Garcia rejects the no contest by reposting Haney’s knockdown after Haney mocked his failed drug test on social media

Ryan Garcia reignited his feud with Devin Haney on Friday by posting a photo of Haney on the canvas from their April 2024 fight. The post came hours after Haney mocked Garcia’s failed drug test, prompting Garcia to double down on his belief that he won the fight despite the official no contest.

“Hold that L Bitch for eternity you little DECIEVING RAT 👍😮‍💨” said Ryan on X.

Ryan included an image from the seventh round of their fight at Barclays Center, where Haney was knocked down during what was originally ruled a majority decision victory for Garcia. He later tested positive for the banned substance ostarine, leading the New York State Athletic Commission to overturn the result to a no contest.

His “deceiving rat” remark reflects his belief that Haney is using the failed drug test to bury what happened in the ring. Ryan has never accepted the no contest and still points to the three knockdowns as proof he won.

The exchange began after Haney answered one of Ryan’s recent posts by writing, “Ostarine boy always tryna point the finger at somebody else.”

The feud has shown no signs of cooling. Ryan continues to argue that what happened in the ring should define the fight, while Haney keeps pointing to the positive Ostarine test that changed the official result to a no contest.

With neither fighter showing any interest in backing down, the rivalry remains one of boxing’s most active outside the ring. Ryan’s latest post leaves little doubt that, despite the official record reading no contest, he still views the fight as a victory over Haney.

Oleksandr Usyk is in the market for an opponent for his retirement fight, and UFC legend Jon Jones is one name that has been reported as an option.

Usyk’s last outing was met with criticism both before and after the event, as the then unified heavyweight ruler faced 1-0-recorded Rico Verhoeven, only for Verhoeven to provide a much tougher test than anticipated before being controversially stopped in round 11.

The Ukrainian great has opted to vacate all three of his heavyweight belts, but has said that he will remain in the sport for one ‘last dance’ before retirement.

Deontay Wilder has been considered the frontrunner to be in the opposite cornerbut Jones and a rematch with Verhoeven are amongst the other possibilities that have been mentioned.

Speaking with Ring Magazinehowever, Jones ruled himself out of a boxing match with Usyk, only willing if it were to take place under MMA rules.

“No, [I am not interested] not at all. Usyk is Usyk, man, he is one of the absolute GOAT’s of heavyweight boxing.

“I also am aware that he does wrestling and that wrestling has been a heavy part of his training for many years, that is probably why he is so dominant in the clinch.

“If he would like to test his total combat skills, I would oblige him in that, but to handicap myself by only using my hands – that is just not the world that I come from.

“Out of all of the heavyweight boxers, I do see Usyk as having the highest potential [in MMA] and making it competitive, but I am no boxer and I don’t really consider Usyk to be a complete fighter.

“I think that the world knows what would happen if we were locked in the same room and I’ll just leave it at that.”

News on Usyk’s farewell fight is expected in the coming months, with Wilder’s team saying they are open to making it happen.

Anthony Joshua has more riding on his comeback than simply beating Kristian Prenga, according to Gareth A. Davies, who believes the former two-time heavyweight champion needs to deliver a dominant performance to build momentum toward a long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury.

Joshua faces Prenga on July 25 in Jeddah in his first fight since recovering from the serious road traffic accident that sidelined him for much of the year. While the outcome is widely expected to favor Joshua, Davies argued the manner of victory matters.

“I think if he gets knocked down or he looks too stiff or he doesn’t look fluid enough or he doesn’t look like the destroyer he is, I think he’s got a massive opportunity to project himself towards the Fury fight in my view here against an opponent who there’s no one really on the record who is anywhere near the level that AJ has fought,” said Gareth to talkSPORT Boxing.

Davies sees Prenga as an opponent Joshua should overwhelm. A convincing stoppage would reinforce his standing before negotiations for a Fury fight, while an uninspiring showing could raise fresh questions about where he is in his career after months away from the ring.

Tom Gray, however, wasn’t convinced the performance would change anything. He argued the matchup is too one-sided to draw meaningful conclusions, saying even if Joshua were knocked down and struggled to a decision, the commercial appeal of a Fury fight would remain intact as long as he won.

The differing opinions reflect two ways of viewing Joshua’s return. Davies believes perception matters and that Joshua has a chance to remind fans why he’s still one of boxing’s biggest attractions. Gray sees the Fury fight as so lucrative that the performance itself is almost irrelevant unless Joshua suffers the unthinkable and loses.
