Oleksandr Usyk says he plans to fight until he is 41. In the case of the 38-year-old undisputed heavyweight champion Usyk (24-0, 15 KO), this number is not certain yet. Everything could change depending on injuries and how his career progresses.
The Fury trilogy remains on the table
Usyk’s return to the ring was delayed due to a back injury. He claims that he is “negotiating” the fight, but does not reveal who the fighter is. It won’t be Moses Itauma. It would be captivating to see if Usyk chooses someone we least suspect he will utilize as a reinforcement.
A trilogy between Tyson Fury and Usyk would be frosty. Fury of the “Gypsy King” is still bitter about his two defeats, complaining and wanting revenge.
Seeing them fight again would attract a lot of attention as Fury has been shouting 24 hours a day that he got a raw deal in his first two fights. He would be playing the role of victim wanting fans to feel sorry for him. Even if he got this business in the first fight, he is so prosperous now. He’s worth over $160 million, maybe more.
WBO mandatory: Parker or Wardley?
The obligation that Oleksandr must fulfill now is the WBO fight with Joseph Parker. Given his fight against WBA interim champion Fabio Wardley on October 25, it’s possible the WBO situation could change names after this fight. Of the two, Wardley would be the more vulnerable due to his primitive striking style.
Usyk extends his career plan
“I will fight until I am 41. Then I will build a sports academy. I will train there and train others,” said Oleksandr Usyk via Sky Sports Boxing. “Next year,” he said, “and, God willing, I will win.”
“I can’t say who exactly because negotiations are ongoing. I would lie if I gave a name,” Usyk said.
It’s understandable why Usyk would want to fight for another two or three years, until he’s 41. He makes a lot of money from every fight. Usyk’s best payday would be against these fighters:
- Tyson Fury
- Anthony Joshua
- Moses This is going to hurt
- Joseph Parker
- Fabio Wardley
Why Itauma has to wait
“No, I won’t fight Itauma [next]. He’s youthful – he always teases me. And he himself said that he doesn’t beat grandparents! Usyk said about Moses Itaum.
