Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao ‘agree amended deal’ for rematch on new date

The confusion surrounding the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao rematch appears to have finally been cleared up.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Mayweather and Pacquiao were set to fight againmore than ten years since their first meeting, which the American won by unanimous decision.

In recent weeks, however, the fight has been in doubt, and Mayweather stated that it would be an exhibition fight, not a professional one, which is contrary to the original announcements.

After a long period of uncertainty, it looks like the fight has finally been saved – Mike Coppinger reported This will be a fully sanctioned competition with a up-to-date date and venue.

“Breaking: Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to terms on a revised deal for a professional fight on Netflix scheduled for September 25 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur tells @ringmagazine.

“This means another Friday fight on Netflix once finalized. Netflix has already hosted Friday fights several times. The fight was originally announced for September 19 at The Sphere.

“Mathur: ‘We never wanted this in The Sphere. It didn’t make economic sense to have this event in The Sphere. Ultimately, the parties connecting the fight insisted. Floyd managed to get it out of The Sphere. Bottom line, we make more money.'”

That means it looks like two of the biggest names in boxing history will now meet for a second time, with Pacquiao looking to exact revenge after his May 2015 defeat.

Mike Coppinger reported Friday that Mayweather and Pacquiao have now agreed to the terms of an amended contract for a professional fight scheduled for Sept. 25 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with the event to be hosted by Netflix.

The update moves the fight from the previously discussed September 19 date and removes The Sphere from plans due to concerns about the economics of hosting an event there.

“Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to the terms of an amended deal for a professional fight on Netflix scheduled for September 25 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas,” Mike Coppinger said on X

Coppinger also quoted Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur, who reportedly said the move from The Sphere occurred because the facility was not financially viable compared to a classic Las Vegas arena.

This detail added a novel angle to the story after Pugmire’s report on Thursday sparked a major reaction on boxing social media. Coppinger’s follow-up actions appear to have been aimed at further progress in reporting by confirming the changed conditions, novel date and business reasons behind the change of venue.

Mayweather, 49, retired with a 50-0 record after defeating Pacquiao in the highly anticipated 2015 fight, one of the biggest pay-per-view events in boxing history. Pacquiao returned to professional boxing earlier this year after making exhibition appearances and is still discussing another major fight against his longtime rival.

Neither side has officially announced a rematch yet, but reports on Thursday and Friday suggest negotiations are much closer to completion than many initially expected.

Netflix’s involvement also makes the rematch more commercially attractive, giving both fighters a wider streaming platform than a classic pay-per-view system. The rematch is expected to be one of Netflix’s biggest combat sports events this year.

Jose Valenzuela vs. Edwin De Los Santos at Z08

Image: Zuffa Rematch Call: Edwin De Los Santos Gets Jose Valenzuela Again

Zuffa Boxing returns to the fight that ended brutally for the first time. Edwin De Los Santos and Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela will fight a lightweight rematch in the main event of Zuffa Boxing 08 on August 15 at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, with the event streaming on Paramount+.

De Los Santos’ first fight with Valenzuela in 2022 lasted just three rounds, but it changed the direction of both fighters’ careers. De Los Santos defeated Valenzuela twice before finishing him in the third round with one of the biggest knockouts of the year. Valenzuela later rebuilt his position with victories that pushed him back to lightweight, while De Los Santos continued to enter the conversation for hazardous fights due to his hard-hitting and high-pressure style.

The rematch will take place at an compelling time for both players. Valenzuela has spent the last few years trying to prove that the first defeat was more due to inexperience and defensive mistakes than to ceiling problems. Meanwhile, De Los Santos returns to the exact opponent he has already stopped, which creates a different kind of pressure. If he wins again, especially by knockout, the first result will seem constant rather than accidental.

It looks like Zuffa is building the card around action fights rather than titles. In the joint film, Omar Trinidad will face former world champion Jerwin Ancajas in a 12-round featherweight fight. Brandun Lee will also return to face Cain Sandoval in a 10-round welterweight fight.

The event will take place in Las Vegas, rather than in a larger arena, which is consistent with the direction Zuffa Boxing has taken in its presentation so far. The company focused heavily on compact cards built around recognizable names and aggressive matchmaking, rather than layering championship belts across the lineup.

The 26-year-old De Los Santos has only fought three times since his knockout victory over Valenzuela in 2022, but his strength remains a real problem at lightweight. In his last appearance on December 13, 2025, he knocked out Eliot Chavez in the first round with the kind of shots that can instantly change a fight. Chavez is nowhere near Valenzuela’s level, but the punching power that De Los Santos showed in this fight makes a rematch hazardous for Rayo before August 15.

Zab Judah only sees one winner in David Benavidez vs Dmitry Bivol: ‘He’s mastered it’

Zab Judah sees only one winner in David Benavidez vs Dmitry Bivol: “He’s mastered it”

Zab Judah shared his initial thoughts on David Benavidez vs. Dmitry Bivol, who could fight for the undisputed lightweight heavyweight title later this year.

Both sides have already held preliminary talks about a potential meeting in which Bivol would become a two-time undisputed champion.

The Russian won all four 175-pound world titles in February 2025, exacting revenge on Artur Beterbiev by majority vote.

He then vacated the WBC belt to undergo back surgery and recover, but is currently preparing for his mandatory title defense against Michael Eifert on May 30.

Meanwhile, Benavidez had already been promoted from “interim” to full WBC champion moving up to cruiserweight and defeating Gilberto Ramirez last Saturday.

A sixth-round stoppage allowed him to win the WBO and WBA 200-pound titles, becoming a three-division world champion, but the 29-year-old now appears to be considering a return to a lighter weight.

Even before his last appearance, Benavidez’s team began considering a fight with the man who easily defeated Canelo Alvarez and Ramirez in 2022.

But despite Bivol’s dominant points victory over his latest victim, Judah said MillCity Boxing that he sees Benavidez holding the 35-year-old back in a similar manner to how he did against Ramirez.

“It’s a good fight – I like it. I’ll say the same: another fight [Benavidez] stopping. I predict the same [as the Ramirez stoppage].

“David Benavidez has his own style of boxing; he is the first fighter we know who plays this style. He has mastered it.

“So there’s no real defense for this style yet. Until people learn this style completely, you won’t know how to defend against it.”

While Judah is an compelling observation, many would argue that Benavidez’s energetic style can at least be tested by Bivol’s excellent footwork. Fans hope to find out soon.
