The Women’s World Boxing Championships (WBA) Commission has ordered a mandatory flyweight title fight between champion Gabriela Alaniz and the division’s official challenger, Jacky Calvo.

Rule C 11 states that “A boxer who wins a title by defeating a champion shall defend his title initially and then against the official challenger as follows: Non-heavyweight category: if official challenger, within (9) months from the date the title was won; if not an official candidate, within (120) days.”

In the case of Alaniz, she won the belt on April 27, 2024, and therefore her next mandatory fight should take place no later than August 27 this year with Mexican Calvo.

Lauren Price was crowned the modern World Boxing Association welterweight champion after knocking out Jessica McCaskill by ninth-round stoppage on Saturday at the Cardiff International in Wales, England.

Thanks to the intelligence and ferocity of local boxer Price, an attractive fight was developed for those in attendance.

McCaskill has held the crown since August 2020, when she managed to displace the legendary Cecilia Braekhus in the 65 kg weight class. belts becoming the unified champion. This was her fifth defense.

The American player from Chicago fought a frontal fight honoring her aggressive style, but time, distance and accuracy were on the side of the Welsh representative Lauren Price.

Each athlete’s position on the ropes led to a mighty headbutt in the fourth round after McCaskill’s failed dive, which resulted in noticeable swelling of the American’s left eyelid.

This accidental injury escalated as the rounds progressed until, after a medical examination in the ninth round, referee Michael Alexander called an end to the action and, by unanimous technical decision, the judges awarded Price a three-card victory 90-82 in her favor.

Price achieved great feats on the amateur field, making history in women’s boxing in Wales by being the first to give medals to her nation and then to the elite Great Britain team: bronze 2014 at the Commonwealth Games, gold 2018 at the same competition, gold 2019 at the World Games and European teams to win the dream gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.

By June 2022, Price had taken a step towards professionalism and since then she has remained undefeated with 7 victories, 1 of them in speedy track, and now she adds the absolute championship of this pioneering organization.

Cherneka Johnson defeated Nina Hughes by majority decision to win the World Boxing Association 118-pound title. belt at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. And the judges’ scorecards were: 95-95/98-92/96-94 for the local.

In a confusing situation before the fight ended, the announcer first declared Nina Hughes the winner and then corrected himself by calling Johnson the winner on the same scorecards, both fighters’ performance between the ropes stood out.

Briton Hughes showed exemplary sporting results, which once again broke the paradigms that consider age as a limiting factor: at the age of 41, she showed a consistent rhythm from start to finish, offering numerous combinations, speed and continuity.

Up front, Johnson, displaying strength and precision in her striking, tested Hughes’ physical strength, which delighted the audience and thus became, apart from the result, an example of overcoming for younger generations.

The former British champion’s numerical record is 6 wins, 2 knockouts and her first defeat. The modern owner of the WBA bantamweight world championship has 16 victories, 6 of which were on the brisk track, and only 2 defeats.

The pioneering organization congratulates both of them.
