Bozy Ennis looks to Matchroom to keep Boots busy

Coach Bozy Ennis talks about his son Jaron “Boots” Ennis’ recent announcement of his signing with Matchroom, saying that Matchroom’s ability to host so many shows gives them great confidence that they will be able to keep Boots in energetic contention. This factor in particular is crucial for any player who wants to fulfill his promise, says the coach.

About Jaron signing a contract with Matchroom

“I think it was a great move that we made. We couldn’t sit around and wait too long, man. We were supposed to fight in March and then we were supposed to fight in June – we don’t really know when that will be because they kept moving the dates. And then the March one, I think we were supposed to be the main event, not Thurman and Tim Tszyu. This was supposed to be our place, this was supposed to be Boots and Barrios.

“Then all of a sudden we found out the IBF wanted to defend the title against Cody Crowley, so we said yes, we’ll take the fight. And I don’t know what happened next, I don’t know what they tried to do. It took a long time, so we just moved on, man.

Enabled if activity is the most critical thing for a player in his prime

“Activity is always the most critical thing. Stay busy, man. The busier you are, the smarter you will be. We argued about three times a year.

On why Matchroom is the right place for Boots right now

“Right now I think it’s the right place because they’re transferring players, man. They argue, it seems like every other week, they have a show. So that’s where we want to be… if you want to be great, you have to stay busy. You can’t take a break, even one fight a year or something like that. You won’t be anything if you fight once a year, you lose your timing and everything stops.

Sunny Edwards vs. Adrian Curiel fight in preparation

Based on last week’s news from Jake Donovan, ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reports super flyweight legend Juan Francisco Estrada and unified flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez finalize their fight on June 29 in Glendale. Copper too confirms An earlier reveal from EverythingBoxing said that a flyweight fight between former champions Sunlit Edwards and Adrien Curiel is “in the works” to serve as a collaborative feature film.

Edwards (20-1, 4 KO), who lost his IBF title last year in his fifth defense against Rodriguez, was preparing to face lightweight heavyweight champion and Matchroom stablemate Sivenathi Nontshinga. However, “The Special One” has a mandatory rematch with Christian Araneta on his agenda, so Edwards meets “Gatito” Curiel (24-5-1, 5 KO) instead.

Curiel had one of the biggest and most brutal upsets of 2023, beating Nontshinga in two rounds last November and looked to be able to repeat it in the February rematch, but suffered a surge in the 10th round and suffered his first-ever defeat in a break.

It was 108, but Curiel has a lot of experience at flyweight and Edwards was never the biggest at 112, so size shouldn’t matter.

While we’ve seen Edwards defeat high-pressure fighters like Felix Alvarado, there’s no telling how he’ll bounce back from such a tough loss. It should be captivating at least.

'People Jump to These Conclusions': Stephen Espinoza Discusses Canelo's Return to PBC

Stephen Espinoza takes a few minutes to talk to Fight Hub TV about several upcoming events coming to PBC, including Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia and Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora. The former Showtime executive, who apparently recently served in an advisory capacity for PBC, shares his opinion on the upcoming cards.

Espinoza on the Canelo vs. Munguia fight

“I think it’s the right time to fight Munguia because I think if you look at Munguia a year ago, two years ago, he was a brawler, he was rugged. And I’m not saying he didn’t have any ability, but he was very much a brawler and I think what we saw last year in particular was a lot of improvement in Munguia.

Based on reports of Canelo leaving PBC, only to strike a deal with them shortly thereafter

“It’s been a long time since Canelo took over his business. He was the captain of his own ship, maneuvering and steering his own career for quite some time… at some point, if he didn’t see what he liked or was curious about where the opportunities were, he absolutely had the right to go take a look around. So when everyone says it was an amicable split, it clearly was.

“If someone burned the bridge, they wouldn’t get back together. So at some point people come to these conclusions, they want to present certain narratives about what happened, and nine times out of ten they jump to conclusions and spread a narrative that is not true: “Oh, PBC has no money.” Canelo doesn’t want to associate with them. Well, let’s not dramatize it so much.

About Sebastian Fundor replacing Keith Thurman against Tim Tszyu

“There are probably people who say this is perhaps a bigger challenge for Tszyu. It’s definitely a different challenge. Despite everything Keith brings to the table, Fundora is a completely different fighter. So now you’re adjusting to the 10-day, 12-day notice period… It’s a fight that could have happened this year anyway, you just saw it a little earlier.

Canelo is talking about fighting Jaime Munguia, not fighting David Benavidez

Canelo is talking about fighting Jaime Munguia, not fighting David Benavidez

Following yesterday’s opening press conference for the May 4 fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia, Canelo spoke to members of the media about the respectful nature of the fight-starter, as well as responding to those critical of his decision not to face David Benavidez. Check out what he had to say on these topics below.

Canelo on his tranquil press conference with Munguia after the match started

“I always respect more a fighter (who) shows respect because then you realize you’re going to have a good fight because a fighter who says a lot of things comes into the fight scared. I like this type of fight because I know it will be a great fight.”

About how it felt to be on stage with De La Hoya again

“Honestly, I don’t like people like that. That’s it. But I feel comfortable because it’s my country, not his country. At the end of the day, I feel comfortable with myself, with everything I’ve done, because everything you see, we did it, no one else: Team Beltran, PBC and Canelo, that’s it.

About his supposed split from PBC just to come back for this fight

“I am very content to work with everyone. I’m content to work with Al Haymon and he’s content to work with me, and if something comes up or there’s something more critical to me, I’ll do it and I’ll be fine with Haymon, with everyone. I like working with everyone and I know that I am very disciplined, I work very demanding and that’s why I can do anything.

I am not continuing to fight David Benavidez

“He offered the amount he said, the amount I could make with anyone. So it’s nothing… he brings nothing to me. He only brings in 25 pounds more (on fight night). That’s it. But if there is a promoter, not him, because he has nothing to offer me, no money – then I am the only one. But if some promoter I’m working with comes to me and says, “I’m offering you $150, $200 million, I’m fighting tomorrow.” That’s the only reason I’m fighting him because the only thing he brings to the table is an extra 25 pounds.”

He will come back if he feels pressured to fight Benavidez

“I don’t have to fight anyone. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone because I remember what happened with Golovkin… so I don’t have to prove anything to anyone. So this fight with Jaime Munguia you have to respect because this fight is more critical than other fights.

“So it is what it is. And remember when you asked me about Golovkin and I’m fighting Golovkin, and then Callum Smith, and then Billy Joe Saunders, and then Caleb Plant, and then – so it’s never enough for you. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone anymore. I’ve done everything in my career.”
