A fight that persecuted Wyatt Earp
Published
4 days agoon

Everyone who knows American popular culture has heard the name Wyatt Earp and film fans Tombstone He may believe that they know everything about a man. But there is one part of the Earp biography that has disappeared from public awareness, which is his role of a controversial boxing judge. Even people familiar with Earp probably do not know that he was sleeping with professional fights, because he is now best known as a shooter and lawyer of the Senior West, and countless stories have been written, and the films produced the role of Earp in the infamous “Shooting in OK Corral. “But when he died in 1929 at the age of eighty, Earp was perhaps the most remembered not for being a quick draw, but for being a judge who helped to repair a stern heavyweight fight.
The year was in 1896. Then 48, Earp gave up the fight against weapons, although he realized his infamy, writing several articles for Hearst’s publications about his senior Western confessions. He also had a reputation as a kind of little boxing official, having a box as a teenager and fights in America and Mexico, mainly fighting at Railroad or Buffalo Hunting. But out of nowhere, he had the opportunity to supervise a stern battle with high rates between the two best in the game.
Fight Legends Bob Fitzsimmons i Tom Sharkey They were to drop the Mechanics pavilion in San Francisco. It was a considerable romance, without a fight with buffaloes, but the great league, which drew the main attention to it, just like the premiere fights today. Former Master James “Gentleman Jim” Corbett recently retired (although he would return soon) and a fresh best bulky weight was needed to fill the void. Boxing was illegal in San Francisco, but it didn’t matter. About ten thousand fans filled the arena of all who paid a high ticket price in the amount of ten bucks to see this historic scrap live and personally. And the man responsible for the action was to be Wyatt Earp.

The National Sports Club, the strength of the event, asked Earp for judges, and Wyatt apparently refused initially. The fight was promoted as championships in the heavyweight of the world (controversial proclamation, because the box was politicized at the time, as it is today), and the former lawyer was afraid that he might not be challenged because of his restricted experience. But such a shiny offer was challenging to refuse, so Earp entered the ring on December 2, 1896 to referee loudly. But not everyone was satisfied with it.
Controversy broke out before the opening bell with more than one individual warning Fitzsimmons and his camp, which Earp agreed to quit Sharkey. This prompted the “Ruby” manager, Martin Julian, to enter the ring before the start of the competition and citing the whole reputation, demand that someone replace Earp as a judge. At this point, Wyatt offered to withdraw, but Sharkey’s band insisted that he be a man to work and not withdraw.
But this was not the only significant development before the fight. Police captain George Whitman did not mind the illegal fight in San Francisco, but he he did Watch out for the fact that Earp entered the ring with a bully of the revolver from the inside of his coat. Wyatt calmly passed his weapon before starting the match.

Apparently, the struggle itself, as many expected, with a clever strategy and thunderous strength of Fitzsimmons, also known as “The Fighting Blacksmith”, and better than the aggressiveness of Sharkey and brutal strength. A clever tactic and a destructive blow that knocked out the valued Peter Maher in one round this year, “Ruby” took Sharkey to school. But in the eighth round he made a shot from the body that Sharkey sent to the floor. There, “Sailor Tom” was blowing and held his groin. Sharkey’s band immediately argued that their warrior was a victim of a low blow, while Fitzsimmons found the whole affair comical. That is, until Earp announced that Sharkey is a winner, through disqualification.

The statement that the crowd has faded seems to be an understatement. But thousands of mechanics pavilions tonight were shocked not only by a fight, but also by the judge’s decision, Wyatt Earp. Needless to say, it was not an incident that could be easily forgotten. The media was over it, and Earp was blurred as a correction that assured Sharkey won. AND Novel York Herald The artist even pulled out the resemblance of Earp, which was beyond the Dużchlebka, with a cartoon cowboy wearing excessively sombrero, indicating the pistol in Fitzsimmons, serving Sharkey’s cash bag. Certainly not a movie from a Hollywood film.
No one can rightly say whether Earp repaired the fight, made the right phone, or was simply an unconscious participant in a world -class fraud. The fact that Sharkey would not be observable by the doctor only the day after the fight makes everything more suspicious. Despite this, it was not necessary to pay off Earp to utilize its services. Again, the man certainly did not have qualifications to cancel the fight at such a high level. What’s more, there is an uncomfortable fact that Earp offered his duties to someone else before starting the fight.

For his part, Earp defended his actions as completely legal. “I felt that I did what was right … and feeling that I didn’t care about the opinion of anyone,” he said Examiner. “I saw Foul hit as clearly as I see you and that’s all that is in it.”
Unfortunately, for Earp, the controversy and smudges lasted until his death. The decades took me a cluttered evening to leave public awareness and a picture of a high western character, which we know today, a breeze of a scandal ring. – Let Crose

I got stuck in time – resembling Marquez vs Pacquiao IV
Published

February 16, 2025
Yesterday the boxing world meant the anniversary of one of the most crucial battles of the 21st century, the fourth and last clash of two great masters, Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez IV. What a fight and what a knockout, no doubt one of the greatest KOs of all time. And perhaps no memory of this unforgettable night is as suitable or frigid to read, like the one, when the author and his crazy, liquidated Amigos watched, as the invigorating battle falls in the belt belt by Rio Grande. Check this:
“The difficult right hand of Marquez and for the first time in four fights Manna Pacquiao was knocked down!”
“Are you kidding?!” So I shouted on a huge screen about twenty feet from me, like about a hundred other guys, everyone was organized for testosterone and beer and unknowingly underwear festival, high heels and glitter metal poles around us. She hardly paid them attention.
It was the third round of Pacquiao vs Marquez IV, and the Mexican champion has just dropped the Filipino machine to fight dynamically with his right hand. It was the first stunning Marquez shot in thirty -nine rounds of fighting against Pacquiao, and everyone with the cock between the legs was on their feet and losing their minds. For a reason; This impact raised the stake at a completely fresh height in the Pacquia-Marquez competition, while setting the table to the feast of an action that was still to come.
“ChiquitaPull your face your tits! “He roared a few tables away, probably for the first time and only once in his life. “Ten seconds left!” He said when he stared at the screen, the blonde breaks away, chasing her lips like an eight -year -old who had just realized that he would not get cotton candy at the fair.
Jose Luis was crazy next to me. “I told you, think! “He shouted:” I he said You still had it! “Jose Luis had this annoying tendency to name everyone think When he was excited and in this case, the repeat of Marquez’s right hand slowly made him come out of his mind. On the Pacquiao screen he fell, his eyes were half closed, and after the landing of his body slowly resounded and caught, as if his body was to dissolve in the fifth dimension.

“Yes, he has something“I remember saying. “Look at these fucking biceps,” and I looked with admiration at my shoulder muscles on the screen. You have the impression that the camera has approached enough, at a plain angle, you would not know if you look at the bloody hand of the prize or the pulsating boner. “Everything is natural, no doubt,” I murmured.
Although Jose Luis and I came to this pond, you are never watching yourself Juan Manuel Marquez Fight in the Titty Bar with a view of Rio Grande. Most patrons tonight supported the Mexican legend, except for a handful of Filipino -looking, probably students from the local university, sitting in a distant corner, too shy to meet with a boisterous Latin contingent. I couldn’t blame them. We got wild.

There is nothing like sport, that the strangers join one will. Most of us were Mexican, yes, but at the beginning of the night we were alien, not more likely that we would buy drinks than two random people who fall on each other in the subway in Recent York. But because Pacquiao vs Marquez IV turned into a hell of fighting, and because our countryman won, well, let’s say that there were more than enough material to get around.
After this knocking, everyone was ready to free themselves. I saw guys who did not know each other, accepting and buzzing beers and organize competitions with Chugus, while others grabbed the girls and paid for the neighbor’s dances. I saw one guy gets up, pushed his pelvis forward, grabbing his packet and holler “Chupame, you go! “As a guy from another table, he laughed and pointed to the Filipinos, then mock the first guy.
But all this madness really calmed down a few minutes later in the fifth round. Then, in a worthy tribute to Nigel Tufnel, Filipino showed that he could still “go to eleven”. “Chino Babron It’s coming! “Jose Luis shouted, explaining that dealing with my friend on nationality was at best blurred, and that not only I sensed the tide. And that was before Manny sent Marquez to canvas. If at the end of the round you were not sure if Pacquiao was in the beast mode, just look at the macabre, crimson mess that left, where the nose of Marquez was. For “Dinamita” things did not look good.
I admit that at the end of this infamous fifth round I was afraid of Marquez. The coolness flowed down my spine every time Manny fired this cannon of my left hand, and the same chill turned back and ran when I saw that Marquez could withstand Pacquiao’s arrows, opposing his own. The guy was chopped speedy and yet refused to recognize.
It may, but it doesn’t have to, but at that time it certainly seemed to be the preferred to die on his feet than let Pacquiao knock him out and looking back, I’m still sure he felt like that. In the end, everyone who speaks three rematch from Filipinos is used as “Dinamita” was in this fifth round, only to return to their corner of peace as a Hindu cow, must have quite solid beliefs. But if he were serene, gathered and continued to focus on the task, some of his fans were close to panic at the beginning of the sixth round.
“They take it! Penniless Marquez! ” Jose Luis shouted when the bell rang, which is Spanish because “the state of Marquez is uncertain.” I had to agree with him, and after undermining all the concerned words of the face around us, I knew that we all feel like that. The way of thinking of Marquez could be as robust as always when the sixth began, but any of us was challenging to see how it would lend a hand him withstand Pacman’s attack. Of course, ultimately we had to wait only two minutes and fifty -nine seconds, so that Marquez proves that everyone was wrong.
In fact, there was a way to stop Pacquiao, and Marquez came up with it. Later, everyone called it a “perfect blow”, some attach the word “happiness” to it, but the last part is as far from the truth as possible. In fact, the performance of Marquez’s right hand was a careful preparation and absolute performance, a logical solution to the annoying puzzle, like E-Ealals-Mc-Squared for Einstein. For thirty -six rounds and four training camps, Marquez had the opportunity to study his enemy, learn the term of ticks and tcków Pacquiao, and one imagines that Marquez runs around the volcanoes near the training camp, which surround his natives of Mexico, muttering in a circle He is no longer an athlete performing road works, but an entangled mystic reciting the mantra: “He is, he stabs the right one; I go outside, boom! With my right! “
And so he did it by sending every last Mexico in this digital bar at Rio Grande. It was unbelievable. Jose Luis’s chair became a catapult, throwing him on his feet; He looked at me with crazy eyes, as if lost in terrible ecstasy, from which he was not sure if he wanted to be saved, because people around us began to sing, He doesn’t get up, Jim! He doesn’t get up, Jim! I felt bad because of scared, naked girls rushing like chickens, trying to remain balanced on pure heels, when the guys jumped, sewed, screamed and faded beers. Jose Luis just stared at me, his eyes and lips openly open, and we joined with Pandemonium around us after I poured what was left of my beer on his head and screamed in his face.

It seems to me that it will not hurt to try this trick now. Over ten years have passed since this unforgettable night, but some cannot allow me, it cannot shake the feeling that although it was the highest point of the “Dinamita” vs “Pacman”, something was left, something was unfinished. But in a sense, Marquez did not move from him either. He inexplicably refused to earn and gave Manny a fifth fight, even when Bob Arum offered it in Mexico. And then he lost to Timothy Bradley.
And since then, Pacquiao is even close to being a ruthless, deadly berserker of a man on a mission that that night, hammering Marquez with these malicious left hands? Undoubtedly, he deserves the main props for a soldier and defeating Bradley, Rios, Broner and Thurman, but nothing can overshadow the huge egg he made when he finally got Floyd Mayweather in the ring. It is difficult to shake that something crucial in Pacman remained this crazy night ten years ago.
But it is also challenging not to shake the belief that he would regain him if he and Marquez were closed for the last time. We will never find out why my Mexican brother refused to face again. Perhaps, as he said, it was pride and heritage and departure on his terms. But on the other hand, maybe it was related to how he felt within a few minutes before he landed in the last huge right hand, when he fought for breathing through the nose puree and knew that there was maybe another rinsing of his left hand from failure. Who can say for sure?
Anyway, it doesn’t matter now. Even when you get stuck in time, the world is still spinning and goes on, and ultimately the aged one must make room for a fresh one. But regardless of everything, both Marquez and Pacquiao can be sure that their epic battles are forever written in memories with enthusiasts of fighting fans, people who lived to see, “Dinamita” and “The Pacman” Rumble. People like Jose Luis and me and the rest of this crazy crowd in a club with striptese by Rio Grande. – –Carlos Ramirez H.

Hemingway, Fitzgerald and round, which lasted too long

“My writing is nothing. My boxing is everything. ” He said that the only Ernest Hemingway, one of the most captivating and respected writers of the 20th century.
The best -selling literary titanium. Fame. Challenging drinker. Womanizer. Gigantic Game Hunter. Bull fight lificionado. Hemingway was a man who wore many hats other than a man writer. And, for sure boxer He was one of the roles he perfected with true zeal. Although he was by no means a professional warrior (more about it later), Hemingway was certainly an avid fan who liked to lap gloves and climb the ring.
How was hemingway in boxing? Well, as a child, he posed for a photo as John L Sullivan, reflecting his early passion for sweet science. Indeed, some of Hemingway’s most respected stories focus on boxing and boxers: “The Killers”, “Fifty Grand” and “The Battler” quickly comes to mind. Each of these works, to varying degrees, is steeped in a fighting game. In addition, the classic Hemingway novel, The sun is also risingIt literally starts with the description of the boxing background of Robert Cohn, one of the main characters of the book. Do not make a mistake, Papa when Hemingway was tenderly called, he was obsessed with boxing. Obsession does not necessarily mean skills.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLtxg6cia7g
While Hemingway was nothing, if not brave – documented acts of courage on the battlefield confirm the same – he was not exactly Gene Tunney when he slipped through the ropes. Hemingway’s skills as a warrior could be suitable for bar fighting, but street fights are far from scientific boxing. Although sturdy and aggressive, he tends to a clumsy and consistently leaving himself an open goal in the ring. However, to grant a loan where it is due, he insisted with boxing despite his limitations. As in the case of writing fiction, the heart and determination go so far. Ultimately, he either has goods or not.
Enter one F. Scott Fitzgerald. Yes, This F. Scott Fitzgerald, z Great Gatsby fame. Scott, as he was known for his intimate colleagues, lived in Paris at the same time as Hemingway, and they both developed one of the most special friendships in literary history. Take into account that Fitzgerald was the best -selling author when he first met Hemingway, while Ernest, Four years, Junior Fitzgerald, fought. Still, it was Fitzgerald which worshiped Hemingway. You see that Hemingway was far from most degenerated emigrants populated at that time in Paris.
The opening of male, rinsing and sociable, a veteran of juvenile world war – Hemingway was seriously injured in battle, while serving as an ambulance driver in Italy – he commanded every room he entered.
Hemingway can not only overtake even the wildest members of the so -called “Lost Generation” friend, but also got involved in activities such as hunting and boxing, which threatened his peers and made them look supple in comparison. Like countless other, Fitzgerald developed the case of the worship of the heroes. However, unlike most people who want to join the developing iconic Hemingway fans, Fitzgerald was at least equal to man as a writer.
While Hemingway was indeed on the abyss of emerging as a literary bulky weight, Fitzgerald has already found enviable success and recognition. And considering that Hemingway’s hypermascosis has always been established in fragility, a threat to its supremacy, in every respect, may prove to be problematic. Therefore, the juvenile author tried to say, disregarding and challenging Fitzgerald. Despite this, Scott, like many others, largely accepted him. But such “chemistry” can lead to combustion, and feelings supposedly lit one particularly heated afternoon in 1929.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nscqylq68gg
At that time, Hemingway began to outweigh Fitzgerald as an artist. His first published novel not only The sun is also risingshake the world of letters, his next book, Farewell to the arms(and is still) considered a masterpiece of war fiction. Reminder: Hemingway was not too boxer. However, apart from the restrictions, he had some justified experience in the ring because of the sparring with the Canadian writer Morley Callaghan, who was a really qualified warrior several times.
However, that day in 1929, Fitzgerald was supposedly acting as a magazine and apparently allowed the second round with Callaghan per minute too long. Sufficient enough, radiant, but in these additional sixty seconds Callaghan put Ernest on canvas. For a man as competitive as Hemingway, the perceived length of the round was enough to justify indignation and suspicion. Fitzgerald’s blame loudly for wanting to see him, like Callaghan, Hemingway, as he was known, escalated the situation.

Of course, if you can trust this apocryphal story about literary violence. It is said that Hemingway later claimed that Fitzgerald allowed the prolongation of the round Ten minutes – completely absurd charge. Callaghan’s testimony about the incident in his autobiography, written after the death of Fitzgerald, would raise history to the kingdom of literary legend. Interestingly, it is said that Fitzgerald has never published a word about a fight. Perhaps he was ashamed, but it is more likely that the incident was soon forgotten, only to visit memories and details again, and alternative stories rooted in the minds of each participant. And although by nature he was unstable, Hemingway’s correspondence with Fitzgerald after this infamous day remained heated and supporting.
However, if there is morality in this story, boxing can never avoid controversy – even among the most unlikely participants. – – Be cross

Pacquiao vs marquez competition: History of violence

Last month, the boxing was the 13th anniversary of one of the best fights of the 21st century, not to mention one of the most consistent duels of recent times, the fourth and last clash between the legendary champions Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, so let’s let’s come to Rafael Garcia’s reflection on the subject This unforgettable war and its shocking conclusion. At that time, fighting fans predicted the fifth chapter at Saga Pacquiao vs Marquez; Unfortunately, it wasn’t. But maybe it’s just as good. What are the chances of “Dinamita” and “Pacman” can match the fireworks of their last stimulating war? On the other hand, if the next meeting meant another stunning essay from Garcia, we cannot stop the lament on what could be. At this point, one of the best things you’ve ever read on one of the substantial boxing competitions. Check this:
Polymath Nassim Taleb He claims that the system in which variability is suppressed is the perfect chaos catalyst. This setting will behave like a ticking bomb, a key difference that the potential of destruction increases exponentially over time. The more muffled the system, the more its inseparable voltage increases. Such a tension inevitably, sooner or later, will find a way to explode in an unpredictable – and often risky – manager.
The Pacquiao vs Marquez rivalry began with a bang thanks to the violent version of the fist’s posterity offered by the Philippine icon in the first round of their tetralogy, in the round in which Marquez visited the canvas three times. But after this, most of the Fight III missiles can be defined as a competition between Manny’s desire to explode and Márquez’s determination to stop him.

During the three extremely close fights, Pacquiao attacked, while Márquez counted, Southpaw, trying again and again to set fire to the ring, while Juan Manuel quickly poured flames with brain counterfeit. Momentum changed there and back, but the shield never returned to the dead center, leaving those of us who call a pair one of the most evenly matched boxing in history.
For this reason, the reaction of fans and the media, when their fourth meeting was announced, was almost unanimous: a long sigh, and then depressed “why?” They have repeatedly reminded us of both professional and amateur keyboards with aged dictations that madness repeats the same action in a circle, expecting a different result. Is the boxing world crazy? Pacquiao vs Márquez IV did not make sense; We saw it three times and we still got the same result.

But the majority who shared the opinion did not take into account the tension gathering in the competition in thirty -six rounds of ambiguous results. The great Philippine whale failed to fully get involved in his attack, keeping truthful by adroit management of violent instincts Pacquiao. Márquez’s bitterness fermented to what he considered three unfair sentences. Pacquiao is satisfied with himself only when he manages to satisfy people around him. If the rest of us wanted to close, Pacquiao and Márquez needed him above all.
For fans, close rounds and controversial judgments were in the worst case the nuisance, which indicated how well the Filipino and Mexicans were well matched. However, for two athletes putting their lives in danger in the ring, the lack of clarity was a psychological burden of them down. While Márquez felt the lack of respected by the judges “the lack of recognition of his craft, Manny felt more and more the need to convince Mexico to satisfy not only his loved fans and his country, but also his beloved trainer and – but not, but not at least – The beast fighting in itself.
A follow -up event that released the accumulated tension of eight years of competition was a colossal right hand thrown by Juan Manuel Márquez, who set up Pacquiao in the third round. Manny found his power during the first two rounds – it is enough to win these episodes – as well as a fraction of the third. But all the time Márquez studied his opponent. He used a delicate stab to draw the Filipino’s attention, focusing again from the right, which this time Márquez did not throw it straight into the pipe, just like his custom, but he was on the mountain, he gained a momentum as he traveled in the air, finally affecting the left side of his head Pacquiao and dropping him, cracking in a split aura of invincibility, which surrounded Pacman for so long.
Manny immediately got up and continued the fight, quickly recovering. When he then implemented his game plan, which consisted of constant aggression and uninterrupted movement, Márquez refrained from the involvement of fire with fire. His contractor was not as effective as in previous meetings, multi -purpose combinations in particular absent, but he put his trail. There was still time to get over the great whale in the upcoming rounds.

Pacquiao dominated most of the fifth and sixth rounds. On the fifth he gained knocking with a stiff, robust left, and in reality most damage caused to Márquez, including a broken nose, was created by a trusted bullet, which he calls his left hand. The impact landed often and effectively, be it as a lead shot or as a continuation of the right stab or part of the combination. At the end of the fifth round, the face of Mexico was a macabre mess, with blood flowing freely from his nostrils, making it hard for him to breathe, just like at the end of the infamous first round eight years ago.
It was clear that IV became the most consistently violent meeting of two fighters. Márquez was in a war similar to the one in which he found himself against Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, with the difference that Pacquiao blows are several rows of size more painful than Diaz. At the same time, Pacquiao was on the way to another vintage performance, at the same level as his knockout Erik Morales, and recently Miguel Cotto. He successfully pushed the action, thoroughly landing and systematically unfolded the opponent.
While Pacquiao released his frustration from being captured in the style of Márquez in previous fights, Juan Manuel was in trouble, but mentally he was still very fighting. He was hit and hurt, but he knew exactly what was going on, and he knew that although time was against him, there would still be a chance for Pacquiao to pay his greedy aggression. They both promised a knockout in battle; Manny began to look for this when he got up from the canvas in the third round, but Márquez knew that it worked in his favor. Dinamita wouldn’t even have to look for his knockout; Instead, Pacquiao would create circumstances for Márquez to get it.

This moment took place in the dying seconds of the sixth. Excessive Pacquiao carelessly threw himself at Márquez after another three -minute power show. After throwing a stab, which undoubtedly intended to follow the left boma, suddenly found himself outside the position and threw himself on the right fist of Márquez. Punch was miniature and stiff, but perfectly saved and placed, causing the Filipino to fall like a board on the floor, all the lights in his head turned off. After this shot, ten poviat would be a perverse exercise in Sarcasm.
And in this way Márquez won the most significant and sweetest victory of his career, sending people in his hometown of Mexico from homes and to the streets to celebrate in Angel de la Independencia, practice usually reserved for significant wins by the National Soccer Team Team. Márquez has crossed sport in Mexico, and his last achievement will undoubtedly begin the debate about whether he should be careful more than Mexican great past, such as Salvador Sánchez, and even Julio César Chávez. But it is clear that Juan Manuel Márquez would be more than content, being able to close this chapter of his career, perhaps the whole book of his career, with this victory. How can he collect, in such a clear and decisive way, the skin of the enemy’s skin he sought and obsessively for so many years?
The Pacquiao camp quickly expressed the Filipino’s desire to fight, at least several times before he went for good. After all, such a result is not necessarily the result of the aging process or reduced quality of the fight, but it can be traced to Pacquiao’s desire to be careful again. He behaved more aggressively than from the first three minutes of competition, with short-lived success, until he succumbed to the temptation of the latter, reckless allegation.

Variability and its management played a huge role in shaping the Pacquiao vs Márquez competition, and – mostly – played a role in the end of the fourth competition. The level of Manny’s activity and the intensity of his attack restored memories of the demolition of the machine, which knocked down larger enemies and dismantled everything that stood on his way. Unfortunately, for him and his Legions of fans, such chaos reaction aroused in Dinamit was even, and the sense of time Márquez and Petalness in the ring were the basic ingredients of what is certainly a knockout of the year. On Saturday evening, when the power called Manny Pacquiao lasted with a stationary object called Juan Manuel Márquez, a Mexican.
Would the result be the same if the fifth fight materialized?
Is it crazy to want to find out?
-Fael Garcia
