Ben Shalom has revealed that Lauren Price has received “multiple offers” to fight Mikaela Mayer in Cardiff and while a prize has not been agreed, a deal for an undisputed women’s welterweight fight is imminent.
Price (9-0, 2 KO) holds the WBC, WBA and IBF 147-pound titles, and Mayer (22-2, 5 KO) is the WBO champion.
Boxxer and Shalom are determined to bring American Mayer to Cardiff, Wales for the fight, and although no agreement has been reached, Shalom is confident an agreement could soon be reached for one of the biggest fights in women’s boxing.
“We have made multiple offers, but none have been accepted yet, but I think it’s getting close. Both fighters definitely want this fight, so I expect it will happen,” Shalom said.
“I think money has talked again, it probably adds a premium to the fact that we want them in Cardiff.”
After making numerous offers to Mayer and promoter Top Rank, when asked about the sticking point, Shalom replied: “Money.”
Although Mayer has already fought in the UK, Shalom admitted that two tough decisions were made against her in losses to Alycia Baumgardner and Natasha Jonas.
“I can understand why he’s nervous about coming to the Cardiff audience with all the Lauren stuff. [But] foreign fighters have won some great victories on this land. So let’s hope we can continue the fight. But we want it in Cardiff.”
Mayer, the No. 6-ranked pound-for-pound fighter by ESPN, vacated the WBO junior middleweight title she won in October by defeating Mary Spencer. The 31-year-old confirmed that she prefers to fight Price for the undisputed welterweight title.
“Unfortunately, we just found out that the three-belt champion needs an extra fight.” Mayer said in X. “Of course I plan to stay busy in the meantime, so the team is working on what comes next!”
Price, who has not fought since March 2025, is likely to fight in March or April in Cardiff before facing Mayer. Shalom, however, is confident that an undisputed fight will take place, potentially in June.
“I don’t think there’s any other fight out there that would make sense for Mikaela,” Shalom said.
“He has to win the Ring magazine belt and three other belts, it’s a huge fight.
“So overall I think she wants the fight, the promoters want as much money as possible to come to Cardiff and that’s it. But we’ll get it done. This fight will happen.”
