The former world champion Mauricio Lara was affected by a two -year ban on boxing after the failure of the drug test, the UK (SKAD) informed. The Mexican warrior obtained a positive result in terms of forbidden substance, betamethasone, in May 2023 after Leigh Wood’s defeat in Manchester. The ban was appointed to start from March 7, 2024, which means that Lara would be entitled to compete from March 6, 2026. The 27-year-old protested against his innocence, claiming that the pollution occurred after the injection within the days preceding the fight, but he insisted that the host insulted that the sketch did not want to explain how the substance was in his system, and he did not alternative reason.
The statement of the Anti -Doping Agency was: “According to the World Anti -Doping Agency (WADA) and appropriate glucocorticoid policy, SKAD, the SKAD conducted a preliminary review, inviting Lara to explain the reason for its positive test result. In response, the SKAD received a doctor’s letter describing how Lara received an injection of dexamethasone on May 12, 2023 (unusual), after the injury of his shoulder during sparring.
“SKAD instructed an independent scientific expert to review the explanation presented by Lara. An independent expert came to the conclusion that the administration of dexamethasone on May 12, 2023 did not include betamethasone in the sample of Mr. Lara, which is a completely different substance. SKAD invited Lara to confirm whether he gave other substances before taking samples, but the boxer was not able to present an alternative explanation.
“The head of SKAD began to inform Mr. Lara that he could commit ADRV for the presence and utilize of a prohibited substance and imposed a ephemeral suspension. Lara was then accused of the commission of both ADRV. In response, Lara did not provide an alternative explanation for the unfavorable analytical discovery. “
Lara went to the peak of boxing in a featherweight in 2021. After defeating Josh Warrington from Leeds and won the WBA Feather Wweight title just over two years ago. But his time as a world champion turned out to be tiny -lived because Wood regained his belt in a rematch later in the same year.
The boxer fought three times since his defeat with Wood, leading against Daniel Lugo in February 2024, defeating Pedro Alejandro Delgado in August 2024 and overcoming Edwing Davil in January.
Lara rarely spoke publicly about her doping ban. However, City from Mexico published a mysterious clue on his Instagram website, which could have been introduced in relation to its suspension.
By publishing a picture of training in the ring on Monday, he wrote: “When you understand the game, you don’t panic.”
