Preston, Ramirez to rematch next Thursday – World Boxing Association

Michelle Preston and Maribel Ramirez will enter the ring at the ABA Stadium in Auckland, Australia on Thursday, July 18 for their rematch for the WBA super flyweight world title.

The fight between the Australian and Mexican will be a great opportunity for both women who are looking for a novel chance. They fought in March of last year, with Ramirez winning.

Preston comes into the fight riding on two straight wins over Arisara Wisetwongsa in March of last year and Sawanya Srisawat in December 2023. It’s a great run for the domestic fighter, who will utilize the motivation of playing in front of a home crowd to claim victory.

Ramirez is a former world champion fighter who will try to repeat Preston’s success this time around. Her last fight took place on December 15, 2023, and ended in a technical draw with Celeste Gonzalez.

The hosts have 13 wins, 10 losses and 1 draw, while the visitors have recorded 14 wins, 10 losses and 4 draws.

Miranda returns to the ring for interim featherweight title – World Boxing Association

Spanish boxer Jennifer Miranda (11-0, 1KO) will return to the ring on October 20 to fight for the interim WBA featherweight world title against Panamanian Teresa Almengor (9-1 -3, 4KO) at the Teatro Las Vegas in Madrid, Spain.

“For me, it’s a dream come true to step into the ring for such an essential title because I feel closer to my large goal, which I’ve been preparing for my entire career,” said the current WBA Gold world champion from Las Vegas, United States, where she traveled in mid-August to prepare for this fight.

Almegor is training in Panama and is cheerful with the opportunity that is given to her, so she is ready to give it her all in the ring.

The event, organised by Spanish promoter The Boxer Club, will be called Road To The World and will feature amateur boxers, which is part of the systematic development of boxing promoted by the WBA.

Both Miranda and his team are expecting a great reception from the audience on October 20.

Cecilia Comunales, the first woman to train at Teiken – World Boxing Association

Former Uruguayan boxer Cecila “La Reina” Comunales became the first woman to train at the Teiken Promotion gym in Tokyo, Japan. The former World Boxing Association (WBA) world champion took advantage of the trip to the land of the rising sun and on Monday, September 9, trained under the supervision of trainer Carlos Linares, brother of former world champion Jorge Linares, along with other fighters from the gym.

“It was a unique experience to train in one of the most critical places in Japanese and world boxing. It is an honor for me to be the first woman to train in this gym and I am sure that more boxers will come soon as women’s boxing grows worldwide,” Comunales said, adding: “I would also like to thank Mr. Akihiko Honda for giving me this experience and Carlos Linares for guiding my training, keeping me connected to boxing is one of the coolest things I can do in my retirement.

During her trip to the Japanese capital, Comunales took the opportunity to attend the Naoya Inoue fight, as well as other boxing nights and visits with the commission. Part of her intentions on the trip is to learn the country’s training method, to apply it to her daily life and, why not, to start a coaching career, using her experience in the ring that led her to become WBA world champion.

Spencer crowned in Montreal – World Boxing Association

Mary Spencer became the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over Naomi Mannes on Thursday at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada.

The judges scored the bout 96-93, 96-93 and 96-93, all identical in favour of the home competitor, who claimed a stunning victory and defended her black and gold crown.

The Canadian didn’t have an uncomplicated challenge, but she was able to impose herself with her tools and decipher the complicated opponent, to finally win on the scorecards. The German gave it her all in the ring and tried to hurt the local competitor, but ultimately she didn’t succeed.

With the win, the 39-year-old now has nine wins in her career, along with two losses and six knockouts. Mannes, on the other hand, has a record of seven wins, three losses, one draw and four knockouts.
