His Excellency Turki Alalshikh revealed today that the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk will take place on December 21.
Fury will receive an additional two months of training as part of his original plans for his rematch with Usyk in October, but that may not make a difference. Usyk (22-0, 14 KO), the undisputed heavyweight champion, showed with his victory on May 18 that he has Fury’s number.
For Fury to have a chance of beating Usyk a second time, he will need to make the following changes:
- Lose weight
- Raise power
- Massacre
- Apply forward pressure
- Stay away from the ropes
Usyk’s potential game plan:
Usyk will study the tape of their fight and will probably stand his ground more often and throw combinations.
Fury was defeated when Usyk came in from mid-to-close range and machine-gunned him with a combination. We all saw how the referee saved Fury from being knocked out in the ninth throw.
The referee working on the rematch will not want to put himself in a position where he also saves Fury, which is criticized by the boxing world.
Expert opinions:
“Usyk’s body structure, the pressure from Usyk and the mental pressure weakened Tyson,” boxing expert Chris Algieri said in an interview Probox TV about why Fury lost to Usyk.
“He never went into second gear where he was going to put the weight on you to get physical with you. Make it ugly. Grab the head in an upper cut. This is the style he needs to exploit to be successful in this fight.”
“To do that, he has to play harder, and by doing that he risks making his condition worse,” Paulie Malignaggi said of Fury.
“He worked too challenging in the first fight,” Algieri said of Furia. “I think Tyson should move on from Wilder II. It comes down to the fitness aspect. It takes a lot of work to be a talker,” Algieri said on why Fury didn’t land many punches on Usyk.
“Tyson Fury chose to be a talkative and moving man and fought on the back foot for most of this fight. Not to mention he was hit with body shots throughout the fight. He got tired behind schedule and kind of got away from that acute jab.
“Usyk hits challenging. He got into Tyson’s range and hit him with a challenging jab. He was technically attacking him from mid-range.
“Usyk was the biggest influence in the fight and I think he was robbed by the ninth-round knockout. We all saw that the referee gave the gypsy king another gift,” said Deontay Wilder iFL Televisiontalking about Oleksandr Usyk’s victory over Tyson Fury.
