Christian Mbilli vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Published
1 month agoon
On Saturday at the Centre Vidrotron in Quebec City, Canada, rising star Christian Mbilli will be in action, while the WBC Continental American middleweight title challenger will defend his WBC North American middleweight title against teakwood tough Sergiy Derevyanchenko over ten rounds.
ESPN and Sky Sports are televising the Mbilli vs Derevyanchenko match, while Bob Arum’s Top Rank is co-promoting the match with local outfit Eye Of The Tiger.
Mbilli (27-0, 23 KOs) won the title back in 2021, and the Frenchman has defended it seven times. After defeating Vaughn Alexander and Carlos Gongora, Mbilli has since racked up three wins on the schedule, beginning with a fourth-round knockout of Demond Nicholson in September 2023.
He then forced Rohan Murdock to retire after six rounds in January, and the 29-year-old warmed up for that round in May by defeating Mark Heffron via first-round knockout.
Derevyanchenko (15-5, 10 KOs) will certainly be the biggest test of Mbili’s career. “The Technician” has a misleading history, having lost five of his last eight fights, but he has nonetheless mixed in elite company. After losing a split decision to Daniel Jacobs in 2018, the Ukrainian has also written his name on the cards for a world title fight with Gennady Golovkin in 2019, and Jermall Charlo in 2020
Derevyanchenko also overturned a majority decision in favor of Carlos Adames in 2021, and in June of last year he presented a blistering argument to Jaime Munguia, but was eliminated in the final round, costing him a draw with the Mexican. The 38-year-old was on the winning side in his last fight, scoring a wide points victory over Vaughn Alexander in April.
Prediction: This will be a real test for Mbili and I think he will endure some tough moments under fire from Derevyanchenko, but I think he will emerge victorious via close decision.
Makhumdov continues his recovery against Vianello
Heavyweight hope Arslanbek Makhmudov has seen his stock plummet following a stunning fourth-round defeat to Agit Kabayel last December and will face Guido Vianello.
Makhmudov (19-1, 18 KOs) did return to winning ways in May, knocking out Miljan Rovcanin in two rounds, but he looks feeble. Vianello (12-2-1, 10 KOs) is coming off a split decision loss to Efe Ajagba.
Prediction: Makhmudov, although defenseless, should have enough strength to beat Vianello on stoppage.
Full Undercard Preview
Osleys Iglesias (11-0, 10 KOs) has heard the final bell only once in 11 fights and should win again early in his super middleweight fight against Sena Agbeko (28-3, 22 KOs).

The vacant WBO International super featherweight title is at stake, and Leila Beaudoin (11-1, 1 KO) could go ten rounds for the first time and win the title with a points victory over former world title challenger Lizbeth Crespo (15-7, 4 KO).
In eight rounds, Jahi Tucker (11-1-1, 5 KOs) should be able to defeat Santiago Fernandez (8-1-1, 4 KOs) in the middleweight and lightweight divisions Abdullah Mason (14-0, 12 KO) could take the earlier route and defeat Mike Ohana Jr (19-2, 9 KO).
Canadian super featherweight prospect Thomas Chabot (10-0, 8 KOs) could be the first to stop Argentine Matias Ezequiel Guenemil (10-3-1, 5 KOs), while Belarusian Dzmitry Asanau (7-0, 3 KOs) could come away with an inside win over Alexis Gabriel Camejo (8-3-2, 1 KO), also of Argentina.
Wilkins Mathieu (9-0, 6 KO) will have a chance to score points in his super middleweight fight with Facundo Nicolas Galovar (15-11-2, 9 KO).

Terence Crawford Reveals Key Advantage He Has Over Canelo
Published
4 days agoon
September 17, 2024Terence Crawford says his advantage in speed and reach could prove crucial after once again calling for a fight with Canelo Alvarez.
Crawford was ringside at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to witness Canelo defend his unified super middleweight titles, defeating Edgar Berlanga en route to a unanimous decision victory.
The 36-year-old, who won the WBA super welterweight title in August with a win over Israil Madrimov, would have to move up two weight classes to challenge the Mexican legend.
While he admitted he would give up size to face Alvarez, “Bud” insists it would be nothing up-to-date for him.
“I understand that Canelo is bigger than me,” Crawford said Sports TMZ.
“But I’m up for the challenge.
“His punching power and size are the only things I have to worry about, but who knows?
“When we get in the ring, we don’t know how I’ll handle his punching power and size.
“I’ve been fighting bigger guys my whole life, so I’m pretty familiar with this aspect.
“Canelo and I are the same height.
“I have a longer reach than Canelo, I’m faster than Canelo, but Canelo is bigger than me, stronger than me.
“We both give something, but we also gain something.”
When asked what the fight would be like, he added: “Of course I’ll beat him.
“I have no doubt that I will not beat anyone I step into the ring with.”
After the fight, the Omaha native went to the Sphere to watch UFC 306 and sat down next to Saudi Arabia’s boxing chief, Turki Alalshikh.
Alalshikh invited Alvarez to meet with Crawford before his fight with Berlanga, but the Mexican said he would not hold any talks until after the fight.
Canelo didn’t get drawn into discussion of a showdown with Crawford at the post-fight press conference, but given his apparent lack of interest in his highly anticipated clash with David Benavidez, a meeting with “Bud” could be his most lucrative option.

‘Dubois could fall asleep like Ngannou vs Joshua,’ says Hearn
Published

September 16, 2024Daniel Dubois cannot afford to make “one mistake” in his fight with Anthony Joshua or risk a knockout like Francis Ngannou, Eddie Hearn has warned.
Hearn and Frank Warren are joining forces to promote Joshua’s Saturday fight with IBF heavyweight champion Dubois at Wembley Stadium.
The 27-year-old rose from interim champion to the full belt shortly after stopping Filip Hrgovic in June, while “AJ” is on a three-fight stoppage streak.
Joshua demolished former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou over two rounds in March, five months after the 38-year-old defeated Tyson Fury, before suffering a controversial split decision defeat.
Hearn insists Dubois will suffer a similar fate to the Cameroonian if he makes any mistakes.
“People want to discredit Ngannou, but look what he did against Fury,” the matchroom chairman said Heavenly sports.
“I think he beat him. Anthony made it a mismatch and he needed a cushion.
“If Daniel Dubois wants to get hit with a right hand and wants to make sloppy mistakes, the same thing that happened to Ngannou will happen to him.
“If you get hit by Anthony Joshua right now, you’ll fall asleep.
“If Daniel Dubois comes out aggressively like he did against [Filip] Hrgovic, you’re going to get shot.
“And if he makes one mistake, it’ll be Daniel Dubois’ night.”
Much of the build-up to the fight centred around ‘Dynamite’ dropping the Watford man during a sparring session that took place seven years ago when both fighters were in Team GB.
Hearn, who has promoted the 34-year-old since he turned professional after winning gold at the 2012 Olympics, says the significance of the rumours is overstated.
“When they [Queensberry] signed Dubois, there was a narrative going around that Dubois had flattened AJ,” Hearn said. Professional boxing fans.
“Now all of a sudden we find out he rocked him with a left hook, AJ took a quick walk around the ring and then continued sparring.
“If you get seriously injured during sparring, you don’t continue with the spar.
“The fact that they were holding the pole tells you all you need to know about how badly he was injured.
“I’m sure he was pissed off during sparring, not just with Daniel Dubois but with all sorts of different people, because those are huge heavyweights and when you get hit right in the chin, that’s what happens.”

Eddie Hearn Criticizes Oscar De La Hoya Over Canelo’s Comments
Published
2 weeks agoon
September 6, 2024Eddie Hearn has questioned Oscar De La Hoya over his recent comments criticizing Canelo Alvarez’s upcoming fight with Edgar Berlanga.
Hearn and De La Hoya share a broadcast platform on DAZN, but there has been a bitter rivalry between the two for years, perhaps fuelled by Canelo’s decision to join the British promoter after leaving Golden Boy De La Hoya.
De La Hoya clashed with Alvarez on the eve of his May fight with Jaime Munguia, in which the Mexican confrontation with his former bossas tensions mounted at the press conference preceding fight week.
The 51-year-old fired another shot at the four-weight world champion during Instagram video on Thursday, claiming that his September 14 fight with Berlanga in Las Vegas was a rip-off for fans and confirmed that he will instead compete in UFC 306 at the Sphere.
“So we’re a week away from a boxing match no one asked for and a UFC event that everyone will be watching,” he said.
“Canelo fights Berlanga, it’s another snooze fest. They’re trying to sell a $90 PPV with a minimum of $500 in person.
“Right now, paying for another crappy Canelo who always beats a weaker opponent is just robbery.
“I’ll be attending the UFC at the Sphere instead.”
Hearn, who promotes Berlanga, believes the ‘Golden Boy’ would be better off promoting his own talents rather than focusing attention on a fighter he is no longer under contract with.
“He feels like he’s been a mess all along,” Hearn said Place to stomp.
“I think Oscar should exploit this platform to promote his players.
“If you talk about it and you get those numbers, why do you keep talking about Canelo Alvarez?
“Who you don’t represent, who you have nothing in common with.
“If you think about it, it really doesn’t make sense.
“You should be talking about Vergil Ortiz, you should be talking about William Zepeda, you should be talking about Zurdo Ramirez, and you’re just using your platform to talk about a guy that left you four or five years ago.
“And the fight is on DAZN, which is its broadcaster.”
