Islam Makhachev's teammate set to replace Geoff Neal in UFC 330 undercard bout

One of UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev's new teammates will save one of the undercard bouts at UFC 330.

Islam Makhachev will kick off his UFC welterweight title reign against streaking contender Ian Machado Garry later this month at UFC 330. Makhachev won the UFC welterweight belt last year at UFC 322, defeating Jack Della Maddalena by unanimous decision.

Makhachev, the UFC's pound-for-pound king, will look to turn away another threat inside the Octagon and extend his ongoing win streak. Garry presents some challenges for the UFC welterweight champion, which could make the fight extremely competitive.

But Makhachev vs. Garry isn't the only intriguing bout at UFC 330. Welterweight mainstay Geoff Neal was supposed to face Chidi Njokuani on the undercard before withdrawing due to injury.

With weeks to prepare, one of Makhachev's new teammates will fight Njokuani to add depth to UFC 330.

Joel Alvarez set to join new teammate Islam Makhachev on UFC 330 card

UFC welterweight Joel Alvarez, who joined Makhachev's camp earlier this year, will replace the injured Neal against Njokuani at UFC 330. Alvarez has won four of his last five fights, but is coming off a submission loss to Yaroslav Amosov at UFC 328 earlier this year.

Journalist Alvaro Colmenero was the first to report the news of Alvarez's addition to UFC 330.

As for Njokuani, he's looking to get back in the win column after back-to-back losses to Carlos Leal and Jake Matthews. His last win came against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos in March 2025.

Alvarez defeated Vicente Luque last October by unanimous decision in his welterweight debut.

Makhachev vs. Garry also features a strawweight title co-main event bout between Mackenzie Dern and Gillian Robertson. Dern defeated Virna Jandiroba for the then-vacant strawweight championship last year at UFC 321.

Makhachev hasn't lost since getting knocked out by Adriano Martins at UFC 192.

UFC flyweight contender Allan Nascimento's tragic death rocked the Mixed Martial Arts world on Monday.

Tragedy struck the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Monday as UFC flyweight contender Allan Nascimento was found unresponsive at his home after an apparent heart attack in his sleep.

The promotion announced Nascimento's sudden passing in a recent press release.

“This morning, Monday, August 3rd, our beloved flyweight fighter, Allan Nascimento, was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent heart attack in his sleep,†the UFC said of Nascimento.

“Despite the efforts of the responding medical team, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Allan's family, friends, teammates, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.â€

Nascimento, 34, last fought in the UFC Octagon on June 20th, losing to Mitch Raposo by split decision. He went 4-2 in his UFC tenure with wins over Cody Durden and Jake Hadley.

Nascimento made his UFC debut in October 2021, losing an extremely tight split decision to Tagir Ulanbekov. Before signing with the UFC, Nascimento fought in promotions such as XFC and RIZIN.

Nascimento was one of the most dangerous grapplers in the UFC flyweight division, earning two ‘Performance of the Night' bonuses for submission victories. He was a staple of Chute Boxe in Brazil and was a close friend and teammate of BMF titleholder Charles Oliveira.

Nascimento made his professional MMA debut in 2011 before winning his first seven fights. He earned his first shot in the UFC via Dana White's Contender Series in 2018, losing to Raulian Paiva by split decision.

Nascimento bounced back with a first-round submission against Elivaldo Lima before making his UFC debut against Ulanbekov.

Everyone at BJPenn sends our condolences to Nascimento's family and friends during this heartbreaking time.

Professional Fighters League star Archie Colgan suffered a horrific knockout loss to Usman Nurmagomedov last weekend.

PFL lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov continued his unbeaten reign as he knocked out the previously undefeated Archie Colgan at PFL New York last Saturday. Usman, the cousin of UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov, will now test free agency and potentially receive an offer from Dana White and the UFC matchmakers.

Nurmagomedov caught Colgan with a nasty head kick, followed by brutal ground-and-pound, to hand Colgan his first career defeat. Luckily, Colgan was able to leave the cage under his own power with UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje at his side.

After a scary sight to wrap up an eventful night at PFL New York, Colgan shared an encouraging update on his health following the loss to Nurmagomedov.
