Terence Crawford has responded to Turka Alalshikh’s request to come out of retirement and pursue a rematch with Canelo Alvarez.

The Saudi boxing boss hosted their first meeting in September when Crawford moved up two weight classes and scored a career-defining unanimous decision victory.

In the process, the American became the undisputed king of three divisions and world champion in five weight classes before retiring in December with a record of 42-0.

Other than perhaps an immediate rematch with Canelo, there wasn’t much else Crawford could accomplish after proving himself as the top dog at 168 pounds.

Alvarez, on the other hand, is determined to reclaim a quarter of his undisputed super middleweight crown this year.

Standing in his way is WBC world champion Christian Mbilli, who will defend his title against Canelo on September 12 in Riyad, Saudi Arabia.

Like Canelo, Mbilli hasn’t fought since last September, when he drew to a 10-round draw with Lester Martinez on the Canelo-Crawford card.

The Frenchman was then promoted from interim to full WBC champion following Crawford’s retirement while Alvarez recovers from elbow surgery.

While Mbilli represents a solid opponent, earlier this week Alalshikh suggested that Crawford should retire and rematch Canelo.

In response, the 38-year-old said in a video posted on social media, retweeted by: Fighting the noisethat he still has no desire to return to the ring.

“They still want me to come out of retirement and yell at some people. What more can I ask for, man? I’m blessed. Life is stunning now and I’m enjoying every bit of it.”

Clearly, Crawford doesn’t feel the need to re-start the Hall of Fame-worthy career that made him one of the top players of his generation.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather could have a rematch in just a few months, eleven years since their first record-breaking fight. Shane Mosley, who has faced both, gives the advantage to one fighter.

Mosley faced Mayweather in 2010 and got off to a swift start, kneeing Floyd in the second round, becoming the first fighter to truly hurt the defending champion. This proved to be a short-lived success, however, as Mayweather took control with his accuracy and movement, winning a majority unanimous decision.

A year later, Mosley challenged Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title, but was outclassed throughout. Pacquiao dropped him early and dominated the fight en route to a comfortable points victory, with Mosley offering little resistance throughout the twelve rounds.

“We don’t know what Mayweather has in the tank, do we? He wasn’t in the fight. He was in the sparring and stuff, but he wasn’t in the fight. Pacquiao was fighting real competition, so I’m giving Pacquiao the advantage in this fight. But Mayweather is Mayweather, so you never know. I’d probably lean more towards Pacquiao, but we’ll see.”

Mosley’s predictions may or may not be put to the test, and conflicting reports continue to make a rematch seem in jeopardy. Following his comments downplaying the plans and stating that it would be an exhibition rather than a professionally sanctioned fightMayweather has since not confirmed that he plans to continue doing so.

On the other hand, Pacquiao remains adamant that binding agreements mean that it will happen as announced – professional rules, records at stake and streaming on Netflix.

Hearn rejected comparisons to recent events in the country and made clear his view of the scale of the fight.

“Ten times that. Tell me the bigger fight in British history than Fury-AJ. You’re talking about two great generations, certainly the biggest names in British boxing,” Hearn told iFL TV. “It’s absolutely monstrous. Everyone in the country knows who AJ and Fury are. Every child, every grandma, every aunt, every uncle. It’s just a huge event.”

In the UK it is a tribal event. It’s about two of the biggest names of a generation finally sorting out their domestic grudges, whether or not there’s a belt on the line. But for the casual fan in Las Vegas or Up-to-date York? They’ve seen both guys look vulnerable or defenseless lately, which makes the “monstrous” scale Eddie Hearn throws around feel a bit localized.

The fight had been discussed for years and fell through, but Hearn pointed to Turki Alalshikh’s role in breaking down barriers that had previously hampered negotiations.

“One of the advantages of Turki making a deal is his ability to make a deal with both parties separately. That’s why these fights actually took place.”

Hearn expressed confidence that the fight is now within reach, provided both fighters honor their upcoming commitments, and said an official announcement could come as early as July 25, potentially in the ring.

He also dismissed claims that interest has cooled, stressing that perception will shift towards fight night.

“Ask these people a few weeks after the fight if they’re interested or not. Trust me, they will be.”

Although no venue has been identified yet, Wembley Stadium remains the preferred location, although the final decision rests with those funding the event.

The fight is still contingent on both sides completing back-to-back fights, but Hearn’s stance is clear: if it does take place, it will be unlike anything that has come before in the UK.

Tyson Fury is now 37 years aged, and although he looked technically sound against Arslanbek Makhmudov in April, he has clearly lost the agile footwork that made him a nightmare for fighters in their prime.

Then we have 36-year-old Anthony Joshua, who will complete a six-round fight to defeat Jake Paul in December. When the former unified champion takes half a dozen rounds to finish off a YouTuber, it’s strenuous to deny that he’s still at the top of the sport.
