Tony Bellew praised the incredible talent and extraordinary skill of one British player in particular.
Bellew retired from the sport in 2018 but has since become one of the leading experts on the British scene.
This put Bellew up close and personal with plenty of talent on a regular basis, and it was Giorgio Visioli who clearly caught the eye of the former WBC cruiserweight champion.
The skillful southpaw successfully defended his English title last Saturday, scoring a dominant 10-round unanimous decision victory over Levi Giles.
But despite the excellent performance on the underside George Liddard and Tyler Denny fightmany believed that Visioli could have kept his foot on the gas pedal and secured victory on the stand.
Regardless, he floored his fighter with a sustained attack in the fifth round, but then chose to regain his composure rather than charge in with reckless attacks.
In doing so, Visioli maintained his defensive acumen and left the ring without a single scratch on his face, knowing that Giles’ power would never bother him.
Bellew, however, suspects the undefeated lightweight will have to be more assertive while making it clear: IFL Television that he is on a different level than most other prospects talent-wise.
“I rate him very highly, but he needs to learn to stop fucking around and playing with his food.
“When you’re as good as he is… One clip on your chin and you can go out like a delicate.
“As he goes through the division, he’ll realize that. When you hurt players, just get rid of them. Don’t worry about it.
“[But] he’s probably one of the most talented players I’ve seen in the last four or five years. He has great skills – he really has them – so I’m betting on Giorgio Visioli.
Before defeating Giles Visioli, he scored another points victory over Joe Howarth, headlining a Matchroom show for the first time in his juvenile career.
Since then, the presidential candidate promoted by Eddie Hearn has been calling for a fight with Curmel Moton, a rising American star whom he had previously faced in a heated sparring session.
Time will tell whether they will fight, but Visioli suggested that they could collide on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao 2 fight card.
