Tyson Fury’s relationship with dad ‘destroyed’ as John begs son to pull out of fight

Tyson Fury’s father John revealed during a heartbreaking interview that his relationship with his son was “destroyed”. John has already revealed that he will not be attending Tyson’s fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov and has begged his son to drop out.

This will be the first time Tyson enters the ring since his fight with Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024, after which he announced he was leaving boxing. John was a familiar face in Tyson’s corner during his biggest fights, but the boxer’s father admitted their relationship was tumultuous.

Talking to Daily mail“, he explained: “My relationship with Tyson is destroyed. Boxing destroyed him completely. I’ll say this on camera: I’ve never taken £10 from him in my life and I never will.

“I don’t want Tyson’s money and I don’t need Tyson’s money. Whatever he has, I wish him good luck. But don’t forget who built his story when he was a child. He didn’t build it himself, right? Me, his father.”

John isn’t sure if fighting Makhmudov will be a positive experience for Tyson and continues to beg his son to back out. He added: “I think his best days are behind him. I don’t have any filters – I say it like I see it. I love him but there are too many people patting him on the back and saying things that aren’t true, building him up like he’s invincible. He isn’t and hasn’t been for some time.

“Tyson has been gone since the fights with Deontay Wilder, they finished him off. Wilder completely finished him off. He has no leg under him. He took a lot from Tyson. Makhmudov is a problem for Tyson. I’m the first to say this.

“Listen, now I understand that Tyson is undergoing a test. But I can tell you now that his legs are gone. I understand that he will only believe it and see it when the first bell rings.

“Leave it, son. Retire as an undefeated world champion. You’ve proven everything. A bank full of money. Why else do you want to do this? The legacy has been built. The legacy has already been built. So why are you doing it?”

The reason he wants his son gone? Fury Sr. believes that Tyson no longer has the strength to go head to head with the greatest boxers in the sport.

John said: “Tyson was a powerful man, but when you fight three times with one of the hardest punches in boxing history, it takes something away from you that you can never get back. You can’t fill the tank to what it once was. And every shot he takes matters.

“Don’t forget that in the last fight he knocked down four times – with powerful, bulky punches. He fought with all his heart, pushed himself to the absolute limit and gave everything he had to get that knockout. But once he did, there was nothing left for him.

“He put everything on the line. He even said – after everything – that he was ready to die if it came to that. That was his mentality: he was ready to risk everything in the ring.”

There is less than a month left until Fury enters the ring against the Russian, and the fight is scheduled for April 11.

Published

on

On Saturday in Orlando, Carlos Adames puts the WBC middleweight world title on the line in a fight against Austin

This weekend, the boxing great returns to Orlando as Carlos Adames and Austin Williams clash live on DAZN.

Adames puts his WBC middleweight title on the line against Williams.

The “Caballo Bronco” and “Ammo” fight was originally scheduled to take place earlier this year, on January 31.

They were scheduled to fight on the blockbuster card of Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson, but the fight was stopped due to Adames’ illness.

The Dominican is the current champion and became the WBC interim champion in 2022, defeating Juan Macias Montiel in the third round of their fight.

He most recently defended his full world championship on the season card in Riyad in the co-main event with a rematch of Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev last February.

He faced British fighter Hamzah Sheerazthe pair fought to a controversial draw.

His opponent, Austin Williams, also fought Sheeraz in 2024 and was on the wrong side of a stoppage loss.

Despite this defeat, ‘Ammo’ is in impressive form, with four wins in the last 16 months.

The competitor promoted by Matchroom is fighting for the world title for the first time in his career.

Omari Jones vs. Christian Gomez

In the co-main event, Olympic medalist Omari Jones returns to action with a points victory over Jerome Baxter after the last break.

His decision victory in January was the first time Jones heard the final buzzer since turning professional last year.

“Banger” will fight his sixth professional fight and will be counting on the fifth break in his career.

He will face experienced Mexican fighter Gomez, who has an impressive 23 wins under his belt, and it should be the toughest test of Jones’ career so far.

Gomez is coming off a losing streak dating back to November 2024, but he should still have enough to give Jones rounds in the first eight-round fight of his career.

Teremoana Teremoana vs. Curtis Harper

Another of Eddie Hearn’s most invigorating prospects appears on the card, this time at heavyweight.

Australian heavyweight champion and Olympian Teremoana Teremoana returns to the ring. Since his debut, he has proven that he is a real threat to anyone he shares the ring with.

In each of his fights so far, he closed the gala before the final bell.

For the first time, the 28-year-old is scheduled to fight eight rounds against Curtis Harper in his second fight in America.

Undercard remaining

Two undefeated prospects put it on the line when Jaycob Gomez and Corey Marksman face off at super featherweight.

Despite just two more fights, Gomez has fought 20 more professional rounds than Marksman and hopes his experience will allow him to earn the best victory of his career.

On the other hand, the American has more stoppage victories in fewer fights, so he will likely retire to finish the show in style.

Prediction: Gomez should get the job done with a brief distance victory over 10 rounds.

In the super welterweight division, undefeated Antraveous Ingram returns to fight Christopher Thompson.

Prediction: Even though Thompson has more experience on paper, he will likely be outplayed and Ingram should take a comfortable victory after the break.

After a successful debut in December, Junior Alcantara appears in the professional ring for the second time; should score more points in the victory over Israel Camacho.

The card features Roberto Raul Rivera Gomez, Carlos Jamil De Leon Castro and Jordan Orozco Hernandez, with opponents to be announced in the coming days.

George Liddard will defend his British and Commonwealth middleweight titles against former European champion Tyler Denny on Saturday at the Copper Box Arena.

Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom is promoting the Liddard vs Denny fight, and DAZN will broadcast the event live on television around the world.

Liddard (13-0, 8 KO), undefeated in 13 professional fights, made his presence known on the domestic scene in October, stopping Kieron Conway from stripping his Commonwealth crown and adding the vacant Lonsdale belt to his collection.

23-year-old he is also constantly entering the world stage, taking places in the top fifteen of the IBF and WBA rankings, and the fighter from Essex can strengthen his IBF ranking here, and the vacant IBF Intercontinental belt is also at stake.

Denny (21-3-3, 1 KO) is a reasonable step up from Conway and certainly has the advantage in terms of experience.

The 34-year-old has previously held a European belt and has solid wins over the likes of Felix Cash, Brad Pauls and Matteo Signani.

The southpaw challenger has been defeated three times, including twice by stoppage, most recently by Hamzah Sheeraz in two rounds in 2024.

Denny has bounced back from two wins over Elvis Ahorgah and Grant Dennis respectively and looks set to face a major blow against Liddard.

Sains fights Osaze

Jimmy Sains defends his English middleweight title for the first time against Derrick Osaze.

Sains (11-0, 10 KO) won the vacant belt in the last round, beating retired Troy Coleman.

Osaze (13-3, 3 KO) is looking to end a two-fight losing streak, the last of which lost by unanimous decision to Liddard in January.

Visioli fights Giles

Highly rated lightweight prospect Giorgio Visioli defends his English title for the first time against Levi Giles.

Visioli (10-0, 6 KO) defeated Joe Howarth in December to win the vacant title and was strongly linked with a fight with the rising American, Curmel Moton.

Giles (17-2-1, 4 KO) gained weight after two defeats in the super featherweight division and had no chance to fight for the title of champion of England, Great Britain and the Commonwealth of Nations.

Undercard remaining

Emmanuel Buttigieg (11-0, 3 KO) can also win on points against Jake Goodwin (8-2-1, 1 KO) in a middleweight fight.

Electrifying super middleweight fighter Taylor Bevan (7-0, 7 KO) should score eight wins by knockout against Argentine Martin Ezequiel Bulacio (15-10, 10 KO).

Featherweight Adam Maca (4-0, 4 KO) can also maintain a 100% knockout rate against Lydon Chircop (8-3, 4 KO).

Also weighing in at 126 pounds, Connor Mitchell (1-0, 1 KO) may need distance for the first time when he meets Italian Yuri Zanoli in just his second outing as a pro.

Super featherweight Louie Ward makes his professional debut and can start with a points success over Jahfieus Faure (4-23-3).
