Exclusive: Skoglund warns Crawford to avoid lightweight

Terence Crawford Skoglund

The World Boxing News talked only with the former contender to the super medium, Erik Skoglund, who issued a great verdict about the victory of Terenka Crawford about the victory over Canelo Alvarez-during the warnings of the future jump on a scale.

Crawford shocked the world of boxing in 2025, when it was created at the beginning of the welterweight to dominate the Mexican icon at 168 pounds. For Skoglund, the master class Omaha consolidated him as one of the real great generations.

“I think it was brilliant,” said Skoglund WBN. “He controlled Canelo in a way I haven’t seen before. I saw Canelo losing only because of the size – except for the fight with Floyd, which he lost because of a lack of experience. Crawford is an amazing warrior and fought with an amazing fight.”

WARNING: Featherlight massive weight is “too much step”

After conquering 135, 140, 147, 154, and now 168, Crawford’s readiness to climb to divisions made fans speculate about moving to a delicate massive weight. But Skoglund, who led the campaign in the same division, thinks it would be a mistake.

“Canelo, he was not in a hurry in super medium weight,” he explained. “He just did not raise, did not change his mind and did not return. I do not think Crawford would try in a delicate massive weight. This is too much a step, and because it comes from 147, he does not have to prove himself at the age of 175.”

Unquestionable landscape: mandatory traps and a newfangled problem

In a wider landscape, in which the unquestioned championships are becoming more and more common, Skymoglund accepted brightness with satisfaction, but warned about the traps with the sanctioning body.

“In a sense, I think it’s good. You get one master, and sooner or later he has to face a mandatory contender. The problem is that organizations have different fines and you can stay a long shot.”

Note Skoglunda reflects the widespread fight of the newfangled era, in which the undisputed masters often encounter the contradictory, direct requirements of the four main bodies. With mandatory dates often due at different times, the latest story showed that titles, including Canelo, may be forced to leave the belts, and not face less market, a compulsory opponent in favor of a more lucrative union or rematch.

With Crawford, unquestioned in Super Middle Wich, his legacy is still developing beyond the debate. The insight of Skoglund emphasizes what most observers already believe – boxing can never see another warrior moving on the scales with such precision and dominance.
