John Fury has doubled down on his criticism of Tyson Fury’s longtime trainer, SugarHill Steward.

Fury senior has already called on his son to fire Steward and once again sharply criticized the American coach.

‘The Gypsy King’ is preparing for his comeback against Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Robert McInnes, known as ‘Sifu’, and Steward, who trained him for six years, has apparently also joined the Thailand camp.

In a shocking interview in which he claimed his relationship with his son had been “destroyed”, Fury branded Steward “useless” in a scathing attack on the nephew of renowned coach Emmanuel Steward.

“At first I thought it would be me and Sifu,” the 60-year-old said Boxing book.

“I said, ‘If you’ve got it, SugarHill, I’m gone.’

“I knew he was in the background.

“He’s not good. Tactically he’s useless.

“Everyone he was in the corner with got beat.

“Muhammad Ali’s grandson had it, he threw it away on the way.

“Ben Whittaker had him. He got the undefeated Canadian. The kid was 15-0, went with Sugar and got knocked out.

“This man doesn’t do anything.”

Fury will fight for the first time since losing to Oleksandr Usyk for the second time in a row in December 2024.

The 37-year-old announced his retirement in January last year, but resigned sensational twist earlier this year.

The fighter from Morecambe hopes that the long-awaited fight with another former two-time heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, will take place later this year.

Joshua’s future has been uncertain since he was involved in a fatal car crash in Nigeria in December, which killed two of his close friends and left him with minor injuries.

The 36-year-old returned to a training camp in Spain this week and his promoter Eddie Hearn says he could return in July.

Reports emerged this week that an agreement had been reached for Fury and Joshua, although Hearn denied this.

“That is completely untrue,” Hearn said A place of stomping.

“There is absolutely nothing signed for Anthony Joshua to fight Tyson Fury next.

“Nothing is agreed.

The inquest into Ricky Hatton begins today after calls for the ‘truth’ to be revealed.

Published

on

A full inquest into Ricky Hatton’s death is due to begin today and his manager Paul Speak has previously demanded the “truth” be revealed. On September 14, 2025, Speak discovered the legendary boxer “unresponsive” at his home in Greater Manchester.

An initial inquest was held in October last year and the coroner’s court provisionally ruled the cause of death to be “hanging”. Senior coroner Alison Mutch confirmed that a final verdict will be given at the official inquest on March 20, 2026. Speak’s manager and long-time friend discovered Hatton at his Hyde residence, admitting he was overcome with solemn emotions.

Stressing the need for transparency, he said: “I want to reveal the truth, otherwise people will just speculate.”

Speak has consistently maintained that Hatton had “no intention of doing this” in connection with his death because he had planned numerous family trips. He said: “He had arranged to take his daughters to the Oasis show next week. He was planning to go to Thailand for the WBC convention and holiday after his fight.

“He’s just booked a flight to Tenerife for Christmas. I want the truth to come out or people will just start speculating. There’s a lot of crap written about Ricky and his parents, but he saw his mom just last week and gave her a large hug and some love.

“He was going to meet his dad when he came back from Dubai. His daughters had never seen him box, so he was excited about it. He had so much to live for – he was in a really good place.”

Speak also revealed gloomy details about the moment he discovered Hatton. He told Boxing News magazine: “The lights weren’t on, which I thought was strange. I thought he had overslept, but that’s not unusual. People do sleep.

“So I went in – I have the key – shouting, ‘Rick, Rick, wake up!’ I heard music coming from upstairs, so I went upstairs… I looked at him… I had to take some time to process it.

“I was in shock, lost, confused and many other emotions. Then I called the police and an ambulance. However, I firmly believe he had no intention of doing this. It’s up to the coroner to determine that, but he had something to live for.”

Tyson Fury’s relationship with dad ‘destroyed’ as John begs son to pull out of fight

Tyson Fury’s father John revealed during a heartbreaking interview that his relationship with his son was “destroyed”. John has already revealed that he will not be attending Tyson’s fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov and has begged his son to drop out.

This will be the first time Tyson enters the ring since his fight with Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024, after which he announced he was leaving boxing. John was a familiar face in Tyson’s corner during his biggest fights, but the boxer’s father admitted their relationship was tumultuous.

Talking to Daily mail“, he explained: “My relationship with Tyson is destroyed. Boxing destroyed him completely. I’ll say this on camera: I’ve never taken £10 from him in my life and I never will.

“I don’t want Tyson’s money and I don’t need Tyson’s money. Whatever he has, I wish him good luck. But don’t forget who built his story when he was a child. He didn’t build it himself, right? Me, his father.”

John isn’t sure if fighting Makhmudov will be a positive experience for Tyson and continues to beg his son to back out. He added: “I think his best days are behind him. I don’t have any filters – I say it like I see it. I love him but there are too many people patting him on the back and saying things that aren’t true, building him up like he’s invincible. He isn’t and hasn’t been for some time.

“Tyson has been gone since the fights with Deontay Wilder, they finished him off. Wilder completely finished him off. He has no leg under him. He took a lot from Tyson. Makhmudov is a problem for Tyson. I’m the first to say this.

“Listen, now I understand that Tyson is undergoing a test. But I can tell you now that his legs are gone. I understand that he will only believe it and see it when the first bell rings.

“Leave it, son. Retire as an undefeated world champion. You’ve proven everything. A bank full of money. Why else do you want to do this? The legacy has been built. The legacy has already been built. So why are you doing it?”

The reason he wants his son gone? Fury Sr. believes that Tyson no longer has the strength to go head to head with the greatest boxers in the sport.

John said: “Tyson was a powerful man, but when you fight three times with one of the hardest punches in boxing history, it takes something away from you that you can never get back. You can’t fill the tank to what it once was. And every shot he takes matters.

“Don’t forget that in the last fight he knocked down four times – with powerful, bulky punches. He fought with all his heart, pushed himself to the absolute limit and gave everything he had to get that knockout. But once he did, there was nothing left for him.

“He put everything on the line. He even said – after everything – that he was ready to die if it came to that. That was his mentality: he was ready to risk everything in the ring.”

There is less than a month left until Fury enters the ring against the Russian, and the fight is scheduled for April 11.
