Giovani Santillan has a dance partner in his previously revealed second headline appearance on ESPN’s Emanuel Navarrete vs. Denis Berinchyk on May 18: fellow undefeated rising fighter Brian Norman Jr.
This is both a quick change and an extremely ambitious move for 23-year-old Norman (25-0, 19 KO), who passed Quinton Randall last November and decided on a no-contest against Janelson Bochachica a month ago. Santillan (32-0, 17 KO)’s stock reached an all-time high after his attack on Alexis Rocha last October propelled him to the top of the WBO rankings.
“Brian Norman Jr. he is a very talented newborn fighter,” Santillan said. “I get a lot of motivation from my city and fighting at Pechanga Arena is always special. May 18th is going to be a great night and I can’t wait to bring another victory to my fans.
Norman said: “This is the large fight I’ve been waiting for. It’s time to show the world what I’m about.”
In the opening main card, Olympic silver medalist Richard Torrez Jr (9-0, 9 KO) continues his career farce “against an unspecified opponent.” With just over six weeks left until the match, we can safely assume that this will be another professional sandbag for him to kill.
Emiliano Vargas (9-0, 7 KO), Alan Garcia (12-0, 10 KO) and Art Barrera (4-0, 40 KO) will appear on the ESPN+ card after their victories last weekend. Charlie Sheehy (9-0, 5 KO) vs Manuel Jaimes (15-1-1, 11 KO), Jonathan Lopez (14-0, 10 KO) vs Edgar Ortega (14-2-2, 7 KO) and Jonny Professional Mansour’s debut ends the qualifying round.
