Bill Haney watched his son get beaten over the weekend after losing a majority decision to Ryan Garcia, but he didn’t want to hide or give the haters any inkling that they would silence him. During an Instagram Live, the elder Haney reacted to the loss of his son.
“We go out when we win and we go out when we lose,” said a smiling Bill Haney. “We turn losses into lessons and we turn them into blessings. One thing I can say is that I have always said that I think Ryan Garcia is a good player. We had 3-3 points with him. I think he’s an even better TikToker or influence or whatever because he fooled you into thinking he was crazy. I knew he wasn’t crazy, so it was a good fight, but we have to take it calmly.
“I definitely want a rematch. Devin is still the WBC champion, he couldn’t lose the belt because Ryan was overweight, he missed the scale. But we wanted this fight to happen and, more importantly, when you’re the best fighter, the second best fighter, the third best fighter, you can work to get there, you can keep going back and back.
“But one thing is that my son is the best son in the world to me and I love him more than life itself. I will continue to fight for him, I will continue to be outside. I mean, we didn’t start this journey when we started boxing, so I’m going to fully support him. I’m not going anywhere, period.
“So whenever we get back in the gym, that’s what we’ll do. But we’re definitely going to keep our heads high, our chests out and our chins up, and that’s what it means to be Haney.”
