O’Shaquie Foster won the vacant WBC super featherweight title in some style, ending Rey Vargas’ long undefeated streak with a decisive victory at the Alamodome in Texas.

Vargas previously reigned as the WBC super bantamweight and featherweight champion and was undefeated in 36 fights leading up to this fight, while Foster was on a nine-fight win streak after two early career losses.

The Mexican had his best round so far in the seventh set, landing on his opponent’s body, but Foster quickly regained control. Although Vargas finished a respectable ninth, Foster closed out the championship rounds decisively, and when the fight was on the cards, the outcome was in no doubt.

Foster became the modern champion with scores of 119-109, 117-111 and 116-112.
