Lucas Bahdi ready to test his skills against Ashton Sylve

Published

on

As lightweight boxer Lucas Bahdi quietly prepared for the biggest fight of his career against Ashton Sylve on Saturday at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, he was brief in his assessment of the fight.

Canadian Bahdii (16-0, 14 KOs), 30, a decorated amateur, has been dynamic, waiting for his huge break. Sylve (11-0, 9 KOs), 21, of Long Beach, California, will emerge as a significant contender, having previously been scheduled to fight undefeated prospect Floyd Schofield. Asked about the potential impact of age on the fight, Badhi was succinct.

“We’ll find out on Saturday night,” Bahdi said during Wednesday’s media training.

Bahdi enters the fight on a three-fight winning streak, mostly against rising competition, which contrasts Sylve’s recent wins over seasoned contenders like Estivan Falcao and William Silva. Bahdi’s most recent win came over veteran Jose Luis Rodriguez in a four-round bout in June.

The fight raises questions about Bahdi’s ability, especially considering Sylve’s sturdy amateur background and his current form as a Class A boxer.

“It’s his toughest fight, my toughest fight,” Bahdi said. “So it’s going to be a great fight between two undefeated boxers.”

Bahdi’s pre-fight demeanor was reminiscent of Bernie from the 2003 film “The Cooler,” who is known for bringing bad luck to gamblers who have a winning streak. Unlike the flamboyant personalities who headlined the event, Bahdi remained reserved.

“I am grateful for this opportunity,” Bahdi said. “It is an opportunity I have been waiting for for a long time.”

World Boxing is adding eight more federations to strengthen its Olympic offering

World Boxing has approved applications from eight more national federations to accept membership in 68 countries.

The up-to-date entries, which have been approved by the World Boxing Board, come from the National Boxing Federations of France, Croatia, Poland, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Turkmenistan and Samoa, which are represented by Independent Boxing Samoa.

All eight up-to-date national federations have undergone a tough application process to join World Boxing. They are deemed to be in good standing and, through their statute and operational processes, able to demonstrate:

• A clear and open election process for appointments to management positions

• The existence and operation of WADA-recognized anti-doping policies and processes

• Evidence of a structured dispute resolution and appeals process that is either fully independent or subject to external input

• Formal recognition by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) or the Ministry of Sports

• Stalwart national and international boxing sports program

World Boxing president Boris van der Vorst said: “The addition of eight more national federations to our ever-growing membership is another significant step for World Boxing and further evidence of broad support across the sport for our work to ensure boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic movement.

“It is clear that boxing will only be on the LA2028 program if national federations support World Boxing and I invite all boxing leaders who care about the future of the sport, and their boxers, to apply for membership of our organization as we continue to grow and We are growing stronger.”

World Boxing was founded in April 2023 and is committed to ensuring that boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic movement.

The first formal meeting with the IOC took place on May 7, 2024, signaling the start of cooperation to establish a path for boxing to remain in the Olympics.

On September 26, 2024, World Boxing announced that it had established an Olympic Commission, chaired by the President of the Kazakhstan National Olympic Committee, Gennady Golovkin, to support and assist in the process of developing a path to ensure the return of boxing to the Games.

DAZN injected cash amid losses and ties to Saudi Arabia

Published

DAZN Boxing

DAZN owner Sir Leonard Blavatnik has injected $827 million in cash into DAZN following losses the company has incurred over two financial years.

Following the merger with Matchoom Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions, Blavatnik continues to provide a boxing-related service.

According to the Financial Times, Blavatnik “wants the London-based company to become the ‘Spotify of sports’ and is open to further partnerships with Saudi Arabia.” Since launching in the United States six years ago, Blavatnik has invested nearly $7 billion in the streaming service. However, the company has yet to turn a profit as boxing fans continue to be discouraged by endless pay-per-view viewing and additional fees.

When DAZN first targeted the boxing audience, it promised to destroy PPVs, but soon after entered the market regularly. The Financial Times.which says it has seen the reports, says this pullback contributed to a half-billion augment in turnover in 2022-23 despite losses increasing from $1.2 billion to $1.4 billion.

However, the FT found that “most of the top ten markets in which DAZN operated were currently profitable.”

DAZN executives announce that after concluding several expansion agreements, revenues will augment to $6 billion by 2025.

CEO Shay Segev says: “We see a clear path to create tremendous shareholder value. We will be the global home of sports. If you are a sports fan anywhere in the world, you will definitely be familiar with DAZN.”

With 20 million subscribers, DAZN is far from competing with Netflix, which has over 250 million. However, he has recently become a major player in boxing with the addition of Turki Alalshikh. Reports suggested that Alalshikh is interested in purchasing a stake in DAZN as he has already acquired Ring Magazine.

Converting some of its supposed 300 million monthly users into paying subscribers would be the first step toward covering nearly $10 billion in future rights obligations.

Looking at social media, especially in the boxing circles where WBN operates, it is obvious that DAZN has a long way to go in terms of its reputation among fans.

The broadcast and broadcast quality has often been questioned, and the PPV situation continues to irritate the community.

Jaron Ennis vs Eimantas Stanionis

IBF and WBA welterweight masters Jaron Ennis and Eimantas Stanionis placed their title stripes on the line to get a hit unification.

“Shoes” and the Lithuanian strike agreed to meet on April 12 in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City after Ennis rejected the fight with Vergil Ortiz.

Ennis, which is 33-0 from 29 KO, will remain at the level of 147 pounds to become undisputed before moving to 154. Ortiz fight may occur in the future, but is suspended. Ennis makes a third defense under Eddie Hearna after the victories over David Avanesian, and recently the mandatory contender Karen Chukhadzhian in November.

The fight came out of blue after Stanionis published a statement with the request of one of his masters for acceleration. Ennis accepted, and fans can expect an electrifying battle this spring.

Stanionis, which has a 15-0, 9 KO record, was associated with the fight with Manna Pacquiao. At the end of last year, WBN told him that he would be interested in facing Hall of Famer.

“In the face of Manna Pacquiao is a nice fantasy fight for me. An opportunity would be a dream come true. Our styles would be a guaranteed war. It would be a great opportunity for a legend to fight for the title again, “only World Boxing News said.

However, the fight did not materialize, and Stanionis aims to build his victory over Gabriel Maestre in May last year. He can’t wait.

“This is, when I imagined my whole life,” said Stanionis excited. “Every victim, every ounce of sweat, everything was for this fight. Jaron “Boots” Ennis is a great warrior, but I’m ready to take him off.

“On April 12 in Atlantic City I will show the world, of which I am created. This union is my chance to prove that I am the king of the welterweight division and there is no way that I would allow this opportunity to get out. This moment is mine! “

Ennis is eagerly waiting for his chance for another lane. He said, “This is the fight I was waiting for. I believe I was created for such moments.

“On April 12 I will make a enormous statement. You will see the best. Time to shine, be great and collect these belts. “

Promoter Eddie Hearn added: “It’s just a brilliant fight. When we signed the shoes, I told him that we would provide him with a union, so it is great to cross it for Jaron and I know that thanks to the greatest fight of his career just before him, he goes to shine brighter than ever.

“Eimantas is a brilliant warrior and this is undoubtedly number one and the other in the division. I could not wish a better fight to promote our first event in the multi -story Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City ” – summed up the head of Matchroom.
