Just days before his 49th birthday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced that he will retire and resume his professional boxing career after a spring 2026 boxing show with Mike Tyson
Mayweather has signed an exclusive deal with CSI Sports/Fight Sports as a promoter for the next stage of his career.
“I still have what it takes to set more records in boxing,” Mayweather said in a written statement to ESPN. “From my upcoming event with Mike Tyson to my next professional fight after that, no one will generate a bigger gate, have a bigger broadcast audience around the world and generate more money with each event – than my events. I plan to continue this with my global media partner, CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS.”
Mayweather retired from boxing at the age of 40 after an August 2017 knockout victory over MMA star Conor McGregor and took his record to a perfect 50-0 with 27 wins before his stoppage. Since then, Mayweather has participated in several exhibition boxing matches with fighters such as Logan Paul, Mikuru Asakura and John Gotti III.
Last September, it was announced that Mayweather and Tyson would meet in an exhibition match in spring 2026. There were reports that the fight would take place on April 25 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, however, ESPN could not confirm it would happen on that day, and no network was formed to carry the fight.
Mayweather has been in the news for the past few weeks when he filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Showtime earlier this month. Mayweather claims he is owed “at least” $340 million of his $1.2 billion purse for career fights.
Mayweather will return to the sport with an entirely recent group of fighters who are almost half his age. However, Manny Pacquiao’s recent return to the professional ranks suggests that a much-discussed rematch between the two fighters after their 2015 meeting could be staged as a professional boxing fight.
“Signing Floyd Mayweather to retire from his career after he attracted another global audience with his fight against Mike Tyson underscores our commitment to providing our global audience with the most iconic fighters in sports,” Richard and Craig Miele, co-founders of CSI Sports/Fight Sports, said in a written statement. “Floyd will once again dominate boxing with the largest audiences and highest-grossing events of all time. We are proud and honored to partner with our global team at CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS. We look forward to even more announcements that will excite fans and continue to build the sport in 2026!”
