Mike Perry speaks out after suffering injury during upset loss to Brandon Jenkins: "Health is wealth"

Jose Aldo set for October 4th fighting return vs. former UFC title challenger
Duel Arena 1 broadcast

Mike Perry has shared some words on social media in the wake of an injury that led to a first-round loss this past Saturday.

Perry was expected to meet Dillon Danis in the Duel Arena 1 headliner, but Danis was removed from the card due to an arm injury. “Platinum†had some choice words for Danis, believing it was always his plan to ditch the fight. Ultimately, the former UFC star and current BKFC standout took a short-notice MMA bout with Brandon Jenkins.

While Perry swarmed Jenkins early, he ended up suffering a dislocation. This allowed Jenkins to blitz Perry, dropping him and finishing the fight via TKO. It's a big upset loss, although many wonder how things would've played out if the injury never occurred. Jenkins has taken credit for landing an elbow that caused the dislocation.

In a statement posted on his X page, Perry discussed the importance of looking after his health in the world of combat sports.

“Health is wealth,†Perry wrote. “The MMA lifestyle taking care of the body, mind and spirit. The gym helps the process of growing your strength, but strength is needed in other areas of life and should be exercised Everywhere we go. Organize, be consistent, more recovery and stretching. Taking knowledge into my future endeavors. More to work for, more work to do.â€

It's a disappointing follow-up for Perry, who was coming off a big TKO win over Stockton legend Nate Diaz on the MVP MMA 1 card. Jenkins also competed on that event, defeating Diaz's close friend and training partner Chris Avila via split decision.

Jenkins has said he's willing to give Perry a rematch at welterweight, but it appears his top choice would be a showdown with Diaz. We'll see if Perry has a chance at revenge once he is fully healed.

Ciryl Gane defended from cheater accusations by two former UFC champions: "He wasn’t going for it on purpose"

Ciryl Gane defended from cheater accusations by two former UFC champions: "He wasn’t going for it on purpose"

Two former UFC titleholders are coming to the defense of Ciryl Gane amid a cheater label.

Some believe that Gane has bent the rules in his favor in past fights, particularly with eye pokes and illegal strikes. “Bon Gamin†came under fire for his double eye poke foul against Tom Aspinall, who still hasn't fought since Oct. 2025 due to his injuries. Gane was also scrutinized for landing illegal elbows to the back of Alex Pereira's head in their UFC Freedom 250 fight back in June.

While some have called Gane a cheater, former rivals Dominick Cruz and TJ Dillashaw disagree with that notion. During a recent edition of the “Love & War Podcast,†Cruz said that during his fighting days, he'd take the blame himself if he was ever got poked in the eye (via MMAFighting).

“I always said if you can poke me in my f*cking eye, I'm doing something wrong,†Cruz said. “You can punch me in my head. Trying to my head is so f*cking hard, if you can poke me in the eye, that's my problem, so we agree on that and I think that's why he's not a cheater.â€

Dillashaw agreed with Cruz, saying that he thinks people have the wrong idea about Gane over his accidental fouls.

“I don't think he is [a cheater],†Dillashaw said. “It's gotten blown out of the water since the Pereira fight. Obviously, everyone's a Pereira fan and they wanted him to win and they want to call the illegal blows. He wasn't going for it on purpose and Pereira's moving his head as he's hitting those. I think Herb Dean's unfortunately catching a lot of flack as well, too.â€

Gane was promoted as the UFC heavyweight champion due to Aspinall remaining sidelined. He will put his gold at stake against Josh Hokit in the UFC 334 main event on Nov. 14 in New York City.

Do you think the cheater label towards Ciryl Gane is unfair, or have you seen enough fouls to the point where it's justified? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
