Mike Tyson will undergo another round of tough medical examinations ahead of his rescheduled fight with Jake Paul. The boxing icon, known as “Iron Mike”, was scheduled to face the social media sensation next month, but the fight was postponed to November 15 due to health problems Tyson suffered during the flight.
Despite the delay, the controversial professional match will take place under the same rules at the original stadium, AT&T Stadium in Texas. Tela Mange, director of communications for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, told World Boxing News that Tyson continues to be closely monitored following the stomach ulcer incident.
“At this point, the fight remains an eight-rounder over two-minute rounds with 14-ounce gloves,” he stated. Mange previously mentioned that in order to participate in the fight, Tyson must obtain positive electroencephalogram (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) results.
“As I think I’ve already said, the Department will remain updated on the health of combat participants and will obtain more information as needed to protect their health and safety,” he added. He further explained that in addition to pre-licensing medical examinations, TDLR ring doctors also conduct pre-fight examinations before an event.
Under TDLR regulations, a license does not automatically allow a person to participate in an event if their health or safety could be at risk. The Texas commission promised to permanently cancel the fight if Tyson had further stomach problems.
The former undisputed heavyweight champion will be 58 when he steps into the ring, while Paul will be just 27, marking the largest age difference in professional boxing history. “Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training soon,” Tyson recently announced.
“I am grateful to the medical staff who treated me, as well as MVP, Netflix and AT&T Stadium for working diligently to find the best rescheduled date for all parties. Even though we have a modern date, the outcome will be the same no matter when we set it. fight Jake Paul gets knocked out.”
Paul says the fight with the boxing icon was a long one and that they were provoking each other for some time. “We’ve been calling each other for years and we finally made it happen on Netflix, the biggest platform in the world, and it just keeps getting bigger and better” – The Problem Child.
“A joint event [Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano]…I mean, that’s literally the story we’re looking at here. Mike wanted this. Mike wanted it to be a professional fight.
“He wants war and that’s why I respect that. I respect him for taking this fight, for trying to put an end to me, because that’s what all these fighters were trying to do, was end the YouTuber, and if Mike can do that, then he’ll be a hero.”
