Eddie Hearn didn’t circle around it. He closed it immediately.

Promoter Matchroom has made a edged withdrawal after talkSPORT’s Gareth A Davies said Anthony Joshua already had a contract ready to fight Tyson Fury, along with the possibility of broadcasting it. Hearn made it clear that nothing was certain.

“Completely untrue. There is absolutely nothing signed with Anthony Joshua fighting Tyson Fury next. Nothing is agreed.”

This is not a negotiating position. This is a categorical denial.

Hearn explained that the real discussions took place before Joshua’s car accident in Lagos. The plan at this stage was clear in the gym. First up is Jake Paul. Then back at the beginning of the year. Then Fury.

This sequence was interrupted when Joshua left training.

“There hasn’t really been any conversation about this fight since then, other than conversations with Dr. Rakan, Sela over the last few days about starting to think about reconsidering the plan.”

It’s not a moving fight right now. This is early preparatory work.

The transmission claim associated with the report also did not stand. Joshua has been with DAZN for years and Hearn has given no indication that this will change.

Joshua is just now heading back to the camp. Physical work comes first. After that comes the fight.

Fury has his own business lined up. Next is Arslanbek Makhmudov, who has already started setting goals.

Joshua is one of them. But there is no binding contract.

Hearn was sure of it.

Ryan Garcia claims his next move is confined and has pointed directly at Teofimo as the option that stands before him at the moment.

“Well, I don’t have a lot of options,” Ryan said in a clip shared by Ring Magazine when asked about fighting Teofimo next. “Devin Haney ducked me. Shakur just ducked me. So I have one option. But if Teofimo gets to 147, it’s going to be tough for him. But he said he’s down there.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn has responded to reports that his heavyweight protege Anthony Joshua has agreed to fight Tyson Fury after years of fans demanding the fight.

Joshua was last to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, collecting a monumental payday following a sixth-round stoppage. Tragedy struck, however, when the Olympic gold medalist and two-time university champion was involved in a car accident in Lagos, Nigeria, which resulted in the death of two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

This put initial plans to fight Fury on hold while “AJ” recovered physically and mentally. These negotiations may resume with the imminent return to camp – but one report has moved the issue significantly.

Last weekend, talkSPORT’s Gareth A Davies said on air that the fight was “agreed” and would be broadcast live on Netflix, despite Joshua and Hearn working with DAZN.

Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Hearn – who has been promoting “AJ” since his professional debut and will continue to do so until his retirement after signing the career-long partnership in 2021 – stated that this statement is not true.

“Completely untrue. There is absolutely nothing signed with Anthony Joshua fighting Tyson Fury next. Nothing is agreed. There were talks – deep talks before the accident – that he would fight Jake Paul, then he would fight in February or March in Saudi Arabia, and then he would fight Tyson Fury. Then, of course, the accident happened.

“There have been no discussions about this fight since then, apart from conversations with Dr. Rakan over the last few days. [Alharthy]Sela, I’m starting to think about reconsidering the plan.

Fury returns to fight Arslanbek Makhmudov next month and has said his only goals are AJ, the winner of Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois and a trilogy fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

Information on Joshua’s return to training camp will be provided in the coming weeks, with a return to fighting expected in delayed summer.
