Quillan Salkilld reveals he may have suffered knee injury in win over Mateusz Gamrot: ‘I heard a little pop’

Quillan Salkilld was dominant in his victory over Mateusz Gamrot in the UFC Vegas 120 main event but that doesn't mean he's walking away unscathed.

Despite a lopsided performance in his biggest fight to date, the Australian lightweight revealed afterwards that an awkward wrestling exchange may have actually hurt his knee. While he's hopeful that the injury wasn't anything serious, Salkilld admitted after the event that it definitely got his attention during the fight.

“There was a wrestling exchange at the start where he grabbed my ankle,†Salkilld said during the UFC Vegas 120 post-show. “If it was training, I would have kind of gone with it to not hurt the knee. He had my ankle and it turned to like 90 degrees. Because I was being stubborn in that position, I didn't want to accept any bad position. I turned into it and forced it. Usually I didn't want to do that because I'm always scared about hurting my knee in training.

“This one, I just went into it and heard a little pop. Even when I had that rear-naked choke, I actually felt it. I was like f*ck, if I don't get this, my knee's going to be sore later. In round two or three, it would have been [sore]. It's a bit sore now.â€

The potential knee injury didn't stop Salkilld from eventually snatching a takedown of his own and then working his way to a rear-naked choke submission that ended Gamrot's night in the first round.

The win almost assuredly advances Salkilld into the top 10 rankings at lightweight, although he admits he's not truly thinking about what comes next until he gets his knee checked by a doctor.

“I have a little bit of a twinge in the knee right now from one of the wrestling exchanges,†Salkilld said. “For the time being, my focus on seeing what the damage is, I don't think it's too bad, but that's the next thing on my mind to be honest. Then we'll be looking at closing in on that top 5.â€

While he may have to wait a few days to get a full diagnosis on his knee, Salkilld promised that he expects to return to action before the end of the year and the location for his next fight might matter as much as his choice of opponents.

“I'm like Wolverine, no matter what the injury is, I'm going to recover quick,†Salkilld said. “The dream fight would be at [Madison Square Garden], New York. There's always a card usually in November so shit, fingers crossed, I can get matched up on that.â€

Salkilld knows many of the top lightweights are currently booked or just recently fought so his options might be limited for the time being. That said, Salkilld wanted to announce his arrival to the top of the division with his performance on Saturday night and there's no doubt everybody at 155 pounds is paying attention now.

“I just showed everyone that I'm the real f*cking deal,†Salkilld said. “I deserve to be in that top, top spot in the lightweight division.â€

Jiri Prochazka's 'fake' ninja routine rubs Reiner de Ridder the wrong way: "It's too much, dude"

Jiri Prochazka's 'fake' ninja routine rubs Reiner de Ridder the wrong way: "It's too much, dude"

Reinier de Ridder doesn't believe Jiri Prochazka's outdoor ventures and mindset are genuine.

Prochazka has been known to approach things in an unorthodox way. The former UFC light heavyweight titleholder isn't afraid to seek danger. He once swam 30 meters under a frozen lake among his other stunts. Prochazka has also lived by the Bushido code, and some believe the 205-pound ruler is a bit over the top when discussing his mindset for prizefighting.

You can count de Ridder as a detractor. Speaking to Mike Owens for Full Mount MMA, de Ridder was asked whether he sees Prochazka, Magomed Ankalaev, or another light heavyweight being the best in their weight class. It didn't take long for the former two-division ONE Championship titleholder to dismiss Prochazka.

“Nah, it's definitely not Jiri,†de Ridder said. “It's Ankalaev for the most skilled. I think in a fight, Ankalaev vs. [Carlos Ulberg], I think Ankalaev is gonna win.â€

Owens pressed de Ridder for more on why he doesn't view Prochazka as the top 205-pounder today, and that's when the Dutch submission specialist revealed he isn't a fan of what he believes is phoniness

“Jiri rubs me the wrong way with the ninja [expletive],†de Ridder said. “It's too much, dude. It feels so fake. Nah, that's not my guy.â€

There might be a scenario where de Ridder and Prochazka collide inside the Octagon. On Aug. 22, de Ridder will be moving back up to the light heavyweight division on the UFC Sacramento main card. He'll be facing Roman Dolidze, and both men are looking to snap two-fight skids.

Prochazka was last seen back in April, and many believe he blew his chance to become a two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. His opponent, Ulberg, hurt his ACL early in the fight, but Prochazka took his foot off the gas and was knocked out in the opening frame.

Do you agree with Reinier de Ridder's opinion on Jiri Prochazka, or do you have a different take? Let us know in the comments below.

Daniel Cormier scolds coach during UFC Vegas 120 broadcast amid fighter's injury: "The writing was on the wall"

Daniel Cormier scolds coach during UFC Vegas 120 broadcast amid fighter's injury: "The writing was on the wall"

Daniel Cormier called the action throughout UFC Vegas 120, and he was left puzzled by one fighter's corner.

In the main card opener of the META Apex card headlined by Quillan Salkilld's submission win over Mateusz Gamrot, Ty Miller scored a third-round TKO finish over Billy Ray Goff. The corner of Goff has come under fire for allowing their fighter to continue on despite being battered to the point where his right eye was swollen shut.

Goff was ultimately stopped just 15 seconds into the third round, and Cormier had some criticism for the defeated fighter's coach during the UFC Vegas 120 broadcast (via MMAJunkie).

“You could see his orbital bone is broken – look at his eye,†Cormier said. “Look at his right eye. And then when he got hit on the right eye he went down. The coach told him, ‘Don't engage, just circle' and essentially run. Why not just stop the fight? … The writing was on the wall, especially if that's the advice you're giving your guy going into the third round.â€

During his post-fight interview, Miller admitted that he initially thought Goff wouldn't leave his stool for the final round. He quickly refocused once he saw that the bout would indeed go past the second round, albeit for 15 seconds.

Goff is now 1-3 under the UFC banner, and he hasn't earned a win since 2023. It's also the second bout in a row where Goff has been finished. He was submitted by Ramiz Brahimaj in the first round via guillotine choke.

As for Miller, he continues to surge in his young pro MMA career. The 26-year-old is now 8-0, 1 NC as a pro and has stopped four of his opponents. The Contender Series alum figures to be in for stiffer competition moving forward, and whether he sinks or continues swimming will be a story to watch.

RAF exec: Dillon Danis not banned after brawl with Khamzat Chimaev

Khamzat Chimaev and Dillon Danis will both be back on the Real American Freestyle mat despite a brawl taking place in the main event of RAF 10 in June.

Chimaev defeated Danis via pinfall at the event in St. Louis, but Danis appeared to be slapping on a jiu-jitsu choke during the exchange. When the match was over, Danis threw a kick off of his back, Chimaev kicked back, and all hell broke loose with members of both teams swarming the mat.

Following the brawl, RAF co-founder Chad Bronstein provided an update about Danis and when he could return to the promotion.

“Yeah, you'll see Dillon Danis back in RAF,†Bronstein told MMA Fighting. “I don't need to ban Dillon because we stepped in. I'll tell you this about Dillon, [and] I work with Dillon, I've worked with Dillon behind the scenes a lot. So has Izzy, and so has our team, and he's very respectful to everybody in our organization, but we did have to deal with certain things with him.

“But I'm not going to say I'm banning him and that we won't see him on the stage, because I do think he'll be back eventually. And, again, for wrestling and everything that he's done with us, he's been nothing but respectful in our organization. Now [the brawl] was something we don't ever want, which he knows, and we've had that conversation, but I do think we'll see Dillon Danis back eventually.â€

Chimaev is already booked for his return to RAF return as he faces former UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley in the main event of RAF Moscow on Sept. 5.

For those expecting to see Chimaev more than that, Bronstein says he'll have quite a bit of wrestling activity before 2026 comes to a close.

“He's also going to have an active run,†Bronsteain said. “He'll be wrestling a couple times before the end of the year. …

“I'm excited about it. When he walked out the one time he showed up, it felt like the reinvented Undertaker [walkout]. It's probably one of the best walkouts I've seen and compliments to Eric Bischoff and James and that team when they did that, but it was just unbelievable. So I'm I'm personally excited to watch him join again, because I like watching him wrestle and I like watching him compete and he's a great professional, so, we're looking forward to it.â€
