Woodley took on Buckley in a wrestling match at RAF 12 at Rocket
Arena in Cleveland. Buckley looked substantially bigger than
Woodley, having missed weight by a whopping seven pounds. While he
took an early 8-0 lead in the first period, Woodley came from
behind to win 14-8.

Woodley believes Buckley has what it takes to become a UFC
champion despite consecutive losses

Woodley later revealed that he has offered to help Buckley in
training. He recalls his late coach, Duke Roufus, calling himself a
winning coach, as opposed to just a striking coach. Woodley
believes he can help optimize Buckley's skill set just like Roufus
had done for him. The former
Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight champ also sees a
future UFC titleholder in Buckley.

“The first time I was behind, I staged a comeback and won the
fight,†Woodley told MMA Fighting. “For me, it was big, big
motivation and confidence boost for my career. Cause that's never
happened before… It's a win over a hungry welterweight, somebody
that I think has what it takes to be a UFC champion. And I offered
him, I said, ‘I can help you get there, brother.' Duke Roufus,
bless his soul, was like, ‘I’m not your striking coach; I’m your
winning coach.' He took my tools and my attributes and he showed me
how to make fighting a little bit easier. I know I can do that for
Joaquin. If he really wants to take me up on that. And I feel like
he has what it takes to be a UFC champ.â€

While Buckley was riding an impressive six-fight winning streak in
2024, “New Mansa†has since suffered consecutive losses against
Kamaru
Usman and Sean
Brady.

Meanwhile, Woodley defended the UFC welterweight title four times
before losing to Usman in 2019. “The Chosen One†never won in the
UFC again and parted ways with the promotion on a four-fight slump
in 2021. Woodley never officially announced his retirement from MMA
and competed in boxing matches before his RAF debut. The former
two-time All-American is now scheduled to face Khamzat
Chimaev in a wrestling match at RAF Moscow on Sept. 5.

Douglas took on Jamall
Emmers in his sophomore Octagon outing. Emmers was a +400
underdog going into his clash against Douglas. He floored Douglas
in the first round with a right hand flush to the left eye socket.
Follow-up shots were hardly necessary for the referee to step in,
as Douglas covered up and Emmers walked away with a massive upset
win.

Cub Swanson says Lerryan Douglas lost vision in his left eye

Douglas' left eye immediately swelled up from the impact. The
Brazilian's coach, former UFC fighter Cub Swanson,
has since revealed that “Gunslinger†suffered a fractured orbital
and immediately lost vision in his left eye. More details about the
injury will only be known when Douglas visits a specialist.

“Lerryan Douglas had a fractured orbital and instantly lost vision
in that eye,†Swanson wrote on X. “He is OK and I'm glad he didn't
take more damage. We'll know more after he sees a specialist this
week. Thanks for all the supportâ€

Douglas (14-6) had scored six straight finishes, including three in
the first round, before losing at UFC Sacramento.

PFL MMA

Cris Cyborg scored yet another win to add to her legendary resume at PFL Tampa, but whether or not she has competed in MMA for the final time is a question that looms.

Cyborg defeated former UFC veteran Ketlen Vieira, who weighed in at seven pounds over the limit prior to Saturday's bout. It was supposed to be a PFL Women's Featherweight Championship fight, but it ended up being a non-title bout due to Vieira's weigh-in miss. This is Cyborg's 10th straight win, and she has gone unbeaten since suffering a first-round knockout loss to Amanda Nunes back in late 2018.

With PFL undergoing a major change amid the Most Valuable Promotions merger, Cyborg is taking the play it by ear approach. While retirement remains on the table, Cyborg told reporters during the PFL Tampa post-fight press conference that she will let the pieces fall into place before making a decision (h/t MMAJunkie).

“I want to take a little break and see what's going to happen,†Cyborg said. “All this 21 years of training and all these things that happened in my life, it's a learning process. Even today in this fight I learned a lot of things.

“Twenty-one years I'm at the top, titles on the line and in the main event. I'm very grateful. I'm excited for what the future can be. I am a fighter now, but I have a lot of plans for the future at just 41 years old. The 41 now is the new 21 years old.â€

Cyborg simply can't give a definitive answer at the moment, but she let it be known that she doesn't feel like she's aging even at 41.

“I don't know if I'm going to have a fight again,†Cyborg said. “I'm 41 years old. … I wanted to 30 victories in my career. No woman did this. I'm very happy to have broken one more record.â€
