Eddie Hearn turned red following Daniel Dubois’ comments following the collapse of Anthony Joshua’s fight

Published

on

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn saw his plans for Anthony Joshua’s future dashed after Daniel Dubois bravely raged at Filip Hrgovic. Hearn’s comments, which he claimed in the hours before the fight that Dubois was “not an elite heavyweight”, were taken back after the Briton stopped Croatian challenger Hrgovic, while a potential fight between Joshua and Deontay Wilder also appears to be off the table at the moment.

The Bronze Bomber suffered his fourth defeat in five fights following a one-sided fifth-round knockout at the hands of Zhilei Zhang. The two teams argued as Queensberry Promotions cleaned house during Saturday’s 5v5 tournament against Matchroom Sport, forcing Hearn to make a major change to his immediate plans for Joshua.

During his appearance on True Geordie Podcastthe Matchroom boss said: “I thought to myself: ‘Who are we going to make captain? Who is the biggest character on the team? Who will take last place? Who can bring us drama like no one else? Who can piece together this narrative? Moreover, Wilder is not only on the team, but is its captain.

“Because I have to pump up Wilder, you know? Because in this game you can get discouraged very quickly – well, even in life. Suddenly you don’t think you’re the right man anymore. at him, I turn it up and make him that bad motherfucker again. I want him to go in there and knock out Zhilei Zhang for double points, maybe even from behind and win the whole thing. Tournament.”

In fact, quite the opposite materialized in Riyad as the Queensberry clan outscored the Hearn’s Matchroom crowd 10-0. Zhang, Dubois and Hamzah Sheeraz played key roles in this result as each of them picked up knockout victories to further boost their points tally on the night.

Needless to say, Hearn wasn’t expecting this turn of events, especially with Dubois’ dominant performance against Hrgovic. Hearn’s comments before the fight suggested that this was the only fight in which he was particularly confident in his fighter’s chances, dismissing Dubois as a top-class talent in his assessment.

“People talked about Hrgovic as an elite heavyweight,” he said. “But the biggest victory of his career is the Zhang fight, which could have ended either way. His mother died a few weeks earlier – I don’t think he was 100% – but he looks up to Dubois.

“He just beat Jarrell Miller – decently. Fought [Oleksandr] Usyk and finished him off in the margin [low blow]. It could have gone differently and he defeated Oleksandr Usyk. He boxed Joe Joyce. He’s been here before, Dubois. But I think Hrgovic is an elite heavyweight, unlike Dubois.”

Consider this another piece of Hearn analysis gone wrong as Dubois left Hrgovic a bloody mess to win the interim IBF title. The referee waved the fight off and ended the fight with Hrgovic on his stool, starting the eighth round, marking the biggest victory of Dynamite’s career to that point and possibly changing Hearn’s perception of his talents in the process.

The promoter then added that the winner of the match between Hrgovic and Dubois is likely to face Joshua for the vacant IBF title in September. He added the caveat that AJ could fight Wilder if he performed well against Zhang, although his indigent performance means the fighter also looks dead in the water.

“If Deontay Wilder knocks out Zhilei Zhang and his excellency says, ‘This fight is back,'” Hearn added in remarks that have become very ancient. “Don’t forget that this fight has been signed. We were supposed to announce this fight in the ring on December 23. If he looks great against Zhang, the whole world will be calling for Wilder to fight Joshua again. And we can do it at Wembley.”

With fights against Wilder and Hrgovic no longer on the cards, AJ will likely face Dubois in the Battle of Britain, although Zhang is hopeful he too will be able to fight Hearn’s star.

Micah Richards wants to fight Mike Tyson after Jake Paul after Thierry Henry issues warning

Published

Former Manchester City star Micah Richards has bizarrely thrown his hat into the ring to become the next star to turn his hand to boxing.

Several stars have joined the ring over the past few years, with former Leicester City defender Danny Simpson and countless TikTok influencers getting involved with Misfits Boxing – the company founded by YouTuber-turned-celebrity KSI.

Wayne Rooney and Luke Littler have previously joked that they wouldn’t mind joining the ever-growing line-up in the future, and reports claimed that a fight between TV personality Joey Essex and Tommy Fury, Tyson’s brother, was likely.

With the rise of impact boxing showing no signs of slowing down, pundit Richards joked that he wouldn’t turn down an invitation to fight – although he’s set the bar quite high due to his lack of experience.

The former Aston Villa captain recently boxed former player Malik Scott, who married Richards’ CBS Sport colleague Kate Abdo earlier this year. Footage of the 36-year-old on the pads was then broadcast earlier this week and his combinations did earn him some praise.

Commenting on the clip, Abdo said: “Very nippy. Misfit boxing? Celebrity fight, will it be a challenge for you? Do we have a disagreement with someone we can make an appointment with? Let’s make some money.”

Richards then replied: “Jake Paul fights Mike Tyson, right? So I’m next. They call me Iron Mike Jr.” The response was met with laughter in the studio, although Thierry Henry chimed in to warn his colleague not to bite off more than he can chew.

The Frenchman said, “Be careful what you wish for.”

Conor McGregor has insisted that Anthony Joshua should face Daniel Dubois again following his fifth-round knockout defeat last month.

McGregor was at ringside when Dubois dismantled Joshua defended the IBF world heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium in front of a record crowd of 96,000.

There is no rematch clause in the contract, but Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren has said publicly that they would be open to a reunion with “AJ.”

A rematch is apparently the preferred option for Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh, who organized the event and was pictured with Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn Lately.

UFC star McGregor believes the Watford fighter should go straight back for his second fight with “Dynamite” and believes he should change his tactics to win this time.

“Make no mistake, I think what should happen next between Joshua and Dubois will be a rematch,” the Irishman said.

“And stay on the ground. Don’t even go forward, don’t even go back. Stand your ground and meet up.

“Joshua has a good, robust jab.

“He almost came back and really hurt him with it before he got caught with the shot.

“This is a live fight between two very competitive fighters who just gave us all a show in front of 96,000 fans on behalf of Riyadh Season and Turki Alalshikh.

“Do it again. Really, do it again.

McGregor is being linked with a sensational return to boxing against four-weight world champion Terence Crawford.

The 36-year-old has only had one professional boxing fight, stopped by Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2017 in the second highest-grossing fight of all time.

Crawford was reportedly offered a contract for two fights with the UFC world champion in two weight classes, one boxing fight and one MMA fight, although “Bud” revealed that he turned down the offer.

“I told Conor, ‘Hell no,'” Crawford said in an interview with Bernie Tha Boxer on YouTube.

“They called me and offered me the fight, and me and Conor called and started getting political to figure something out.

“I told him, ‘Man, I’m not getting in any f**king octagon with you so you can kick me and elbow me and f**k me.’

“He started laughing and said, ‘Man, I respect that. You respect my sport as much as I respect your sport and you understand that if you get into the Octagon you will be at a disadvantage. Just like if I get into a boxing ring with you, I will be at a disadvantage.”

“But he said, ‘We’re going to make a hell of a lot of money.’

“I said, ‘Yeah, sometimes it’s not about the money, I can make it, but you’re not going to kick me, man.’

“Kicks and elbows, dude, this is not a joke.”

Jake Paul sent a brutal five-word message to Mike Tyson ahead of his boxing match

Published

on

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul has been given a stern warning ahead of his highly anticipated clash with boxing icon and former world champion Mike Tyson later this year. He was told that if the fight took place today, “Jake Paul would be finished.”

The two fighters were originally scheduled to face each other in July, but Tyson had to withdraw due to an inflamed ulcer, which caused him to stop training on doctor’s advice. However, the legendary boxer has returned to training and is confident that he will be ready to fight next month.

The rescheduled megafight is now scheduled for Friday, November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will potentially draw 90,000 spectators. Tyson last fought professionally in 2005, losing to Kevin McBride, and his last appearance was in a closed-door exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr in 2020.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Paul secured a victory over former UFC fighter Mike Perry in July.

Pre-fight banter has escalated within Tyson’s camp, resulting in a promotional video in which a team member declares, “We’re not just going to drop one bombshell. We want to throw bullet after bullet.”

Tyson’s corner trainer warned that Paul would be in stern trouble if the fight were to happen immediately, stating, “If the fight was today, Jake Paul would be over,” adding that Tyson was not just launching isolated attacks, but unleashing an unrelenting onslaught .

Concerns about Tyson’s condition have increased following his recent admission: “It’s difficult to walk right now. But in two months I will be perfect. The fight is won in the gym. Look, I’ll do anything to assist. I’m going to have a good time here today with all my childhood friends and, damn it, Jake Paul.

On Jimmy Kimmel’s show, “Iron Mike” revealed his stringent training regime, saying: “I train extremely difficult, six hours a day. I start at 11 a.m. and can leave the gym at 5 p.m.,” Kimmel asked, surprised: “Oh no. 11:00? So is it six hours straight or is there a lunch break? Tyson confirmed the compact break, leaving Kimmel stunned and exclaiming, “Oh no.”

Adding to the controversy is the fact that Tyson could risk a suspension from competition if he tests positive for a banned substance, admitting he may operate marijuana before the fight. In the same interview with Kimmel, when asked if he would be high during the fight, Tyson replied: “I will be high in life, yes.”

Thinking further, Kimmel asked, “Are you going to get high on marijuana, too?” To which Tyson admitted, “That’s a possibility, too.”

This revelation prompted Kimmel to joke, “Oh no, my bet is getting smaller as we talk.”

Tyson’s controversial claims that he planned to smoke marijuana before his fight with “The Problem Child” raised questions about the seriousness of his intentions. Any such action can lead to stern consequences because the Texas Commission prohibits the operate of such substances.

If Tyson or another fighter tested positive, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) warns: “If either fighter tested positive for a banned substance, we would file a complaint, suspend him for 90 days, and if the fighter was victorious, the decision would be reversed.” to a non-decision due to a violation of the rules.”
