O’Shaquie Foster defended his WBC super featherweight title in his first defense before coming from under the cards to stop Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez in the final round of their Wartime meeting in Cancun, Mexico, which was broadcast on the Live On Live Stream DAZN.
Foster won the title in February, clearly over previously undefeated Rey Vargas, while Hernandez has gained six points since a first-round knockout loss to Roger Gutierrez in 2019. Therefore, Foster vs. Hernandez was a fight between two men. full of confidence.
It was a real battle and few saw it coming to an end, with Hernandez (34-2, 31 KO) showing skill and technique to gain a decisive advantage on the scorecards after eight rounds. In fact, the Mexican won all eight rounds on one card and had a 78-73 advantage in the remaining two, but in rounds nine and ten he decided to give up, allowing Texas’ Foster (21-2, 11 KO) to get back into the argument, charging towards front and making contacts with greater regularity than previously during the competition.
There was a round of the year contender in the penultimate frame when Foster turned the tables by hurting Hernandez and then increased the pressure, only for the home favorite to respond with interest and hit Foster despite being on unsteady feet as the crowd hyped the action. The two went all out in the final round, but the previous stanza took its toll on Hernandez, who was knocked down by a right hand, and although he got the count, his legs gave him away once he was back in position, and then… An overhand attack forced the referee to intervene.
Undercard review:
As expected, Eduardo Nunez (25-1, 25 KO) came close to fighting for the world title, defeating former world champion Oscar Escandona (27-7, 18 KO) in the second round of their super featherweight meeting. Nunez uncorked a powerful, pounding right hand that hit Escandona difficult and he was unable to continue.

O’Shaquie Foster won the vacant WBC super featherweight title in some style, ending Rey Vargas’ long undefeated streak with a decisive victory at the Alamodome in Texas.
Vargas previously reigned as the WBC super bantamweight and featherweight champion and was undefeated in 36 fights leading up to this fight, while Foster was on a nine-fight win streak after two early career losses.
Foster (20-2, KO11) unexpectedly dominated the fight, while Vargas (36-1, KO22) paid off with a leisurely start to the fight. Foster countered with a solid hook, and in the third round Vargas was cut off in what looked like a clash of heads. Foster’s quicker footwork was winning, Vargas was unable to gain a foothold, and by halftime it looked like the American had probably won every round. The Mexican had his best round so far in the seventh set, landing on his opponent’s body, but Foster quickly regained control. Although Vargas finished a respectable ninth, Foster closed out the championship rounds decisively, and when the fight was on the cards, the outcome was in no doubt.

On Saturday at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, Mauricio Lara became the WBA featherweight world champion by defeating Leigh Wood in the seventh round.
Wood (26-3, 16 KO) was on cruise control for the first six rounds before Lara (26-2-1, 19 KO) landed a huge left hand that knocked him to the canvas and he was dragged out of the corner. after getting back on my feet.
Wood won the belt in July 2021 by defeating Xu Can in the last round, and then repeated the trick in his first defense against Michael Conlan. The guy rose to fame after stopping Josh Warrington in 2021 and was considered a formidable player.
After a technical first round in which the home favorite was decapitated by a clash of heads, the champion came alive in the second round but was caught by a large right hand from Lara tardy in the frame that rocked him.
Wood produced a fluid and precise third and landed several eye-catching right hands in the fourth.

The 34-year-old landed a successful body shot that caught Lara’s attention on the fifth throw, and “Bronco” began to lose strength, with Wood regularly punching first.
Almost out of nowhere, the pair landed simultaneously and Lara’s left hand landed squarely on the money, dropping the champion strenuous.

This left him on unsteady feet, and when the fight was about to resume, Wood’s trainer Ben Davison he threw in the towel to signal the end of the competition.
Wood has a rematch clause and confirmed that he wants to repeat it with the 24-year-old.

O’Hara Davies won a crossroads fight at the Newcastle Arena, defeating Lewis Ritson in the ninth round of their WBA super lightweight title eliminator.
Davies (25-2, KO18) comes into this fight on the back of six straight wins, while Ritson (23-2, KO13) has won twice since a tenth-round stoppage in June 2021 at the hands of Jeremias Ponce.
It was a tight start and both players gave their all early on, with Davies being the better in action. It took Ritson around the fifth round to get going when he landed several tough left hooks, but a round later Davies took complete control, hurting Ritson in the body. Ritson was injured again in round seven and more body work in round eight put the fight back towards the Londoner, with the end soon to come. Davies’ wicked left hook left Ritson writhing in agony and he was unable to take down the count, securing the victory for ‘Two Tanks’.
