Things didn't go the way Ilia Topuria envisioned at UFC Freedom 250, but he thinks it's a learning experience for both him and his son.

Topuria was confident going into his first defense of the UFC Lightweight Championship. Justin Gaethje entered as the interim champion and the underdog. Despite being dropped by a body shot in the second round, “The Highlight†regained control and battered Topuria on the feet. Eventually, “El Matador's†team called the fight off before the fifth round could begin.

Topuria often has his son around for his fights, and this was the first time he saw his father on the losing side. The former two-division UFC champion delivered a heartfelt message to his son in a new video on social media (via Home of Fight).

“Hugo, I've been thinking of you these past few days. About what you felt when you saw me go down. I know it hurt you, and as your dad I would've done anything to spare you from that moment. But I'm also glad we went through it together. Because that day, made both of us stronger. I want you to always remember one thing, you won't always win in life, and that's okay.â€

Many are interested in seeing how Topuria responds after suffering the first loss of his pro MMA career. Prior to the defeat, Topuria was on a tear, having knocked out Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Charles Oliveira. When he couldn't stop Gaethje, things unraveled, so how he adjusts will be a story to watch.

As Topuria looks to bounce back, a pivotal lightweight matchup has been booked. Arman Tsarukyan might punch his ticket to a title shot against Gaethje if he can defeat Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331. Many feel it's unlikely that Topuria will get an immediate rematch with Gaethje, so that leaves a possible grudge match with Paddy Pimblett on the table. Fury and Joshua have spent months trying to finalize their highly
anticipated heavyweight matchup, but negotiations have stalled over
the location. Fury’s side has pushed for the fight to take place in
the United States, while Joshua and Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn
have favored England.

Tyson Fury says Anthony Joshua fight is ‘going nowhere' amid
location dispute

Fury took to Instagram and claimed that Joshua is the primary
roadblock for the fight coming to fruition.

“The facts are you don't want to fight,†Fury said in an Instagram
video. “Because if you did, you'd be ready to rock and roll like I
am. Tyson Fury has already said 1,000 times will fight anywhere, no
problem at all. Turki Alalshikh has paid you tens of millions to
fight and you're still acting like little b*tches. It is what it
is. There's nothing I can do. I can't make a coward fight, can
I?â€

Fury directed more criticism towards Joshua for not overruling
Hearn's stance regarding the location. He then revealed that he's
now looking for other matchups.

“If A.J. was any sort of man, he'd overrule the sausage [Eddie
Hearn] and he'd stand up and fight, but obviously he's not,†Fury
added. “One thing for sure is I won't wait for a sausage who's been
knocked spark out by Daniel Dubois. I've waited 10 years for this;
I've been ready every time. Every single time. But one thing I
won't be doing is wasting my later years at 38 years old with a
freak who doesn't want to fight. So, I will move on… There are
plenty of world champions out there who do want to fight, who do
want to make some money, so I'll be giving them a knock. This is
going nowhere. As always, 10 years later, still in the same boat.

Dana White says fans will 'lose their minds' for UFC Hawaii
Hawaii is a targeted future destination for the
Ultimate Fighting Championship.

During his recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,†UFC CEO
Dana
White was asked where he'd like to stage an event the promotion
has never visited previously. Hawaii immediately came to mind,
although he explained that infrastructure has prevented the
promotion from staging an event there, but a new arena is
apparently in the works.

Dana White points to a new Hawaii arena as the key to UFC’s
long-awaited debut

According to White, the state’s existing infrastructure has been
the biggest obstacle to staging an event. However, with a new arena
targeted for 2028-29, taking the promotion to the island state is a
priority.

“One of our biggest markets since day one has been Hawaii, and
we've still never put on an event in Hawaii,†White said. “We've
had multiple world champions from Hawaii. The infrastructure there
can't support a UFC event. But now they're building a new arena
there. Supposed to be done in [2028, 2029].â€

White believes Hawaii would be a particularly attractive
destination for both fans and the UFC’s staff.

“I like destinations where people want to go,†White added. “When
we do UFC Hawaii, people will lose their minds. Who doesn't want to
go to UFC Hawaii? So, off the top of my head, you’re firing that at
me… When I think about UFC Hawaii, that will be a fun one.â€
