Here’s what players had to say Thursday at the Brewery X Biergarten Patio at Honda Center:
NATE DIAZ
“I came here to give myself a break and do my thing. I hope you all watch!
“I feel like I’ve had enough of this (all this). I’m ready to fight. I’m ready for the show to continue.
He better hope to get a knockout. If not, something (damaged) him.”
JORGE MASVIDAL
“I’m ready to get out there on July 6, take care of business, knock this (guy) out and relax with my family. Let’s get to it!
“In the end, all that matters is that I’m in shape and, as I said before, it’s not up to the judges. And not because of a cut or anything, but because of a immaculate KO. That’s why I train.
“I have more time to hone my craft, become smarter at boxing and work every day to become a little better, smarter and more effective. All this just means more violence on July 6. On July 4th, come celebrate the United States’ birthday, and on July 6th, come and see how I end it.
“I’m mean. I’m faster. I’m more temperamental. When it comes down to it, I think I have the best hands in MMA. On July 6, I will be able to prove it. No questions, nothing. We’ll see. There’s no jiu-jitsu (that sort of thing), no hugging, just straight hands.
DANIEL JACOBS
“I’m just content to be a part of this card with so many heroes and so many rising future stars. It’s an honor and a privilege. Come to fight night and see why this is such an critical card.
“I’m fighting guys like Shane Mosley Jr., who is an up-and-coming guy and a very talented guy. I can’t wait to show you, with all my experience, why they call me “Wonder Man.” I took a break for two years and now I have taken the time to get my mind, body and spirit back intact. You’ll see the results on fight night. I appreciate all the love, but you will see the return of the Miracle Man.
“I knew I wanted to end my career with a bang. This marks the next step towards earning a Hall of Fame plaque.
“I have been a fan of Shane Mosely Sr. my entire career. I saw his son fight, but when you talk about levels and what I bring to the table, obviously I see myself as the winner in whatever way and however that victory comes. It will be an honor to step into the ring with the son of a legend, but he will stop there because he is not his dad.
“I know exactly what I did and what works. I know what my team is working on… I just want to say that I can’t wait for July 6th and the West Coast is sure to be eventful!”
SHANE MOSLEY JR.
“Like everyone said, it’s going to be an amazing gala and an amazing evening. Please don’t miss this. I’m blessed to be able to fight a legend on this card. This man is a two-time middleweight champion. Most people can’t become champion, and he became champion twice. I’m excited to be a part of this event.
“He is definitely the best fighter I have ever fought in the ring. Nothing but respect. I need to raise my game. I have to be better. To get better, you have to put yourself in these situations. Adversity shows a person to himself, so that’s what I do and this is my chance.
“Whatever happens, it will make me better. My goal is also to become a legend. If that’s my goal, I need to get there with another legend. So when they said you could fight Daniel Jacobs, I said, ‘Wow, yes!’ Absolutely, of course.”
AMADO VARGAS
“I practiced like hell. My dad is putting me through stringent training and I can’t wait. You’ll see the improvement from the beginning of my career to where I am now, and I can’t wait. Watch July 6 on Fanmio PPV. Let’s go!
“I’m a competitor. He is a competitor. He wants to win. I want to win. In the end, there can only be one winner and that will be me. I trained really demanding and I’m sure I’m giving my all. As I said, you will see a different me, more skillful and timely. I just can’t wait. My dads give me great sparring and I’m ready for this fight.
“Any man who puts on a pair of boxing gloves has a chance. So I’m preparing as if I were going to fight Mike Tyson. After all, I have to be well prepared. My father and my team take care of that. I’m going to put on one hell of a show on July 6th. Thank you to the fans and everyone who is here. Watch me go 11-0!”
DEVIN CUSHING
“I’m ready to put on a show. I’ll kick his ass on July 6th. All this talk, you won’t do anything. I know not everyone knows my name, but come July 6 and I promise you won’t forget it. Devin Cushing, remember this because I’m coming to steal the show.
“Three grand and a soda, that’s what he gets. I’ll kick his ass. I’m going to beat him up. I’m going to drown him. I’m going to knock him out.”
MANUEL CORREA
“This is a huge opportunity for me. I’m ready to get up and do what I do for my hometown. I hear him say a lot of crazy things, but you have to stick to it. You have to show it to us. We’ll see. He hasn’t fought anyone yet. He fought a bunch of bums and he feels like himself. But you saw who I fought. I’ve fought Olympians with less than 10 fights under my belt. That’s why I’m not afraid to fight anyone. I’ve been like this all my life, and now he’s going to find out the demanding way.
“Everything was fine there. He was being genial and then he came here trying to be in front of the cameras. You know how they play, but we’ll show him.
“Fans can expect fireworks. I always come forward. If you look at any of my fights, I push for action no matter what. Win or lose, I’m moving forward.”
CHRIS AVILA
“I’m here and I’m doing my thing now. I intend to keep the good streak going and keep jumping. I’m training demanding and I’m here to represent the team and raise my hand.
“I know he’s playing, but I’m playing too. I really box and have been boxing for a while. So I train for real and I train boxing. I’m going to knock this fool out too.
ANTHONY PETTIS
“It’s a great opportunity on this card with all these fighters, some of the legends I grew up with. California, I know you are here and supporting us. Chris, I appreciate you taking this fight, we will have a good fight.
“I have sparred with the best boxers in the world to prepare for my MMA championship fights and it shows. My first fight was against Roy Jones Jr., so I couldn’t just go out and knock him out. He’s a much bigger guy than me. Avila is more my size so I can go out there and knock him out and that’s what we train for.
“I think this extra month gave me more motivation. We’re both ready to go. We were ready to go last weekend. So this extra month just adds more motivation to get a knockout on both ends. So count on a good fight from both of us.”

“‘The best versus the best’ is Golden Boy’s mantra and that’s what fans will see as Rocha and Curiel take on everything that’s on the table,” said President and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “Rocha is a veteran whose goal is to win the world title, Curiel is an undefeated blue-chip prospect with huge potential. It’s really a 50/50 fight and I’m looking forward to it.”

“I’ve seen Raul Curiel all these years and he never once mentioned my name,” Alexis Rocha said. “After my last defeat, he suddenly became interested in fighting me. If he thinks I’ve lost a step or somehow had an simple fight, he’s in for a rude awakening. I can’t wait to make a statement and show the world what I’m capable of.”
Santa Ana, California Rep. Alexis “Lex” Rocha comes from a struggling family. The younger brother of Ronny Rios, he was the youngest fighter to win a gold medal at the Junior Olympics at the age of 14 in 2012 and caught the attention of the boxing world by becoming a six-time national champion during his amateur career. Rocha signed with Golden Boy in January 2016 and made his professional debut in March 2016, defeating Jordan Rosario at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. Since then, he has amassed an enviable record of powerful knockouts over top contenders and plans to return to world title contention, with his last fight being a victory over undefeated Santiago Dominguez on July 19 last year.
“The fans can expect a war,” said Raul Curiel. “I’m going to prepare well to put on a great show. This will be the most essential fight of my career so far. I know Alexis is a great fighter, a good opponent and will also show up prepared. My focus is on Alexis and if I can beat him, I know it will give me a chance to fight for the world championship.

George Kambosos moves up to 140, adds Eddie Hearn to team
Published

November 23, 2024Former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos approached promoter Eddie Hearn asking for more massive fights.
Kambosos has signed a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn, under which the Greek-Australian slugger will continue his association with DiBella Entertainment Inc. and his own company, Ferocious Promotions.
The 21-3 star will move up to the super lightweight division of Matchroom Boxing’s lively division. He aims to become a two-weight world champion in early 2025, and as part of the deal, a title fight is promised as long as he continues to win.
Since his stunning victory over Teofimo Lopez, Kambosos has never shied away from competing against the best. Those three losses on his resume came to Devin Haney [twice] and Vasily Lomachenko, all at home and all for world titles.
The 31-year-old is now set to face compatriot Liam Paro after defending his IBF title against Richardson Hitchins in December in Puerto Rico.
“I am thrilled to be working with Matchroom Boxing. I am excited to have signed a three-way promotional cooperation agreement with my long-time promoter DiBella Entertainment Inc. and Ferocious Promotions,” Kambosos said.
“I made great success and history when I moved up the Matchroom shows by winning my UK elimination fight against Lee Selby. The most noteworthy and unforgettable is my victory against Teofimo at Madison Square Garden in Up-to-date York to become the 135-pound world champion.
“I am officially announcing that I will be moving up to 140 pounds and signing with Matchroom will ensure my continued success and the legacy I want to leave in the sport of boxing.”
Hearn, who adds an experienced campaigner to his stable, added: “I am delighted to welcome George to the team. George’s victory over Teofimo tore up the script and showed that George was the man for the massive time. He has proven to be a huge attraction in Australia and one of the real driving forces behind the rapid growth of boxing Down Under.
“The 140-pound division is full of massive names and massive potential fights. Adding George to the mix only elevates the level, and a possible fight with Liam Paro is a truly appetizing prospect. If Liam manages to win in a great fight against Richardson on December 7th [the fight could be on].
Lou DiBella, who has worked with Kambosos for years, said: “I’m glad I was able to make a deal with my antique buddy Eddie to work with George Kambosos Jr. and Ferocious Promotions.
“Throughout his career, George has been a fighter who has never shied away from a challenge, and now he wants to test himself against top junior welterweights.
Matchroom works with top 140-pounders, including George’s compatriot Liam Paro, and, like DiBella Entertainment, is heavily invested in Australia.
“It’s a natural partnership,” added the Up-to-date Yorker.

Mike Tyson had absolutely no chance of knocking out Jake Paul
Published
3 days agoon
November 21, 2024One of the hottest topics surrounding Mike Tyson’s return at the age of 58 was the possibility of the boxing legend scoring a knockout of Jake Paul.
WBN has weighed in on this topic several times, questioning the validity of five-second training clips that revealed nothing about Tyson’s abilities at this overdue age. One of the most intriguing observations during the preparations was the opinion of UFC commentator Daniel Cormier.
Speaking on his show “Funky and the Champ,” Cormier reflected on Tyson’s social media videos and offered an informed opinion on the meaning of the clips.
“I understand that [he is in amazing shape at 58]and I understand what he is saying [he feels as though he can compete]– Cormier said. “And I agree that when he hits the pads with Rafael Cordeiro, it looks like there’s still something left in him.
“But then I watch Jake Paul fight Mike Perry. I saw Jake Paul get overwhelmed to the point where he started to feel uncomfortable. It looked like Mike Perry had a chance. But Jake has a reserve tank he can go to and benefit from because he’s 28 years ancient. Then he comes back and finally finishes Mike Perry.
“At the beginning of the fight, Mike Perry gets beaten up and dropped. He looks trained and unmatched. This worries me because what if it looks like a 58-year-old man fighting a 28-year-old man while Mike can’t employ the backup tank to stay and compete with this newborn kid? I think it’s a failure for Jake Paul because if you beat Mike Tyson, everyone will love him.
He added: “What if Mike knocks him out? It’s over. Everything is ready. This would be the backfire of all time. If he gets knocked out, nothing like that has ever happened in the history of the sport.”
Unfortunately for Tyson, this revenge backfired spectacularly, as the former heavyweight champion’s return was the only event that bombed. Tyson had nothing left twenty years after he had nothing left in his tank and no desire to box in his mind.
Paul parlayed this into a money-making scheme that would forever be a success for him and his company, but would be poorly received by the die-hard boxing fraternity.
Cormier’s words resonate, especially after what happened in the ring when Mike Tyson struggled to shift into first gear, warning former fighters thinking about returning after 50.
