Top Rank promoter Bob Arum spent a few minutes talking to Fight Hype about his reaction to Oscar De La Hoya’s interest in the Top Rank vs. Golden Boy fight and his predictions for the Adrien Broner vs. Blair Cobbs fight tonight on Triller. Check out some of what he had to say below.

Arum on his thoughts on the Golden Boy vs Top Rank card following the recent Matchroom vs Queensbury match

“If it was Oscar and me in the ring, there would be no competition,” Arum joked. “Again, it depends on who the fighters are and who is doing the fighting. This might be a good idea if the couples are really engaging. But it’s the fighters who create the show and the fights that interest people, not the fact that Oscar fighters are fighting our fighters. I think it helps, but it’s kind of irrelevant.

“With all due respect (Matchroom vs Queensbury) it had nothing to do with Warren v Hearn, but there were five good fights and that made the show. I mean, I found every fight engaging and a good fit. The fact that five Queensbury fighters beat five Matchroom marked fighters was, in my opinion, irrelevant. But we had five good fights and that was significant.”

His thoughts on tonight’s fight between Adrien Broner and Blair Cobbs

“I don’t know. I mean, Adrien Broner was a really solid fighter at one point, a great prospect. I thought he was going to be one of the biggest stars in boxing. And then he let his career fall into ruin. So I don’t know what’s left for Adrien Broner.

“And Cobbs, I don’t know what he ever had. So it’s demanding to predict who will win this fight.”

As Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez prepares for his upcoming fight with Juan Francisco Estrada on June 29, he took some time to answer some questions from Fight Hype about what this opportunity means to him and taking this fight a little personally. Check out what he had to say below.

Rodriguez looks to solidify his credibility with a victory over Estrada

“People keep excluding me for some reason. They don’t believe I am who I am, especially Estrada. He’s been discrediting my wins since about 2022, so this fight means a lot to me to prove him wrong, prove the boxing world wrong and fight for another title – all of that put together. I’ll just come with everything.

About whether this fight will be personal for him

“Yes, just because of what he said. I want to prove him wrong, prove his team wrong.”

About being much younger than Estrada and whether that will matter in the fight

“Yes. I’m a lot fresher. I’m only 24. Like you said, he’s maybe 10 years older than me, so he’s been through a lot of wars, it’s probably taken its toll on him, but I’m expecting the best from Estrada. That’s what I’m preparing for.”

During a sparring session with Roman Gonzalez

“It was actually my first sparring with him, but he gave me a bit of confidence. After all, it was just sparring, but it was still a good job. I believe he does some things similar to Estrada, so whenever I was there I was working on the things I was going to do in the fight.”

Kenshiro Teraji plans to move up to flyweight and fight for the vacant WBC title, and Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN reports that Teraji officially requested fight against the sanctioning body.

Teraji currently holds the WBC and WBA junior flyweight titles, and generally speaking, sanctioning bodies allow a champion to step up and fight for another if the need arises.

Teraji (23-1, 14 KO) first won the WBC 108-pound belt in 2017 and held it until a disheartening loss to Masamichi Yabuki in 2021, recording five successful defenses. In March, he regained the belt from Yabuki in a direct rematch. 2022, and less than eight months later he crushed Hiroto Kyoguchi to unify the WBA title.

Since then, the 32-year-old Teraji has defended his unified crown three times, most recently on January 1, 2010 on 23 after a hard-fought victory over Carlos Canizales.

Teraji has fought in the junior flyweight division throughout his career, and turned professional 10 years ago in August this year.

The WBC flyweight title until recently belonged to Julio Cesar Martinez, who at the end of May decided to resign and change weight.

Currently, the top five WBC flyweight contenders are Angel Ayala, Francisco Rodriguez Jr, Cristofer Rosales, Sunlit Edwards and Galal Yafai. Ayala could have fought Teraji, but she was also ordered by the IBF to fight Dave Apolinario for the vacant title.
