According to reports, world middleweight champion Janibek failed a doping test
Middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly reportedly failed a VADA test days before his next fight.
Janibek, a WBO and IBF champion, is scheduled to face WBA champion Erislandy Lara in a unification bout on Saturday in Texas on the Isaac Cruz vs. Lamont Roach fight card.
Later, however, the duel was questioned Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine announced that Janibek presented an unfavorable analysis result regarding a performance-enhancing substance in a voluntary anti-doping test [VADA].
Details about when the test was conducted and what banned substance it was involved in are unclear.
At the time of publication of this article, members of Janibek’s team had not responded proboxing-fans.com asking for comment on the situation.
The Kazakh southpaw is undefeated in 17 professional fights and retained his two belts after a fifth-round stoppage of Anauel Nganmissengue in April, but has struggled to lure top fighters to the ring.
Lara, 42, forced Danny Garcia to retire in the ninth round last September to defend his WBA title.
The winner of this fight was associated with the potential to face the undisputed super middleweight champion, Terence Crawfordwho will likely move up to middleweight after a sensational disagreement with Canelo Alvarez in September.
Alimkhanuly expressed interest in a possible fight with the five-weight world champion.
“The motivation for me is to win all four titles and that’s what I’m trying to achieve,” he said
“Obviously, if there was an opportunity to fight a fighter like Crawford, it would be a gigantic, gigantic, huge opportunity and it would bring a lot of motivation.”
According to Ring Magazine, if Janibek is withdrawn, a fresh opponent for Lara may emerge.

Jaron Ennis is the bookmakers’ main favorite to defeat Xander Zayas in their highly anticipated world title clash on Saturday in Brooklyn.
Ennis challenges Zayas for the WBO and WBA super welterweight belts at the Barclays Center live on DAZN pay-per-view.

On Wednesday, Lewis Crocker heads to Australia to defend his IBF welterweight world title against Liam Paro for the first time.
Crocker will face Paro at the Pat Rafter Arena in Queensland, live on DAZN in the UK and Kayo Sports in Australia.
Crocker (22-0, 11 KO) became world champion in September, defeating Paddy Donovan twice before winning the rematch by split decision.
Man from Belfast recorded his second victory over Donovan after the first victory in March last year, and his rival was disqualified for hitting him after the bell.
Paro (27-1, 16 KO) is trying to become a world champion in two weight categories, having previously reigned in the super-lightweight division.
The 30-year-old won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico before winning the belt in his first defense against Richardson Hitchins.
The Australian has since won twice, overtaking David Papot in his last appearance in September.
McKean meets Taliva
Heavyweight Demsey McKean will look to continue his rebuild when he faces Liam Talivaa for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title.
