Carlos Prates says he’ll ignore UFC welterweight call-outs until title shot
Published

Prates will accept call-outs from other welterweights in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship only after he fights for the
170-pound title.
Prates (24-7) recently addressed call-outs from fellow contenders
Sean
Brady and Uros Medic.
“The Nightmare†assured fans that he will take them on once he has
fought for the belt in his next bout.
Carlos Prates addresses Sean Brady, Uros Medic and his UFC
welterweight championship plans
Prates is also confident that he will win the welterweight title in
his next outing. He tagged Brady and Medic in a recent Instagram
post, vowing to take them on once he becomes champion.
“A lot of you guys [Sean Brady], [Uros Medic], and the other
welterweights have been mentioning my name,†Prates wrote on
Instagram. “Calm down, brothers. In my next fight, I'm taking that
belt. After that, I'll deal with all of you and take you straight
to the Kingdom of Pain. Be ready. Nothing personal, just
business.â€
Prates has finished all seven of his UFC wins and has only dropped
a decision to Ian Garry,
who fights for the title next at UFC
330. The Brazilian established himself as a leading contender
for the championship with a stoppage win over Jack
Della Maddalena in May, while the undefeated Michael
Morales is also in the title mix.
Furthermore, reigning welterweight champion Islam
Makhachev has also welcomed a fight against Prates.

Morning Report | Joe Rogan defends Tom Aspinall from critics of UFC 321 no-contest: ‘He got really f*cked over’
Published
3 hours agoon
August 5, 2026
The British heavyweight's first fight as undisputed champion this past October ended in utter disaster for him and challenger Ciryl Gane, as the bout was ruled a no-contest near the end of the first round due to Aspinall being unable to continue after Gane poked him in the eyes. Aspinall has been on the mend since, undergoing surgery to address eye injuries from the foul and waiting to be fully cleared to compete again.
In the aftermath of that debacle, Aspinall heard it from all sides with some defending his decision and others criticizing him for not pushing through the injury (worse, some have accused Aspinall of embellishing his circumstances due to him possibly losing the first round to Gane). UFC commentator Joe Rogan has always had sympathy for Aspinall's situation, and he doubled down on that take on a recent episode of his podcast.
“He got a bad deal,†Rogan said. “He got really f*cked over for that fight. The way people got upset at him for stopping the fight with those eye pokes, to me that drove me crazy. What do you expect the guy to do? He's defending the heavyweight title. He's defending the heavyweight title. He gets poked in the eyes and he can't f*cking see and he's had two eye surgeries since then.â€
Rogan's guest Rico Verhoeven, a friend and training partner of Aspinall's, also came to the heavyweight king's defense.
“He's the nicest guy and he works incredibly hard,†Verhoeven said. “He would never, never even though—Because I understand where it comes from from the people to a certain extent because they feel like, ‘Hey, Gane was doing so good in the beginning of the fight.' But it was just the beginning of the fight. It was just the first round or whatever, so it's possible because of some ring rust he had to get into it, and the fight ain't over until it's over.
“You can have an opinion about the first round, he gets an eye poke, now he's going to stop because he knew he was behind or whatever. He would never, never in whatever world do that.â€
“If you looked at the eye poke, he was knuckle-deep in his eye hole,†Rogan added.
Aspinall has continued to face scrutiny for his absence and he has responded with frequent updates on the procedures he's had to go through for his injuries as well as other personal and professional updates. He's also found himself in an odd position with UFC CEO Dana White, who is currently in an ongoing public feud with Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn, the man who just so happened to recently sign Aspinall to a management contract.
For various reasons – including a fruitless pursuit of now-former heavyweight champion Jon Jones – Aspinall has fought just twice 2023 and there remains a contingent of fans unconvinced that he's been out of action for legitimate reasons.
Rogan doesn't mince words when it comes to that specific section of critics.
“I just hate that fans reacted the way they reacted – and it's the casual ones, it's the shitheads,†Rogan said. “For me, I was like, ‘God, you've got give the guy some grace. He got his eye poked out.' He literally was knuckle-deep in his eyes.
“For anyone to think that he should be fighting with one eye like that, ‘Who cares? Keep fighting,' that's insane. He got fouled. It's not because of a punch, it's not because he got kicked or an elbow, it's a foul. So no, the fight should have been stopped the way it was and everybody should understand that. It's not his fault. It was his opponent's fault.â€

Ian Machado Garry does an ad for PETA – I’m sure MMA fans will be cool about it
Ian Machado Garry is one of the most beloved fighters in the UFC. The fans have never had a bad word to say about him, his personal relationships, or his views on women.
But if it were possible for MMA fans to like Garry more, he may have just done it, because the possible future welterweight champion of the world just did an ad for PETA.
I can’t wait for the fan reaction to this one.
Now that Rogan has come out and said it, and people hate Gane, Tom gonna be back in everyone's good graces. This is a fickle sport. – Meshew

Shavkat Rakhmonov injury update: New footage boosts UFC return hopes
Published

August 5, 2026
Rakhmonov's Octagon return.
Rakhmonov (19-0) hasn't competed since defeating Ian Garry in
December 2024. While he was expected to challenge then-champion
Belal
Muhammad in 2025, the Kazakh 170-pounder was sidelined with a
knee injury. Rakhmonov was expected to recover within a year.
However, fans' hopes came crashing down when “Nomad†was seen
wearing knee braces and using a walking stick earlier this
year.
Shavkat Rakhmonov's latest training footage offers update on
knee recovery
His coach's recent Instagram posts suggest Rakhmonov's recovery is
progressing well.
The undefeated contender was removed from the
Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight rankings after his
latest injury. It was later revealed that Rakhmonov suffered
another knee injury in training and underwent surgery. His team
recently said he should be fit to return in early 2027.
Judging by the latest training footage, Rakhmonov appears to be
recovering well. He can be seen training wrestling, bouncing on his
feet while striking and attempting a guillotine choke.
The welterweight title has changed hands twice since Rakhmonov last
fought. Garry, whom Rakhmonov defeated in his last fight, is now
scheduled to challenge Islam
Makhachev for the title at UFC
330 on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.

One-way traffic: Sean Brady predicts easy night for Islam Makhachev

Brady claims Ian Garry
doesn't pose a threat to Islam
Makhachev's title reign.
Makhachev (28-1) puts his
Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight title on the line
against Garry (17-1) at UFC
330 on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. While
many believe the Irish challenger's evasive movement and defensive
savvy will prove to be tricky for Makhachev to deal with, Brady
foresees the upcoming 170-pound championship bout ending in a
finish by the reigning champ.
Sean Brady believes Islam Makhachev will dominate Ian Garry
from start to finish
Brady notes that despite being tall, Garry is not as big and
powerful as someone like Michael
Morales. Morales, who was also in the running for a title shot
against Makhachev, had knocked out Brady in the first round last
November.
According to Brady, Makhachev won't find it difficult to take Garry
down without the threat of a one-punch knockout. The American also
notes that Garry is not the heaviest of welterweights, as the
Irishman weighed only 180.6 pounds on fight night after rehydrating
for his win over Geoff Neal in
2024.
Brady predicts a dominant victory from Makhachev, ending in a
submission win for the Russian champ.
“Garry is tall, he's long, but he's not like a Morales, where he's
like big and strong,†Brady told Home of Fight. “He's not putting
guys out with one shot… So, I don't think it's gonna be too hard
for Islam to really get him down… I just think it's one-way traffic
for Islam. I think he's gonna get him down and sub him in. Ian's
not the heaviest 170-pounder either. I think he fought in
California, where they release your weight on fight night. Ian was
only 181 pounds in the back.â€
😤Sean Brady
believes Islam
Makhachev vs. Ian Garry
will be one-way traffic and is confident Islam will finish him
easily.“Ian is definitely a big guy, but he isn't going to put you out in
one shot. The moment Islam gets his hands on him, expect him to make it
one-way traffic… pic.twitter.com/9HGAvcySyA— Home of Fight (@Home_of_Fight)
