Published
5 months agoon
Mario Barrios will put the WBC welterweight world title on the line on Sunday in the early morning hours in a fight against Ryan Garcia.
Garcia (24-2, 20 KO) seeks his second consecutive world title, defeating Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KO) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, live on DAZN.
“El Azteca” has defended his belt twice since winning it, but has yet to record a victory as a full world champion, with both fights ending in draws.
Barrios became the WBC interim champion in 2023, defeating Yordenis Ugas over 12 rounds.
He rose to the full title before fighting Abel Ramos in November 2024, which ended in a draw.
In his last appearance, “El Azteca” once again drew, this time with eight-time world heavyweight champion Manny Pacquiao.
Now he will face “King Ry”, who immediately has a second chance to win the world title in a row.
Garcia played poorly in his match against Rolando Romero in Novel York. After falling in the second round, he could not recover he lost by unanimous decision.
It was Garcia’s first fight since his no-fight against Devin Haney, whom he defeated the night before the result was ultimately overturned after Garcia failed a drug test.
Richardson Hitchins vs. Oscar Duarte
In his second world title fight, Richardson Hitchins puts his IBF super lightweight world title on the line against Oscar Duarte.
Hitchins (20-0, 8 KO) made his final appearance on the world stage, defeating former unified lightweight world champion George Kambosos Jr. in the eighth round.
“Africa” has notable wins over Liam Paro, Gustavo Lemos and Jose Zepeda.

Now he is defending against Duarte (30-2-1, 23 KO), who previously shared the ring with Garcia.
Garcia stopped Duarte in the eighth round of their 2023 fight in Houston.
The Mexican will enter the fight after four victories in a row and has recorded two stoppages during that time.
He most recently secured a majority vote victory over Kenneth Sims Jr last August.
Russell comes face to face with Hiraoka
Gary Antuanne Russell continues to rebuild his squad after a split decision loss to Alberto Puello in 2024.
Russell (18-1, 17 KO) last fought 11 months ago and secured a unanimous decision victory over Jose Valenzuela, with two judges scoring it 119-109.
He will face undefeated Andy Hiraoka on the undercard.

Hiraoka (24-0, 19 KO) is embarking on an impressive 10-fight winning streak by stoppage, including notable victories over Ismael Barroso, Min Ho Jung and Shun Akaiwa.
Martin meets Albright
Frank Martin (19-1, 13 KO) returns to the ring against Nahir Albright (17-2, 7 KO).
The only defeat in Martin’s career came in a match against Gervonta Davis in 2024, when he was stopped in the eighth round, even though he was only one point behind before the knockout.
Undercard remaining
Bektemir Melikuziev (16-1, 10 KO) should be enough to stop Sena Agbeko (29-4, 23 KO) and achieve a certain victory.
Amari Jones (15-0, 13 KO) can expect his 16th professional victory against Luis Arias (22-6-1, 11 KO).
Joshua Edwards (5-0, 5 KO) has proven to be an thrilling prospect in the heavyweight division since making his professional debut last year.
He will probably stop Brandon Colantonio (7-1, 1 KO) in a six-round fight.
Mohammed Alakel (7-0, 1 KO) will want to extend his undefeated record to 8-0 against Ronny Reyes (5-2, 1 KO).

June 23, 2026
On Wednesday, Lewis Crocker heads to Australia to defend his IBF welterweight world title against Liam Paro for the first time.
Crocker will face Paro at the Pat Rafter Arena in Queensland, live on DAZN in the UK and Kayo Sports in Australia.
Crocker (22-0, 11 KO) became world champion in September, defeating Paddy Donovan twice before winning the rematch by split decision.
Man from Belfast recorded his second victory over Donovan after the first victory in March last year, and his rival was disqualified for hitting him after the bell.
Paro (27-1, 16 KO) is trying to become a world champion in two weight categories, having previously reigned in the super-lightweight division.
The 30-year-old won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico before winning the belt in his first defense against Richardson Hitchins.
The Australian has since won twice, overtaking David Papot in his last appearance in September.

McKean meets Taliva
Heavyweight Demsey McKean will look to continue his rebuild when he faces Liam Talivaa for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title.
McKean (24-2, 16 KO) had his career cut miniature after a last-round loss to Filip Hrgovic, followed by a brutal first-round loss to Moses Itauma.
The 35-year-old southpaw returned to winning ways with back-to-back stoppage victories.
Talivaa (8-2, 4 KO) last won the IBF Oceania-Orient title, defeating Faiga Opelu by first-round stoppage.
Undercard remaining
At cruiserweight, Luke Modini (13-0, 11 KO) will likely need distance to beat Peng Qu (17-2-1, 12 KO), while Riley Candy (8-1, 5 KO) could stop Nathan Watson (11-3, 3 KO) at super middleweight.

Heavyweight Nelson Asofa-Solomon (2-0, 2 KO) can secure a third straight knockout over debutant George Burgess, and Stevan Ivic (8-0-1, 2 KO) can do the same against Caleb Tialu (3-7, 3 KO), also a heavyweight.
Prospective super welterweight fighter Jack Javed (1-0) should overtake Lance McDonald (1-5-1, 1 KO).
