George Foreman was more than a boxing master

As preteen, I was confused when my father told me about George Foreman, because what I saw on television did not quite fit what he tried to explain.
“This guy?” I asked when Michael Buffer announcer presented Foreman about the heavyweight title of Evander Holyfield on April 19, 1991. Foreman wore a red robe with a hood covering his bald head. The white towel covered the front of his 257-pound frame when he was circling there. During the introductions, Buffer said that Foreman was “considered the most destructive puncher in the history of boxing.” For me it sounded ridiculous, because Mike Tyson was the most destructive puncher I saw with my two adolescent eyes.
Foreman took off his robe and met Holyfield in the middle of the ring, his 42-year-old body clearly contrasted the carved Adonis, which stood opposite him. I grew up with a charmed professional, so I was a very “body guy” and the foreman did not look like Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan or “Macho Man” by Randy Savage. Foreman was a bit round and fluffy. He looked like he didn’t belong to the same ring as Holyfield. In wrestling conditions he looked like “Jobber” – a guy routinely sent to “Squash matches”, so that the talent of the main event looks great. Tyson beat a lot of work. Foreman looked like a boxer Tyson would send in the first round.
“This guy?” I asked again before the fight began.
The foreman would lose by a unanimous decision, but he was badly shaken by Holyfield in a fantastic seventh round, in which both warriors consume a huge punishment. That night, television commentators survived Foreman’s performance and routinely talked about the earlier version of the boxer, the one who fought with Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. This confused me, because Ali and Frazier were legends that I heard about and saw on VHS tape recordings. They were vintage now. They fought with a foreman?
In hip-hop music, sampling contains part of the existing sound recording in a up-to-date song. The sound is familiar, but has been changed in some way to exist in the present day. As someone who grew up on hip-hop, the gate was to meet artists from the past. “Electric Relaxation” of the “Electric Relaxation” tribe was presented to me by “Mystic Brew” by Ronnie Foster, “Doggy Dogg World” Snoop Dogga opened me to the “Summer Madness” gang and what is the hip-hop artist without the “funky drummer james brown” sample?
The Foreman version I watched, taking place with Holyfield, was a sample and I decided to find the original.
And what I found surprised my mind.
I am not entirely sure how I found vintage Foreman material, but I was surprised by this slim version that had a full head of hair and absolutely destroyed his opposition. Observing his two -bone Ten Joe Frazier in the first fight in 1973 made me admiration in the way the Clubged Frazier brigadist on canvas six times in less than six minutes to the notable call of Howard Cosell: “Down Goes Frazier!”
And then I saw “rumbling in the jungle”.
I was embarrassed by how Ali allowed Foreman to constantly hit him for seven rounds, then I turned the tables and they were notable for “Substantial George” in the eighth round of their epic clash of 1974. It occurred to me that I saw Foreman at the wrong end of this attraction Ali, but my adolescent brain could not connect the present with the past.
Another sample. Another version of the warrior who was remembered and worshiped in various eras. Until now, I was fascinated by the life of a foreman. I would not say that he was my favorite warrior, but he aroused my curiosity and served as a bridge between the past and the present. Although he lost to Holyfield, he forced me to think about what it means to be “vintage” in boxing and life. I looked at my father. People at the age of 40 were not destroyed and on the threshold of death. There was so much life to life as long as you were devoted to your fullness.
Foreman was devoted to life and creating a up-to-date chapter of his life.
Quickly forward until November 5, 1994 I was now a teenager and a devoted box of boxing. Foreman just lost to the rising star Tommy Morrison and I was surprised when he was announced an opponent of heavyweight master Michael Moorerer. Foreman was approaching the age of 46 and did nothing to justify the fight against the undefeated warrior 19 years of his junior. I assumed that it was a time when Foreman would “performed”, being a popular Moorer, could put his CV to raise his star power. In terms of wrestling, the vintage man “put Moorer”.
Everything that had to be done became a second man who knocked out the foreman, but Foreman was able to push the left stab through the relaxed guard Moore and follow the right hand that caused the master in a stack.
“It happened! It happened!” Commentator Jim Lampley shouted in disbelief.
Foreman proved that “age is nothing but”, he was more than a song of the deceased Aaliyah Haughton. He opposed his chances and would not let his father laugh.
Foreman fought four more times after this historic night and put down the gloves for good when he lost most of Shannon Briggs in 1997. Foreman was only a few weeks after his 49th birthday, but he was already in the process of discovering himself as an entrepreneur and a businessman with a charming smile and a product that got a lot of adolescent adults.
George Foreman Grill.
Yes, he too. And for many unspecified fans he will be remembered more as a grill guy than a risky boxer.
In a sense, what Foreman achieved over 30 years ago made the NBA star Lebron James still do in his amazing season 40 years, because the template was set.
Again again. Opposing the opportunities. Overcoming the father’s time. And he did it with a smile.
For me, George Foreman will always be remembered as “this guy.”

Vasiliy Lomachenko announced a pension from boxing at the age of 37.
The Ukrainian sensation leaves the fifteenth career as probably the greatest amateur in history, and then the Three-Division World Champion after moving to the ranks of Pro.
“I am grateful for every victory and every failure, both in the ring and in life,” said Lomachenko in Video published on social media Thursday. “I am grateful that when my career is coming to an end, I gained clarity about the direction in which a person must take to achieve a real victory, not only in the ring.”
Lomachenko’s decision appears just over a year after his last fight, the 11th round of the former undisputed airy champion George Cambosos Jr. on the Arena in Perth, Australia. Preliminary talks about the hit with Gervont “Tank” Davis took place. The fight was never realized because, according to the Lomachenko manager, Egis Klimas, his warrior “had no motivation” and took the rest of 2024 to think about his future. As it turns out, his future will be a departure from sport.
“It was an honor for all of us in the best rank to promote Vasiliy Lomachenko’s pro -boxing career,” said Lomachenko, for many years, for many years in the boxeria boxeria Top Rank boxeria. “He was a generational champion and we will all miss his participation in sport.”
As an amateur, Lomachenko gathered a stunning 396-1 record, winning gold Olympic medals for his hometown of Ukraine in Beijing in 2008 and the Olympic Games in London in 2012. He decided to turn with a professional and signed a contract with the best promotions, debuting on October 12, 2013, beating Jose Ramirez by the fourth round knockout. Instead of slowly moved, Lomachenko fell into the title of World Champion in his second fight, against Master WBO WBO WBATEGHT WBO Orlando Salido. Lomachenko did not take place to become the first warrior who won the world champion in his second pro -fight when he abandoned his decision about demanding human. However, he would make his second attempt in the title of the world, defeating Gary Russell Jr. In his third professional fight to win the empty WBO championships on June 21, 2014.
“Hi-tech” created three successful title defense before he jumped to Junior Lightweight and took Roman Martinez for the title of WBO in 2016 and passing through the division, defending dominant against Nicholas Walters, Jason Sosie and Miguel Marriaga before the meeting Guillermo Rigondeaux Rigondeaux, with Nicholas, in the highly expected 2017. Lomachenko forced Rigondeaux to retire on a stool between rounds, the fourth in a row of the opponent, with whom he did to keep the title.
As a lasting stall at the top of pound rankings for pounds, Lomachenko moved another weight class and challenged Jorge Linares with a airy WBO title in 2018 and won by knockout in the tenth round. Lomachenko united the titles in a slight win against Jose Pedraza, Anthony Croll and Luke Campbell, but suffered a second career defeat when he faced Teofimo Lopez in 2020. Lomachenko would return to his winning path and won three more fights. Cambosos and ending his excellent career with a record of 18-3, 12 KO.
“You have always stood with me for my family. You shared in my victories and felt the pain of my losses. These losses are only more strongly,” said Lomachenko. “I would be underestimated not to thank you, my dear boxing fans from around the world. You have always supported me with passion through my most unforgettable fights.”

The main card starts at 13:30 ET live in Dazn, and walks with the Ring of the Main Event are expected around 16:30 ET.
Nelson Hysa def. Patrick Korte – KO2
Total mismatch. Hysa sentenced the corta from the opening bell, landing hefty hooks and tearing her head with each neat shot. Kortte knee for the first time after eating a pair of brutal right hands, and then barely survived the round. Hysa returned and finished work in the second – another knocking out, another dam, and the corta was completed. No response, without resistance, only one -sided beating.
Billy Adams Def. Alexander Morales-Punkty (40-36)
Adams boxed around Morales and did not lose a second. Delicate left on his feet, mixed the levels and cleaned his shots. Morales tried to close the gap, but he never put a glove on it. It was a routine, clinical and exactly what a potential potential customer should do. Nothing flashy – only four rounds of pure control.
Sam Gilley vs. Gideon onyenani-Draw (76-76)
Gilley could not cope with the pressure and looked lost in the trenches. Onyenani took him inside, turned him into a fight on a telephone boat and never let him comfortably. Gilley tried to hurt, but persecuted in survival mode. Ugly fight, truthful result?
UMAR Khan def. Moises Garcia-One-Wykna Decision (79–72)
Khan boxed well, but he looked like he was a sparring and he didn’t fight. Brisk combinations flashed, and then pierced long sections without urgency. Garcia had no answers, but he never looked close to folding. It was one-sided-and still forgotten.
Jack Williams Def. Fernando Joaquin Valdez-Punkty (40-36)
Uncomplicated work for Williams, who barely left the second equipment. He remained patient, keen and true against the guy with one win in seventeen attempts. Valdez consumed blows, but he was not a real threat. Williams drove through all four rounds, barely touched and pierced the neat sweeping without sweat.
Lillie Winch def. Katerina Dvorakova-one-like decision (60-54)
Winch kept him neat, keen and all companies from the opening bell. She bitten, turned and closed Dvorakov, without taking risks. The Czech warrior tried to force a fight, but he never passed the front door. Pure control – each round, every second.
