“Pat McCormack wins and it looks good.” These were a confident words of a Pat McCormack boxer born in Sunderland, when this weekend he is preparing for the headline at the Sunderland Live Arena.

A 30-year-old, two-time Olympian with a 7-0 record (5 KO), which is part of Eddie Hearna’s stable, is to return to the northeast to face the Mexican warrior Miguel Parra on Saturday evening.

It was a challenging time for the former Boxing Team GB star, and the injuries hinder his progress. However, after the impressive victory over Robbie Davies Jr in March, McCormack is ready for a performance in WBA Eliminator at the level of welterweight.

“It was good, it was a long camp and I’m ready to work. I feel in good shape, very good shape and ready to work” Chronicle live reports.

“I am excited that I came back, I had a good win in my last fight, beat Robbie Davies and got a good space there. It pushed me, and now we have a good fight with the opponent in the world. I can’t wait.

“It will be unbelievable, I haven’t boxed here for several years. It’s good to be home.”

Despite struggling with injuries at the last stages of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, McCormack is elated to return to the ring.

“Honestly, I returned to the gym as soon as possible,” he revealed. “Of course, I left the ring for some time, but I was in the non-stop gym and I just can’t wait to return on Saturday evening.

“This is the biggest fight in my career, but I will approach it in the same way as every fight. Whatever it is, it will be. This is a challenging, Mexican game, but I have a game plan to beat it.

“It’s a good fight, a very good warrior, a knockout, but I believe that I have the skills to beat him. I feel that I have the skills to look very good. It’s about winning and looking good. It’s all that counts.”

Since showing exceptional talents as an amateur, McCormack has been intended for a star and has monuments at the world championship before the end of 2026.

When it was asked if the start of the world championship title next year was possible, McCormack said: “Yes, 100 percent, you are only a few fights, but I have to win a good fight on Saturday. Then push the British or European title, something like that, then we are there.

“That was all I dreamed of growing up as a child [winning a world title] And I hope it will come true one day. I just take one fight at once.

“I would like British and European struggles, but full focus on it. The British title, Conah Walker has it, that’s what I want, or the European title, Commonwealth, whatever my team wants to do. This is a fight that everyone is talking about, so I think it’s a fight.”

Promoter Matchroom, Frank Smith, said: “As they will tell you, Pat McCormack is a warrior who in our opinion and everyone believes that they can go all the way. You look at his amateur pedigree, which he went through, I think that of course was not perfect, there were delays.

“The injuries were challenging to maintain this pace and build it, as we all know that we can and where they can get. On Saturday evening he has a difficult, real fight with Miguel Parr, WBA eliminator and begins to build.

“I think that by the end of next year the goal must be world titles. Everyone is adapted with it. I think that if we had no injuries, he would now be in this position.

“He has everything to go to the top of this sport and be the world champion, the United World Champion. He will do it. 100 percent undoubtedly.

“I think we can start a journey now. On September 6, Miguel Parra is a real fight, but then, keep him, keep him and strive to recover it until the end of this year.

“At the end of 2026, this man will be the world champion.” Asked if a potential clash with Conah Walker for a British title could materialize in the future, Smith replied: “Yes, 100 percent, see, Conah Walker showed in his fights over the past year, he can never be ruled out. He has so much heart, desire and fight in it.

“It would be a huge fight for Pat McCormack, but as I say, you can’t look next to Miguel Parr and what it brings. It’s a kind of fighting needs.

“If he goes there with people who do not push him forward, it will not do anything for his career, and on the stage on which he is located, we have to work here. I think Conah Walker is a fight we see the next one.

“It’s about Saturday evening, he must go through it. He is a professional and focuses on ensuring a huge performance.”

By blocking his path, proud of the 25-5-1 (17 KO) record, there is a Mexican warrior Parr, who said: “I had a lot of preparations for this fight, we thought it would be 10 rounds, it is 12 rounds, but I did a lot of training. I will be elated to enjoy this fight and do the best I can.”

“I’m next in line.

Undercard remaining

Details on the date and number of Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua fights made available

Published

on

Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren believes his fight with Anthony Joshua will break records, but he also revealed that the two fighters are only expected to step in the ring together once.

The two British boxing heroes will finally clash later this year, with the fight expected to take place in the UK around October. Warren showed up Sun‘s Corner Talk show to discuss the blockbuster fight and believes it’s only six months away. He said: “Tyson signed the contract a few months ago. He’s registered and ready to go. We thought AJ had signed the contract but he didn’t. But now we’ve been told he has.

“I would be thinking about October because it’s starting to get too frosty to build a football stadium in the UK.

“I think it will be a huge fight because of the fighters involved, the money they generate and how long people have been waiting for it.”

Warren predicted that the fight would likely take place at Wembley Stadium and would break box office records for any fight. He added: “I think it will be a gigantic, gigantic fight and it may turn out to be the biggest one.

“Wembley’s biggest gate right now is Tyson and Dillian Whyte, who have broken every box office record for any type of event.

“There is a lot of demand for this one, so if it goes to Wembley I will be surprised if it doesn’t break the record.”

The promoter also confirmed that Fury vs. Joshua is a one-fight deal at the moment, but things could change depending on the outcome. He said: “I have no idea what AJ is getting. We thought he had signed a contract and that we would announce the fight after Tyson’s last fight in the ring in Tottenham. But it turns out he hasn’t actually signed a contract.

“But now his warm-up has been announced, I’m sure everything is signed. And I’m sure there won’t be any slip-up.

“Right now it’s a one-fight deal.”

Instead, the 36-year-old will return to the ring on July 25 against Kristian Prengi, before facing Fury in November.

Wilder called out longtime rival “AJ” after his victory over Derek Chisora earlier this month.

The pair have been linked to a clash since both men held world heavyweight titles in 2018, and Finkel believes Joshua had no interest in fighting the “Bronze Bomber.”

“You can’t be disappointed with something that never happened,” Finkel said Heavenly sports.

“Eddie never contacted us and Joshua obviously had no intention of fighting Deontay Wilder.

“Same antique story, just modern date.”

Joshua and Wilder were scheduled to fight in March 2024, but the American was defeated by Joseph Parker in December 2023.

“AJ” will fight for the first time since he knocked out Jake Paul in the sixth round in December.

Ten days later, the two-time world heavyweight champion was involved in a tragic car accident that killed two of his close friends and left him with minor injuries.

Saudi Arabian boxing boss Turki Alalshikh announced that Joshua and Fury have signed a contract for their mega fight in a post on the website X on Monday, which read: “To my friends in the UK – it’s happening. This is signed.

Moments later, Joshua’s return was announced against unknown Albanian Prengi.

“It’s no secret that I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready to get back into the ring, and today is the next step in that journey,” Joshua said.

“I am delighted to have agreed to a multi-fight contract starting on July 25 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Fury defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov on points in his return to the ring following his retirement earlier this year.

“The Gypsy King” called “AJ”, who was watching the gala from the side of the ring, and declared that he would retire again if the fight with his rival did not take place.

However, his manager Spencer Brown revealed that he may fight again ahead of his fight with Joshua.
