Jake Paul was accused by Francis Ngannou of being “disrespectful” for asking questions about the fight.
YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul saw his fight against Gervonta Davis, scheduled for November 14, come to an end.
The exhibition fight caused confusion due to the weight difference – Davis is the world champion at 135 pounds, but Paul fights at around 200 pounds.
But now Paul has caused more controversy in his search for a novel opponent, leading to questions about Ngannou.
Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion who has fought Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in the ring, last fought at 256 pounds, well above Paul.
Ngannou’s fighting weight is about 120 pounds heavier than Davis’.
Ngannou confirmed to TMZ that he had received an inquiry about fighting Paul, but confirmed: “No, nothing like that is happening.
“How can they go from Gervonta Davis to Francis Ngannou?
“Davis is a fantastic boxer and one-time knockout artist. But come on, the weight difference doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t make sense to me.”
“They contacted me one day and told me [they need] Gervonta’s successor. I asked, “What can I do for you?”
“They said: ‘We are looking for a successor.’
“But I still don’t understand! I thought, ‘Okay, what exactly can I do for you?’
“They said, ‘We’re thinking about you fighting Jake.’
“I said, ‘Jake?’ I was very confused. I didn’t expect this at all.
“They said, ‘Jake Paul, he’s fighting…’ “I said, ‘No, bro, come on. Don’t be so disrespectful to me.’
“It’s not about the number. I’m not interested. It doesn’t make sense.”

Paul has since reacted strongly to Ngannou via social media.
“Dear Francis – just tell me you have already been humiliated in boxing and you are afraid of losing to Jake Paul,” he wrote.
“I accept that. You are an simple job, my friend. You are stuck in the mud.”
Ngannou responded to Paul on social media: “Choose your words wisely, boy. I agree you need someone to discipline you for what you did to Mike Tyson, but stick to your line.”
Paul won 12 of his 13 fights in the ring, including against Mike Tyson.
Ngannou made a name for himself by winning the UFC’s top heavyweight titles before taking up boxing.
He appeared to great acclaim for knocking down Fury in his boxing debut, despite losing points. Joshua then knocked out Ngannou.
Meanwhile, Paul also discussed a possible fight with former heavyweight champion Joshua.
