For Conor McGregor's return "something [was] going to happen, for sure", per BKB 58 champ with McGregor ties

Conor McGregor's MMA return was deflating for many, with a former BKFC champion who never lost his hold on the gold weighing in on the main event of UFC 329. The combatant in question is Alberto Blas, who will defend his BKB Police Gazette diamond super featherweight crown against former BKB featherweight champ Brandon Birr at BKB 58 in Miami on August 29th.
The man McGregor dubbed ‘The Cuban Flash' captured and then defended the BKFC bantamweight belt before Blas signed with BKB and then shortly thereafter, captured their super featherweight crown against Harold McQueen in his last outing to become a multi-promotion champion. Also, interestingly enough, when Blas defected to BKB and vacated the BKFC crown without losing it in the ring, the former two-division UFC champion liked a social media post that seemed to support Blas' crossover to BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing whilst a reigning BKFC titleholder.
One of the more widely circulated images of Blas is himself holding BKFC gold next to ‘The Notorious', and when assessing McGregor's competitive return in July, Blas said [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],
“You know, I see the fight and I feel sad. I feel sad because I don't want the fight to finish like that. But normally when you fight and you stay so long not fighting for five year, something going to happen. Maybe or you win in one or two round. Or you can lose in one or two round. Hopefully happen like that and it's sad.â€
Conor McGregor's injury was not surprising after a half-decade hiatus, per multi-promotion bare-knuckle champ
Further expounding upon the likelihood of a dramatic injury returning five years after sustaining one of the most dramatic in competition injuries in mixed martial arts history, Blas stated [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],
“Yeah, normal and normal this kind of thing happen. When you stay almost half a decade [with] no fight or not do nothing, something [was] going to happen, for sure.â€

Edson Barboza calls UFC 331 star an ‘improved version of me’

Barboza sees plenty of himself in Mauricio
Ruffy and believes the surging Brazilian has become an
“improved version†of him.
Barboza, who recently retired from the
Ultimate Fighting Championship, claims Ruffy is one of his
favorite fighters to watch. Ruffy is set to face Arman
Tsarukyan in the UFC
331 co-main event on Sept. 19 in Los Angeles and Barboza
recently broke down the matchup, having trained alongside Tsarukyan
at
American Top Team.
Barboza compares Mauricio Ruffy to Anderson Silva ahead of
Arman Tsarukyan fight
Barboza gave his assessment of the matchup in an exclusive
interview with Sherdog. He claims Ruffy reminds him of UFC legend
Anderson
Silva before drawing a comparison between Tsarukyan and
Khabib
Nurmagomedov.
“Ruffy is one of my favorite fighters right now,†Barboza said.
“He's extremely creative and skilled, and he reminds me of Anderson
Silva. He just needs one opportunity to finish a fight. I'd say
he's the improved version of me.â€
While he thinks highly of Ruffy’s abilities, Barboza acknowledged
how good Tsarukyan is while comparing the latter to Nurmagomedov,
who he faced back in 2017.
“I've had the opportunity to train many times with Arman at ATT,â€
Barboza added. “He's impressive. If he needs to, he'll come at you
10,000 times until he takes you down. Khabib had more pressure. He
controls you more and is always one move ahead, but he doesn't
really look for the submission. Arman is different. He's always
looking to advance and find the finish.â€
He then highlighted Ruffy's finishing ability while hyping up the
matchup.
“Ruffy only needs one opportunity to finish the fight,†Barboza
concluded. “All I can say is that it's going to be a fight you
can't miss — a classic striker vs. grappler matchup.â€
