Keith “One Time” Thurman took to social media to vent his frustration after WBC junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora postponed his October 25 fight due to a left hand injury following a sparring session at camp. The fight may be pushed back to January 2026 to give Fundora time to heal.
“Witty stuff” in the game
Thurman (31-1, 23 KO) believes there is something suspicious going on with Fundora (23-0-1, 15 KO) that prompts him to withdraw. He didn’t say what he suspected, but you can imagine where his mind was going.
“People don’t believe you, son, they think you’re running away, they think you do entertaining things in the game. You wouldn’t be the first or the last. Get well soon – let’s make history happen. Don’t back down from a great fight,” said Keith Thurman Instagramscolding Sebastian Fundora for postponing their fight scheduled for October 25.
It’s kind of pathetic that Fundora stoops to the level of defending against the undeserving 36-year-old Thurman because he has done absolutely zero to earn a title shot. He will get a shot at the title based on what he did 9-13 years ago when he was still energetic and at his peak.
“Nobody believes you want to smoke”
“No one believes you want that smoke, honey. Fix yourself, heal yourself and let’s go to war,” Thurman said.
It wouldn’t be the smartest thing in the world for Thurman to go to “war” against the much younger, bigger and, dare I say, more talented 27-year-old Fundora. This fight is a pure mismatch on paper and the odds reflect that.
Discrepancy on paper
Thurman is a huge underdog in this fight and has done little to deserve a shot at the world title after just one fight in the last three years.
Thurman is earning money after a three-year sabbatical
Keith’s guaranteed purse for the fight is $1.5 million, which is how much he could earn 5 million dollars from pay-per-view and sponsorship revenues.
For a fighter who has been on the shelf for three years, apart from his recent fight against lower-level boxer Brock Jarvis, that’s good money. It’s better than making a living.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that Thurman should have at least faced these sharks to earn a title shot against Fundora:
- Ericsson Likes
- Vergil Ortiz Jr.
- Jaron “Boots” Ennis
- Israil Madrimov
- Brandon Adams
- Yoenis Tellez
