An arrest warrant has been issued for WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident that occurred in October. The warrant was issued on charges of false imprisonment, battery and attempted kidnapping.
Police in Miami Gardens (Florida) held a press conference on Wednesday. MGPD Executive Director Emmanuel Jeanty said he is working with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force to find Davis.
“At this time, the Miami Gardens Police Department is actively working with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force to locate and apprehend Mr. Davis,” Jeanty said. “Domestic violence is a stern crime, and the Miami Gardens Police Department continues to strive to hold perpetrators accountable and protect victims.”
The incident occurred on October 27 at a men’s club in Miami Gardens, where the woman worked. A few days after the incident, his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, filed a lawsuit. According to the lawsuit obtained by ESPN, Davis allegedly entered a men’s club where Rossel worked as a VIP cocktail waiter and attacked her in a back room of the club where there were no cameras.
Davis allegedly grabbed the back of the woman’s head, pulling her with one hand and holding her throat with the other as he forcibly dragged her through the stairwell, kitchen and back entrance before physically attacking her in the parking lot. She was eventually released to her co-workers by Davis and suffered bruises to her left arm.
The police stated that they had reviewed the club’s surveillance footage and that they confirmed the woman’s version.
“The investigation revealed that Mr. Davis used force in an attempt to remove the victim from the scene against his will,” Jeanty said at the MGPD briefing.
Rossel said she has known Davis since 2022 and was intimate with the boxer for about five months. That relationship ended a month before the incident, and she “blocked all forms of communication with Mr. Davis after it ended,” Jeanty added.
“What the police said is exactly consistent with our lawsuit. Whatever investigation they did, they felt it was enough for a judge to sign an arrest warrant,” Jeff Chukwuma, Rossel’s lawyer, told ESPN. “The state’s attorney had to make a decision earlier on exactly what our civil complaint covered.”
The lawsuit was filed two weeks before Davis was scheduled to box against Jake Paul at the Kaseya Center in Miami. However, Davis was pulled from the fight and Paul instead fought Anthony Joshua in December.
Davis’ history of legal troubles is well-documented, including charges related to domestic violence and leaving the scene of a car accident. Several of his cases were dismissed, but he was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest and three years probation for a 2023 hit-and-run case in Baltimore.
It’s unclear whether Davis’ latest alleged mistake violates his probation stemming from the Baltimore case.
