Chris Eubank Jr. said he went “through hell and back” during the camp leading up to Saturday’s defeat to Conor Benn.
After a comprehensive victory in the first meeting in April, Eubank Jr. he lost the pace from the first bell, and Benn tired his opponent even more with his jabs and movements. Benn’s dominance ended with two knockdowns in round 12 when Eubank Jr. was saved by the bell.
After the fight, they embraced despite their mutual dislike, and Eubank Jr. he congratulated his rival. However, he said that personal problems as well as weight cutting caused problems during the camp, and he knew from the first round that he would face a tough fight in the rematch.
“I’ve been through hell and back to get here today. I really thought that no matter what problems I was dealing with, I would be able to go in there and win,” Eubank Jr. he said at the post-fight press conference.
Employ my boxing skills. Employ what you saw in the first fight to defeat Conor Benn. From the first round I realized I was wrong, but that’s okay. I am a warrior. This is what I do.
“I gave it my all. Conor Benn put up a hell of a fight. He had a great performance. He did everything that was asked of him and I congratulate him on his performance.”
When asked if he would consider a trilogy fight, the 36-year-old was undecided on whether he would continue fighting.
“Right now I’m not in the state of mind to think about fighting again. I need to recover.
“I need to deal with what I’m dealing with and then I can start thinking about my path in the sport.”

Promoter Ben Shalom emphasized how much Eubank Jr. he faced difficulties during the camp, but he did not go into details.
“What Chris went through in camp… He won’t want to talk about it, but from what I saw, he did incredibly well to step into the ring tonight,” Shalom said as Eubank Jr. he protested and asked him to stop talking.
“From what I saw, he deserves a lot of credit for getting there tonight. It was an unbelievable performance,” Shalom added.
