Jake Paul responds that Francis Ngannou refused to fight him
Jake Paul has claimed that Francis Ngannou is afraid of losing to him after the former UFC heavyweight champion turned down the chance to replace Gervonta Davis.
Paul and Davis were scheduled to meet next Friday at the Miami show, streaming live on Netflix.
But their feud and the entire card were thrown out on Monday after allegations surfaced that Davis had attacked his ex-girlfriend in a civil lawsuit.
Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions, has been looking for a replacement for “Tank” since the reports came to lithe, reportedly offering the fight to Ryan Garcia as well as considering a fight with undisputed super middleweight champion Terence Crawford.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou confirmed reports that he had been contacted about replacing Davis, but the 39-year-old insists he has no interest in fighting the “Problem Kid.”
“No, nothing like that is happening,” Ngannou said TMZ Sports.
“Basically, how can they go from Gervonta Davis to Francis Ngannou?
“[But] It doesn’t make sense to me at this point.
“Yes, they contacted me one day and told me they needed a replacement for Gervonta, and when I listened, I didn’t understand it and said, ‘OK, what can I do for you?’
“They said, ‘We’re looking for a successor,’ but I still didn’t understand it.
“OK, what exactly can I do for you?” He said, “We’re thinking about you fighting Jake in place of Gervonta.”
“Which Jake?” I was very confused. I didn’t expect this at all.
“I say, ‘No, brother. Come on. Don’t be so disrespectful to me.'”
Cameroon hasn’t boxed since: defeat in the second round by knockout to Anthony Joshua last March, just over four months after losing a split decision to Tyson Fury in his professional boxing debut.
Paul’s business partner, Nakisa Bidarian, confirmed that the 28-year-old intends to fight before the end of the year.
Paul, who was scheduled to face Davis, the current WBA lightweight champion, in a 200-pound catchweight event, apparently tried to get Ngannou to fight him on social media on Tuesday.

“Dear Francis – just tell me you have already been humiliated in boxing and you are afraid of losing to Jake Paul,” he wrote.
“I accept it. You are an simple job, my friend. I’m stuck in the mud.”
Ngannou replied: “Choose your words wisely, boy. I agree you need someone to discipline you for what you did to Mike Tyson, but stay in your lane.”
Conah Walker returns to the ring next weekend and will face Sam Eggington.
The winner of the Walker vs. Eggington fight may have a chance to win the welterweight world title.
Since the defeat in 2024, “Wolf” has been in excellent form, boasting an impressive series of four victories in the season, the last three of which ended by knockout.
The last defeat in the career of the Wolverhampton fighter came at the hands of the current IBF world champion Lewis Crocker.
He overcame “The Croc” the distance and, in many people’s eyes, was unlucky not to receive recognition on the judges’ scorecards, which showed a unanimous victory for the Irishman.
He returned just two months after this defeat and in Birmingham he faced Lewis Ritson, whom he defeated over the distance.
Walker was the underdog against Harry Scarff in Nottingham and lost most, if not all, of the rounds until the 11th round before landing a series of punches in the penultimate round that forced the referee to stop the fight.
In his last fight, “The Wolf” was once again the clear underdog, beating Olympic silver medalist Pat McCormack in Monaco.
Walker performed well throughout the fight, but fell on two judges’ scorecards before the final round.
The Wolverhampton player took the ball out of the bag and scored a dramatic goal in the last round.
He will face Sam Eggington, a tough opponent also from the West Midlands.
Eggington’s last defeat was to former world champion Abass Baraou, who defeated him by majority vote.
Since then, he has had wins over Alan Velazquez and Lee Cutler.
“The Savage” was injured in his last fight against Cutler and the injury forced the referee to stop the fight early, so he is hopeful that the fight will not be restarted against Walker.

Tyson Fury’s immediate reaction to the fight with Anthony Joshua after signing the contract
The long-awaited return of Anthony Joshua to the ring has been announced and he is to face Albanian Kristian Prenga.
Joshua, by some distance, marks Prenga’s biggest fight to date.
The fight will take place on July 25 live from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Prenga has a perfect knockout record with his 20 wins, stopping every single one of them.
At 35 years senior, he is a solemn test for Joshua fight for a comeback. The Albanian is 180 cm lofty, so he will be a slightly shorter man in the evening.

Prenga turned professional in 2016 against Paweł Siska and stated that he would continue to emulate him many times, stopping his fighter in the second round.
He has an incredible 18 stoppages that occurred before the start of the fifth round.
Prenga last saw action just two months ago when he stopped Joe Jones in the first round of their fight in Atlantic City.
The only defeat in the Albanian’s history came in just his fifth professional competition, when he was beaten by Giovanni Auriemma on the scorecards.

Interestingly, Prenga had no amateur boxing experience and instead started out as a kickboxer.
Prenga was a two-time European kickboxing champion before moving on to the sport of boxing.
The Albanian, who lives in Edgewater, Fresh Jersey, will see July 25 as an opportunity that will define his career. He spoke to Ring magazine and sent a stern warning to “AJ.”
“I know they overlook me.
“I’m joyful about it. I will thwart their plans and shock the world in July in Saudi Arabia.”

When Prenga discusses the derailment of plans, it has to do with the breaking news that Anthony Joshua has signed a fight contract Tyson Fury later a year after their fight in the summer.
Fury and Joshua have been on a collision course in terms of fighting each other for over a decade, and now that the fight has been signed, the boxing fraternity can look forward to one of, if not the biggest fights in the sport.
