Kevin Holland out of UFC Oklahoma City fight against Jacobe Smith

The upcoming UFC Oklahoma City card has taken a hit with just over a week left to go until showtime.

Veteran welterweight contender Kevin Holland has been knocked out of his scheduled fight against undefeated prospect Jacobe Smith, which was slated to take part on the main card for the Oklahoma City card on July 18.

Multiple people with knowledge of the situation confirmed Holland was out of his fight following an initial report from Kevin K on social media.

Details surrounding Holland's withdrawal have not been revealed but he's dealing with some sort of injury that left him unable to compete on the UFC Oklahoma City card next week.

It's also unfortunate news for Smith, who was returning to his old stomping grounds after he was a standout wrestler at Oklahoma State before turning his full attention towards MMA. There's no word yet if Smith is going to remain on the card against a new opponent or not.

As for Holland, he'll have to wait until a later date to compete again after he scored a unanimous decision win over Randy Brown in his most recent fight in the UFC.

The UFC Oklahoma City card is headlined by a middleweight showdown between former champion Dricus du Plessis and Kamaru Usman, who is returning to 185 pounds for the main event clash next Saturday.

Israel Adesanya announces departure from City Kickboxing

Israel Adesanya announces departure from City Kickboxing
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight
king Israel
Adesanya is going in a new direction.

Posting a video on his personal YouTube channel on Thursday titled
“I'm Leaving
CKB,†Adesanya explained that he was doing just that: departing
the confines of Auckland, New Zealand-based camp City Kickboxing.
The 36-year-old ex-kickboxer has fallen on hard times as of late,
dropping four straight, although two of his last four outings were
for his old middleweight title.

The split came effective May 20, per “The Last Stylebender,†who
does so a little under two months after losing to Joe Pyfer by
knockout in the UFC Seattle headliner. Per the fighter, he needed a
fresh start, and most importantly, personalized training instead of
being in a room full of top-ranked athletes who all vie for
attention from the coaches. Adesanya claimed it had been brewing
for a while, and that he still mourns the absence of the team as a
main part of his life.

I am not coming back to City Kickboxing

Adesanya stated, “So [Wednesday, May 20], I spoke to [head coach]
Eugene [Bareman] face-to-face, and I told him I am not coming back
to CKB,†Adesanya opened with in his video. “This was something a
long time coming behind the scenes, and we have an understanding. I
won't lie; it sucks.â€

He continued, “Grief comes in waves for me. For most people, I've
grieved before, so this, it comes in waves. I've had great days,
but also there's days where I'm like [exasperated sigh]. And it's a
long time coming, I just want to get it out [of] the way because I
want you to hear from the horse's mouth because no one else has
spoken about it. I guess those who know are waiting for the ball to
drop, so [motions a ball dropping] I dropped the ball.â€

The former champion was simultaneously gracious for those that
helped him grow over the years and crestfallen that it was the end
of an era.

“It's bittersweet,†he admitted, “but it's the right thing for me.
Especially where I am at in my career, it's exactly what I needed.
Insanity is doing the same s–t and expecting different results,
so…I think that's it, I just don't want to talk about it. It's
something like I said that sucks, I want to grieve in peace.â€

Having a bit more to get out after all, the Nigerian-born athlete
carried on, saying, “[If] people want to bring it up, that's cool,
don't ask me about it…2009 is when I first went to CKB, 2010 is
when I moved over, and I established myself in Auckland to train at
CKB. CKB made me into the fighter that I am today. They've trained
a lot of great fighters. Greats, even better than myself, but me as
an individual, CKB made me into the fighter that I am today. But
also, I was one of the main pillars who put CKB on the map on the
world stage. To take it to the next level, where people from all
over the world want to come train at CKB, and I'm proud of
that.â€

The former Glory kickboxing title challenger thanked a number of
people who helped him over the years, not limited to coach Bareman
and fellow fighters Cameron
Rowston, Brogan
Anderson and kickboxer Doug Viney.
Above all, he knows exactly what he needs in his next camp, and
that is the personal attention of a coach who can help straighten
out any issues that come up as they happen.

“What I need for myself is [holds hands pensively] focused,
individual training. So, I've made the decision to leave CKB for my
own reasons, and yeah. I'll leave it at that,†Adesanya
concluded.

Bella Mir: DWCS spot ‘most likely’ set for this summer

It looks like Bella Mir is going to have a very busy next few months.

Mir, the daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and one of the brightest prospects in combat sports, is undefeated in MMA, but has also been competing at a very high level in the wrestling world, as well as making moves for UFC BJJ.

With the upcoming season of Dana White's Contender Series on the horizon, rumors have been circulating in the MMA space that Mir is going to compete this summer. On the red carpet prior to Wednesday's 17th Annual World MMA Awards, Mir was asked if discussions are going on, and if she'll be a part of it.

“Yes, yes there is,†Mir told MMA Fighting. “I'm just excited to get it going. Hopefully I can get something [announced] soon, but there's discussions going on.

“Most likely [I'll be competing]. Yeah.â€

With Mir doing so well in wrestling including a chance to make the U.S. team for World Championships with a finals match scheduled against Olympic silver medalist Kennedy Blaydes in the near future, there are different combat paths the 23-year-old can take. But if she were to earn a UFC contract from White and the UFC matchmakers this summer, Mir says it will all go according to plan.

“This was always the plan,†Mir said. “I think my plan is just always taking every opportunity thrown at me [whether] it happens to be MMA or wrestling or whatever it is.

“This actually is like perfectly timed for me because I made the U23 World Team for wrestling and that's for the end of October, so I'll have just [enough] amount of time to train after and get ready for that. And obviously also train for Final X because Kennedy [Blaydes] pulled out for injury. So I also have that going on and then hopefully UFC BJJ title fight coming too. So, yeah, I'm always busy.â€

It's been about a year since Mir locked up a first-round submission victory for Fury FC in her most recent mixed martial arts bout.

While she remains busy, Mir seems like a perfect fit to make her return to an upcoming RAF card, and was asked if there are talks about that happening some time in 2026.

“I think, hopefully — can't say yet — but hopefully I can be on one of their cards soon,†Mir said. “I hope I can make that official coming up.â€

UFC 329 press conference video

Conor McGregor and Max Holloway are set to share the stage in Las Vegas ahead of their rematch on Thursday at the UFC 329 press conference in Las Vegas, which begins at 10 p.m. ET.

McGregor is set to return to action for the first time in five years to face Holloway in a matchup 13 years in the making. In their first meeting, “The Notorious†defeated Holloway via decision at UFC Fight Night 26 in August 2013. A lot has changed since their first meeting — which took place at featherweight — as both move up to the welterweight division to write their second chapter. So far, things have been quite respectful between the two fighters in the build.

In his most recent bout, McGregor suffered a brutal leg injury in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. The former two-division champ seeks his first win in over six years. Holloway looks to bounce back from his BMF title loss to Charles Oliveira in March at UFC 326.

The UFC 329 co-main event fighters are also set to join Holloway and McGregor

Paddy Pimblett returns following his interim title fight loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 in January to face surging contender Benoit Saint Denis.

The press conference begins at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT and you can watch in the video above.
