Lennox Lewis answers if Oleksandr Usyk could have competed in his era

Two-time undisputed world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is considered one of the top fighters in the division, although some say he lacked fierce competition. When asked how Usyk would have fared in his era, Lennox Lewis replied confidently.

Usyk’s undisputed performances in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions have become legendary. winning all four 200-pound belts and three away victories before moving up to heavyweight and making history – all while maintaining an undefeated record – against Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

While there is no doubt about the great Ukrainian’s skills, some fans still debate whether the era Usyk conquered can be considered a indigent one.

Meanwhile, Lewis, the last before Usyk to claim the coveted, undisputed heavyweight throne, had to fight for the belts with stars such as Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Riddick Bowe.

In an interview with Boxing News, Lewis was asked whether the 39-year-old southpaw would be able to cope during this star-studded period, and ‘The Lion’ explained why he felt Holyfield’s success was proof that he could.

“He would do well [in my era]. Just look at how Evander Holyfield did, Oleksandr is the same height and just as good. I think he would do just as well.”

Holyfield and Usyk remain the only fighters in boxing history to hold the undisputed title in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions, and David Haye was the only other fighter to hold a world title in both divisions.

However, a fourth fighter may soon be joining this elite club, and it includes Murat Gassijew, who has a chance to become the full WBA heavyweight champion in the near future if Usyk leaves the team or is stripped.

Eddie Hearn closes out Joshua vs. Fighting rage claim

Image: Eddie Hearn Shuts Down Joshua vs. Fury Fight Claim

Eddie Hearn didn’t circle around it. He closed it immediately.

Promoter Matchroom has made a edged withdrawal after talkSPORT’s Gareth A Davies said Anthony Joshua already had a contract ready to fight Tyson Fury, along with the possibility of broadcasting it. Hearn made it clear that nothing was certain.

“Completely untrue. There is absolutely nothing signed with Anthony Joshua fighting Tyson Fury next. Nothing is agreed.”

This is not a negotiating position. This is a categorical denial.

Hearn explained that the real discussions took place before Joshua’s car accident in Lagos. The plan at this stage was clear in the gym. First up is Jake Paul. Then back at the beginning of the year. Then Fury.

This sequence was interrupted when Joshua left training.

“There hasn’t really been any conversation about this fight since then, other than conversations with Dr. Rakan, Sela over the last few days about starting to think about reconsidering the plan.”

It’s not a moving fight right now. This is early preparatory work.

The transmission claim associated with the report also did not stand. Joshua has been with DAZN for years and Hearn has given no indication that this will change.

Joshua is just now heading back to the camp. Physical work comes first. After that comes the fight.

Fury has his own business lined up. Next is Arslanbek Makhmudov, who has already started setting goals.

Joshua is one of them. But there is no binding contract.

Hearn was sure of it.

Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis all targeted by welterweight’s newest addition

Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis are in the crosshairs of one man hoping to get his name on the top tier.

Currently, Haney holds the WBO welterweight world title while Rolando Romero holds the WBA crown and the US pair are expected to face off in a title unification fight in May.

Meanwhile, California’s Garcia has become one of the biggest names in the sport after winning the WBC welterweight world title by beating Mario Barrios, while IBF Northern Ireland ruler Lewis Crocker is making a trip Down Under to face Liam Paro in his first title defense.

Keyshawn Davis is another name that seems ready to be added to the equation as he threatens to move up to welterweight.

After an impressive victory over Kenneth Sims Jr. on the weekend Arnold Barboza Jr. from Los Angeles exclaimed in his post-fight interviewwanting to ensure a sedate fight.

“Who wouldn’t mind seeing me and Ryan Garcia in that arena, man? We would unpack all that shit. I want any of the champions, man; Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, Rolly [Romero] AND [Lewis] Crocker.

“But there is one person on Instagram who is annoying if he wants to get to 147 pounds, where are you in Keyshawn Davis?”

Barboza bounced back from his first career loss at the hands of Teofimo Lopez and extended his record to 33-1 with a one-sided victory over Sims Jr. in Anaheim by unanimous decision. The 34-year-old now hopes to accept a second world title in this recent division, adding another dimension to the intriguing welterweight picture.

However, Barboza also shook hands on a potential clash with Alexis Rocha following his victory, foreshadowing a possible war between the Californian duo this summer as the champions look more likely to fall apart.

Ryan Garcia encourages busy champions when Teofimo is an option

Image: Ryan Garcia says champions should fight often as Teofimo Lopez option surfaces

Ryan Garcia claims his next move is confined and has pointed directly at Teofimo as the option that stands before him at the moment.

“Well, I don’t have a lot of options,” Ryan said in a clip shared by Ring Magazine when asked about fighting Teofimo next. “Devin Haney ducked me. Shakur just ducked me. So I have one option. But if Teofimo gets to 147, it’s going to be tough for him. But he said he’s down there.”

The comment immediately brings Teofimo’s attention as Ryan looks for a lineup for his next fight. The difference in mass is at its center. Garcia works at 147 pounds and Lopez competes in a lower division, which Ryan saw as an obstacle to negotiations and choosing a date.

For Garcia, this is his best chance for a nice payday in a successful fight against the star.

Teofimo is coming off a one-sided loss to Shakur Stevenson on January 31, 2026 at 140 pounds. He would have to move up to 147 pounds if he wants to challenge Ryan for the WBC welterweight belt.

Ryan also made it clear how he viewed his position as titleholder. He recently said that champions should stay busy and not go long periods of time without fighting. “I’m a world champion now. I think a world champion should fight often,” Garcia said during a separate appearance on the N3on broadcast, emphasizing that he wants to come back quickly and remain evident in the division.

This attitude coincides with his insistence on a summer date. Garcia has made it clear that he is ready to fight in July if he finds the right opponent, and the Teofimo option is now at the forefront of that commentary. He also agreed with the suggestion that opponents were challenging to secure, pointing to the lack of fights currently available.

The situation finds Ryan in a narrow street. He named himself Teofimo, acknowledged his weight problem, and linked it to his desire to remain an busy champion. Regardless of whether Lopez advances or talks move elsewhere, Ryan has made it clear he doesn’t want to wait and wants the next fight to be finalized soon.
