Arman Tsarukyan unimpressed by Mauricio Ruffy’s star-studded training camp: ‘I’m better everywhere’

Arman Tsarukyan doesn't care who Mauricio Ruffy trains with ahead of UFC 331.

This Saturday, Tsarukyan takes on Ruffy in a five-round co-main event for UFC 331 in Los Angeles. The bout is potentially a title eliminator, and as such, Ruffy has pulled out all the stops in his preparation, working with UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski and former champion Israel Adesanya. But Tsarukyan doesn't think that will matter much once the cage door closes.

“You cannot compare Adesanya with me, and you cannot compare Volkanovski with me,†Tsarukyan told reporters during UFC 331 Media Day. “They're completely different fighters. Yeah, he has power, and he has good striking, but I'm better everywhere. So with my wrestling and my striking that I can mix, I can always strike [with] him.â€

That being said, Tsarukyan acknowledges that Ruffy is a dangerous opponent. The former Fighting Nerd enters the fight off back-to-back knockout wins over Rafael Fiziev and Michael Chandler, and has some of the most dangerous striking in the division. But Tsarukyan believes he really only has to be concerned early in the fight.

“He has a really awkward style,†Tsarukyan said. “I've never faced anybody like his striking. So it's gonna be a little bit dangerous first round, but second round should be good.â€

Tsarukyan is currently on a five-fight winning streak and seems to be the obvious next lightweight title challenger should he win on Saturday. However, former champion Ilia Topuria has already begun lobbying for a rematch with Justin Gaethje, claiming Gaethje cheated by loading his gloves. Tsarukyan thinks that's nonsense.

“He's complaining about gloves, but [it's] just [an] excuse,†Tsarukyan said.

Similarly, Tsarukyan has no concerns about Topuria leapfrogging him for the title shot after he wins on Saturday, giving a succinct response when asked if beating Ruffy guarantees him a fight with Gaethje.

UFC 331 takes place this Saturday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, headlined by a flyweight title fight between Joshua Van and Alexandre Pantoja.

Court McGee at peace with UFC farewell: ‘OK is good enough for me’
Court
McGee is proud of his final
Ultimate Fighting Championship appearance.

McGee's final bout came against Eric Nolan
at UFC
332 on Oct. 3 in front of his home fans in Salt Lake City. He
suffered a third-round technical knockout loss after a hard-fought
battle and subsequently laid down his gloves inside the Octagon to
mark the end of his UFC career.

Court McGee reflects on his final UFC fight after 16 years in
the promotion

McGee released a statement addressing his retirement. He is proud
of his final UFC fight despite the loss. After 16 years in the UFC,
McGee said he finally took it all in leading up to his farewell
bout. “The Crusher†also paid tribute to 13 coaches and training
partners he lost along the way.

“Saturday night was my last fight in the UFC,†McGee posted on X.
“16 years. 29 fights, including my time in the Ultimate Fighter
house. One hell of a journey. I didn't get my hand raised, but I'm
incredibly proud of my performance, proud of my opponent, and
genuinely happy for him. For the first time, I was able to slow
down and truly experience it all—the weeks leading up to the fight,
fight week, the walk to the Octagon, and everyone who's been beside
me through the highs and lows. Including the 13 coaches and
training partners we've lost. RIP. I gave this sport everything I
had. Sometimes my best was great. Sometimes it was just okay.
Saturday night, I was okay—and okay is good enough for me. I'm
grateful for the wins, the losses, the lessons, the people, and
every damn moment in between. What a journey. Thank you.â€

McGee (22-15) won Season 11 of “The Ultimate Fighter†in 2010,
earning a UFC contract. He overcame addiction before beginning his
professional mixed martial arts career.
