Tim Bradley shared his opinion on the anticipated fight between Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson.
Their potential clash was first discussed in August, and both players regularly discuss the minutiae of their deal on social media.
However, a turbulent period of negotiations has since appeared to have only delayed the official announcement, with various reports suggesting that negotiations could occur in the first quarter of 2026.
If that does indeed happen, it is expected to be at 140 pounds and Lopez (22-1 (13 KO)) will defend his WBO super lightweight title against Stevenson (24-0 (11 KO), whose last fight gave him an all-around advantage over William Zepeda in July.
The 28-year-old thus successfully defended his WBC lightweight title after voluntarily defending against Josh Padley, who replaced Floyd Schofield Jr on just a few days’ notice in February.
But now it appears Stevenson will face a career-defining opportunity as he hopes to win another major title in his fourth weight class.
It seems that Lopez, who defended his WBO belt by unanimous decision over Arnold Barboza Jr. in May, stands in his way.
Previously on The Takeover, there had been a string of much less inspiring performances, both of which paled in comparison to his two highlight wins over Vasily Lomachenko and Josh Taylor.
However, despite less impressive form in recent years, former two-division world champion Bradley sees his potential clash with Stevenson providing absorbing spectacle.
Offering analysis in file a video on your YouTube channelthe American boxing expert also firmly believed that Stevenson would have his hand raised.
“Shakur just constantly takes away your best shot, takes away your position. He makes sure he doesn’t give up on defense when he’s attacked.
He’s a guy who takes the air out of the ball. He’s one of those guys you hate. I want to see Teo with a guy who can outsmart him.
Shakur doesn’t have that kind of athleticism; he doesn’t have the explosiveness of Teofimo Lopez. But in Shakur’s case, he knows how to follow a plan. I’m going with Shakur Stevenson.”
An official announcement is expected soon, and it will soon become clear whether Bradley’s predictions come true.
