Chris Eubank Jr. on track to “full recovery” – Ben Shalom

Chris Eubank Jr. is on track to make a full recovery from health problems that affected him before his November rematch loss to Conor Benn, promoter Ben Shalom said.

After a unanimous decision loss to Benn (24-1, 14 KO), Eubank (35-4, 25 KO) said he went through “hell” during the camp due to undisclosed health problems.

Shalom, who told ESPN in November that Eubank did indeed intend to fight in 2026, said he planned to visit his fighter in the coming days and that the news on his health was positive.

“There was not enough time from April to November, but initially in September to solve the problem, she required appropriate medical attention, which she did not receive,” Shalom said.

“But now he’s starting to understand it… It goes beyond this… He’s alive [boxing] life, and then he will be able to return well and unthreatening.

“But until this situation is completely resolved, he will not return to the ring. However, the procedures and everything he has gone through so far, it looks like he will make a full recovery.”

Shalom said a mid-year return to fighting is still a possibility, likely at the super middleweight limit of 168 pounds.

The two fights against Benn were fought at 160 pounds with a controversial 10-pound hydration clause, meaning neither fighter could weigh more than 170 pounds on fight day.

While Shalom does not believe Eubank’s health problems were caused by weight cutting, he insisted that hydration clauses be removed from the sport, arguing that sometimes athletes should be protected from themselves.

“When you offer players a lot of money to do stupid things, that’s what they do. Unfortunately, that’s the way it is,” Shalom said.

“At this point the regulator has to say it shouldn’t be allowed. It’s unhappy to see that, but ultimately athletes have a choice about their bodies and there’s not much they can do.

“It won’t happen again. But honestly, I wouldn’t want to see it happen again in boxing. I think it’s really unsafe and will lead to something very bad.”

Tony Bellew Reviews Anthony Joshua's Comeback Victory Over Kristian Prenga After Knockdown Drama

Anthony Joshua may have earned a knockout win over Kristian Prenga but the fight certainly didn’t unfold as most people expected.

Joshua was facing the Albanian in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, and it looked like a massive upset could be on the cards when he was dropped twice in the opening round.

‘AJ’ was able to recover and went on to secure a second round knockout victory to prevent the shock lossseemingly paving the way for the battle against Tyson Fury later this year.

One man who was ringside to witness the battle was former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellewand he praised Joshua’s ability to turn things around in the fight after describing it as ‘chaos’.

“We predicted round two but I don’t think we foresaw that. That was chaos. He doesn’t see the uppercut coming and finds himself on the floor without knowing how he got there.

“The second one he did see it coming and he was able to clench down on the jaw. He got up and then the experience that he has he used tonight because he tied him up. Against Andy Ruiz he didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t know how to do that, but tonight he did.

“He showed once again there is no quit. To be that hurt in the first round and get up, that’s the recoveries of power. People talk about your chin, but it’s not, it’s the level of fitness that gets you up from the floor.

“When Joshua gets a fighter hurt he’s the best finisher in the division. Whenever he hurts someone they’re gone. I haven’t seen him drop anybody and they survive, only Andy Ruiz. He’s a ruthless finisher.”

The clash between Joshua and Fury is now expected to be announced soon for later this year, after Fury won his own interim fight on Friday by defeating Mariusz Wach.
