Manny Pacquiao still confident of a rematch with Floyd Mayweather

Published

on

Manny Pacquiao said he is “100% certain” that his rematch with Floyd Mayweather on September 19 at The Sphere in Las Vegas will happen regardless of what his opponent says.

“We both signed a contract and we both received an advance on our purses, so there’s no way we’re canceling this fight,” Pacquiao told ESPN on Monday. “Even in our first fight, it’s a lot to deal with, but the fight happened.”

Earlier this month, Mayweather told Vegas Sports Today during an event at Caesars Palace that “we don’t know where the fight is. The Sphere is one of the places they’ve talked about. So we don’t know 100% if he’s going to be there. And it’s not actually a fight. It’s an exhibition.”

Pacquiao said he was disappointed to hear Mayweather was pulling out of the fight, but wasn’t necessarily surprised given his interactions with him over the years and the obstacles he had to overcome to get his first fight.

“When I heard Mayweather say it was an exhibition, I immediately called my team and said, ‘What’s going on? What’s wrong with this guy?'” Pacquiao told ESPN. “What we signed was a real fight, not an exhibition. I don’t know where he got the idea or where he got his head in his head, but a fight is a real fight and it definitely won’t be an exhibition.”

Manny Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur told ESPN that Mayweather breached the contract with his comments and that discussions are ongoing. On Monday, Mathur said both sides were “making progress” toward resolving the matter and continuing the fight as planned.

“We are 100% confident that the overall outcome of this situation will be positive,” Mathur told ESPN. “We are gaining progress and traction. Floyd has to live up to his responsibilities and I think he wants this fight to happen too.”

Meanwhile, Pacquiao continues to make moves in the boxing world as he waits for his September date with Mayweather to come to fruition.

The boxing legend just signed a nine-figure contract with Team Boxing League and will become the owner of the San Diego TJ team for the 2027 season. Pacquiao will have capital as he aims to push Team Boxing League to a global platform in the fourth season. Through his agreement, he will contribute to increasing global brand awareness, adding to a growing portfolio of assets.

“Building an empire is very vital to me and very meaningful because we can aid many juvenile fighters realize their dream of becoming world champions,” Pacquiao said. “I will be busy as a promoter and advise the next generation of boxers.”

Pacquiao, 47, has been unwavering in his investment in boxing and beyond, from film and finance to technology and nutritional supplements, as well as taking over Mayweather’s senior gym in Hollywood and renaming it Pacquiao Prime Boxing. But nothing excites him more than the thought of revenge for his 2015 loss to Mayweather.

“I never thought that at this age I would still be able to make history in and out of the ring,” Pacquiao said. “I will be fighting Floyd Mayweather at The Sphere on Netflix, where even more people will be able to see our fight than last time. I’m more excited about the rematch than the first fight.”

Zab Judah's Final Prediction on Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez: The Impact of KOing Sparring Partners

Zab Judah has made a bold prediction ahead of tonight’s world title battle between Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez.

Romero defends his WBA welterweight title against Lopez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this evening, competing for the first time since his unanimous decision victory over Ryan Garcia in May 2025.

Lopez is attempting to become a three-division world champion after previously holding world honours at lightweight and super-lightweight, but his reign at 140lbs came to an end in January when he lost his WBO crown to Shakur Stevenson.

One man who knows what it is like to be world champion at both 140lbs and 147lbs is Judah, who notably became undisputed at welterweight back in 2005.

Speaking to MillCity BoxingJudah revealed that he is backing Romero to claim the upset victory tonight and successfully defend his belt against Lopez.

“In the past when we’ve seen Rolly in preparation for a fight, he was always on the internet saying crazy s**t, doing crazy things, this time we don’t see any of that. He’s locked in, he’s training, and I predict that Rolly Romero is going to beat Teofimo Lopez.

“From what I’ve been hearing about him in training, he’s been doing good and knocking people out.”

The winner of tonight’s bout has already been linked to a unification fight against the victor of the upcoming WBC welterweight title fight between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn, while there are also possible match-ups with WBO champion Devin Haney or IBF champion Liam Paro.

Antonio Tarver Predicts Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez Winner: He Has the Attributes to Beat Him

Antonio Tarver Predicts Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez Winner: "He Has the Attributes to Beat Him"

Former undisputed champion Antonio Tarver has considered the keys to victory, while also offering a prediction, for both Teofimo Lopez and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

The pair will collide at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena in the early hours of tomorrow morning, with Romero making a first defence of his WBA world title.

He was upgraded to full welterweight champion last year, having claimed the ‘regular’ belt by dropping and unanimously outpointing Ryan Garcia in May 2025.

After that, Rolly had been in talks with Devin Haney and Conor Benn, only to incur over a year of inactivity and agree to face Lopez instead.

Entering their showdown as a slight favourite, ‘The Takeover’ has moved up to 147lbs and is bidding to become a three-weight world champion.

Unlike Romero, though, Lopez is coming off a surprisingly one-sided points defeat to Shakur Stevensonwho dethroned him for the WBO super-lightweight title in January.

It is therefore difficult to predict which version of the 29-year-old will turn up, yet Hall of Famer Tarver has nonetheless told Fight Hub TV that he is backing Lopez.

“[it will be] high volume if Teo looks to win this thing impressively. He’s going to have to let his hands go, and Rolly’s going to have to try and catch him in the mix of all that.

“I don’t think Rolly can outbox Teo round after round; I think Rolly has to do something big – hurt him with something, knock him down and maybe even stop him.

“Smart money [is on Lopez]. It’s difficult to have your way with [Romero]; you have to be somewhat of a real, elite fighter. We still believe Teo, at his best, has those types of attributes.”

Many would agree that a points decision is Lopez’ clearest route to victory, while Romero may need to make use of his power and engineer an inside-the-distance finish.
