Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 – results and post-fight report
Conor Benn restored family pride at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by dominating his rematch with Chris Eubank Jr in north London, ultimately settling for a crushing points victory following two last-round knockouts in the middleweight clash.
Eubank and Benn fought their second fight in a crowded stadium.
After a long family rivalry, Eubank Jr (35-4, KO25) did enough to win their original meeting at the same stadium in April, coming off a thrilling fight with no clear point scorer, but Benn (24-1, KO14) had his moments as they went side by side for almost the entire fight.
It was an open cat and mouse round with Benn landing a nice right hand on the counter that caught the attention, and in the second round he worked the body well as Eubank slowly gained momentum.
The left hand finally found its way to Eubank in the third quarter, but he looked tired and allowed Benn to keep punching him, which was a still start for the Brighton man.
Eubank’s legs felt like they were stuck in the mud, and although he had some minor success in the fifth race, he was unable to string his shots into a rhythm that would disturb Benn.
Eubank certainly needed a robust second half, but there was more of it in the seventh round and Benn was able to avoid what his opponent was offering and responded with interest.
Eubank simply wasn’t in the fight, couldn’t do what his head told his fists and legs to do, and Benn continued to take the rounds, and going into the championship rounds he was clearly in need of a knockout that never seemed to have a chance.
The pattern remained the same and by the final round it was clear what Eubank had to do.
Once again he was unable to find anything of note, although he tried to let go of his hands, but it was to no avail and Benn’s pointed right hand knocked him down badly in the final minute.
Benn pounced on the restart, with Eubank wrapped around his neck again, and grimly reached the final bell.
The score was academic, with scores of 119-107, 118-108 and 116-110 earning Benn a show of hands.
Jack Catterall vs. Ekow Essuman
In a controversial welterweight clash, Jack Catterall (32-2, KO14) defeated Ekow Essuman (22-2, KO8) in the penultimate round of their fight for the WBO Global belt.
Essuman was down in the fourth round, but he got up in the 11th roundvol round to see him down with multiple punches after the referee called a break in the action.
This signaled the beginning of the end for Essuman as a volley of punches rolled through the ropes and the fight was over.
Undercard remaining
Adam Azim (14-0, KO11) defeated slow replacement Kurt Scoby (18-2, KO16) and won the vacant WBO Intercontinental super lightweight title after a last-round stoppage.
Scoby was deducted a point for using his head in round seven and eventually wilted, kneeling on the canvas before the fight was ultimately called off.
Richard Riakporhe (19-1, KO15) showed no signs of continuing his heavyweight campaign, and the former cruiserweight world title challenger broke the record of Tommy Welch (16-1, KO9), who was dropped three times in the second round before being stopped.
Ishmael Davis (15-3, KO6) suffered a minor upset to win the vacant British super welterweight title while also winning the Commonwealth title from Sam Gilley (18-2-1, KO9).
The fight was fierce, which was reflected in the scorecards, which twice showed 115-113 and 115-114 in favor of Davis, making him the novel champion.
Flyweight hopeful Mikie Tallon (11-0, KO2) scored a infrequent early victory, with an uppercut doing the damage in a fifth-round knockout victory over Fezan Shahid (4-3-2, KO0).

Jaron Ennis is the bookmakers’ main favorite to defeat Xander Zayas in their highly anticipated world title clash on Saturday in Brooklyn.
Ennis challenges Zayas for the WBO and WBA super welterweight belts at the Barclays Center live on DAZN pay-per-view.
The undefeated resident of Philadelphia enters the game as the favorite on February 11 Bet365 give the 23-year-old his first professional defeat and become world champion in two weight categories.

On Wednesday, Lewis Crocker heads to Australia to defend his IBF welterweight world title against Liam Paro for the first time.
Crocker will face Paro at the Pat Rafter Arena in Queensland, live on DAZN in the UK and Kayo Sports in Australia.
Crocker (22-0, 11 KO) became world champion in September, defeating Paddy Donovan twice before winning the rematch by split decision.
Man from Belfast recorded his second victory over Donovan after the first victory in March last year, and his rival was disqualified for hitting him after the bell.
Paro (27-1, 16 KO) is trying to become a world champion in two weight categories, having previously reigned in the super-lightweight division.
The 30-year-old won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico before winning the belt in his first defense against Richardson Hitchins.
The Australian has since won twice, overtaking David Papot in his last appearance in September.
McKean meets Taliva
Heavyweight Demsey McKean will look to continue his rebuild when he faces Liam Talivaa for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title.
McKean (24-2, 16 KO) had his career cut miniature after a last-round loss to Filip Hrgovic, followed by a brutal first-round loss to Moses Itauma.

The 35-year-old southpaw returned to winning ways with back-to-back stoppage victories.
Talivaa (8-2, 4 KO) last won the IBF Oceania-Orient title, defeating Faiga Opelu by first-round stoppage.
